在留美申请的过程中,学校通常会要求2-3封(甚至4封)来自由申请者工作主管或任课老师/教授的推荐信函,其目的在藉由申请人外的第三者,就申请人的特质、能力和态度做评估,以作为学校审核申请者的一种参考,

在中国,推荐信曾经是留学申请过程中,最难由自己掌控的部份,也由于它是众多审核数据中少数能从第三者的客观角度评估申请者的文件,因此占有重要的地位。但是后来由于中国学生普遍采取自己撰写,老师签字(甚至完全替老师完成)的操作模式,来自中国的推荐信的'可信度已经大为下降。

但是不管怎么说,既然推荐信是必须的材料,我们还是需要加以重视。绝对不让这些琐事影响整体的申请过程。何况有些学校还是非常看重推荐信的!

最重要的是,我们首先必须了解对方院系的特色(为避免千篇 一律,不同的推荐信内容可强调不同的特色);各校对推荐信内容的不同要求也需要留意,有的学校看重学术研究潜力和学生的创造力,有的还有一些特殊要求,比如外语能力或者对研究领域的适应度,

这些都应该反映在你的推荐信中。

接下来分析自己的优缺点,在校成绩及工作表现,有无特殊经历可展现自己自己在此领域研究发展的潜力,或拥有那些特殊的能力(计算机、语文等),依此作为选老师写推荐信及提供其了解你的基础。并以明确具体的证据来支持证明自己的特殊能力和个人特质(例如:实验成果、研究计划、学术出版品、课外活动等)。

一般而言,推荐函需三封,限于对申请者有了解的人所写,讲师以上皆有资格为推荐人。最好三封各有其强调主题,以完全展现自己的特质及专才,并且能与读书计划相互呼应者为佳。写推荐函时,依个人特质、明确事迹或成就来表现自己,而不是许多模糊、空洞美丽的词句、且以诚信为原则,稍微夸大并无所谓,但严禁说谎及欺骗。

I take great pleasure in recommending Wang Yong, one of my favorite students, for admission into your distinguished graduate program.

Mr. Wang was admitted in 1986 at 14 years of age into the SPECIAL CLASS for the GIFTED YOUTHS, my university's unique program that caters to the intellectual needs of unusually talented Chinese youngsters. It was a rare privilege he earned with his nearly impeccable academic performance through the years of his elementary and secondary school.

殊不知这样的心态,耽误了多少“潜力股”的大好前程。推荐信在整个申请过程中,起着至关重要的作用,它是申请者自我营销战略里至关重要的部分,一篇过于平淡的推荐信,很可能成为你申请材料里的一处硬伤。

为避免如外交辞令般“空洞”的言论,本文将手把手教你如何准备大学申请时的'推荐信。

一、什么是“好”的推荐信?

一封好的推荐信,能够通过列举真实的,具有启发性的事例或者描述申请人在某方面具备的潜力和特长,与其余申请材料配合,进而支撑整个申请定位,

一、简历包含的基本信息

1.个人信息

个人简历需要包括的信息如下:姓名、性别、生日、永久居住地址、国籍、联系方式等。其中,申请人姓名要突出;所有信息注意与其他证明和材料保持一致,如果改过名字,要附相应说明材料。

2.教育背景

教育背景包括本科就读学校、学习年限、所学专业、攻读学位、成绩绩点、排名等。其中,GPA不错的话,尤其大三大四的专业成绩更好的话,就分别把综合GPA和专业GPA呈现出来,如果不是很占优势的话,可以暂时略过不写,因为学校已经要求申请人的成绩单了;如果申请人年级排名非常靠前,也可以列出排名。

这里的论文,不是说一定要发表知名刊物上的,如刊登在校内报纸上,或者自己写的未发表的优秀论文也可算上。项目经历可以说是简历里占据篇幅最大的一部分,不仅仅要写出项目名称,担当职位,更要表达申请人在项目中做出的贡献及成果。

实习经历要有实习单位名称、职位及实习期限,最好挑选和申请专业最相关的,不求多,一到两个即可;一个长久的实习远胜于几个一星期的实习。

4.活动经历

包括在学校参加的社团、校内的各种比赛,志愿者活动,体育活动等,简单陈列即可。

二、美国留学需要的材料

1. 中英文成绩单/在读证明/毕业证

中文件及英文翻译件均盖学校章,每份上面应包含具体课程的学分或学时,最好提供学校的评分体系(比如满分为100,合格分数为60)。每份(一份原件及翻译件)装入有学校字样的信封再封口盖章。

中文版高中毕业证复印件,英文版高中毕业证复印件,中英版的每份都要学校教务处盖章。

如学生尚未毕业,提供中英文在读证明即可。(范例如Attachment Chapter4-1)

2.英文考试成绩报告复印件(TOEFL/IELTS/SAT),在选好学校后,学生还需要与考试中心联系,向所选学校增送正式成绩报名。

3、推荐信。推荐信通常包括3封,一份是School Report,是你的学校给你出具的官方推荐,国外一般有Counselor即升学顾问来完成,国内可以找校长、年级组长、班主任来完成,或者你指定某个老师担任你的Counselor来完成;另外两封叫做Teacher Evaluation,是任课老师(一定要教你课)对你的评价和推荐。由于你高二的表现也至关重要,因此联系推荐人的事情也等到高二结束以后才可以开始办理。如果某些学生还有额外的推荐信也是可以的,但通常不能替代以上的School Report和Teacher Evaluation。

4、父母工作收入证明和银行存款证明。这些也一般在申请开始的时候办理即可。

5、TOEFL和SAT成绩单。一般TOEFL和SAT成绩单是要求由考试机构直接寄给学校。

问:推荐人的邮箱是填企业邮箱(学校或公司的)还是社会邮箱(新浪、**)?
