失物招领 lost and found

When I came to school this morning, I found an Oxford Dictionary, which is the sixth printing on the ground of school gate. I was afraid it would be demaged if nobody piched it up. And I stood there for a while seeing no one intended to pick it up. Therefore, I took it to my dormitory. The dictionary is brand new. It has a note in the middle of the book where I saw a poem----Saying Good-bye to Cambridge Again written in Chinese on the paper.

2:The Lost Sword-

The Lost Sword-

A man was crossing the river when he accidentally dropped his sword into the river. Immediately he made a mark on the boat where the sword had fallen. “This is where my sword fell off, I shall find my sword by this mark.” he said.

When the boat stopped moving, he went into the water to look for his sword at the place where he had marked the boat. Needless to say, it was useless. The boat had moved but the sword had not. He was unable to find the lost sword.

篇3:Lost美文

Lost

I'm warning you for the last time ─ stop talking!

The effects will last for the whole of his life.

It wasn't so good as last time.

They hugged each other like a couple of lost children

She lost it, just as I said she would.

By that time I had lost interest in the idea.

5:A Little Boy Lost

A Little Boy Lost

'Nought loves another as itself,

Nor venerates another so,

Nor is it possible to thought

A greater than itself to know.

'And, father, how can I love you

Or any of my brothers more?

I love you like the little bird

That picks up crumbs around the door.'

The Priest sat by and heard the child;

In trembling zeal he seized his hair,

He led him by his little coat,

And all admired his priestly care.

And standing on the altar high,

'Lo, what a fiend is here!' said he:

'One who sets reason up for judge

Of our most holy mystery.'

The weeping child could not be heard,

The weeping parents wept in vain:

They stripped him to his little shirt,

And bound him in an iron chain,

And burned him in a holy place

Where many had been burned before;

The weeping parents wept in vain.

Are such things done on Albion's shore?

篇6:A Little Girl Lost

A Little Girl Lost

Children of the future age,

Reading this indignant page,

Know that in a former time

Love, sweet love, was thought a crime.

In the age of gold,

Free from winter's cold,

Youth and maiden bright,

To the holy light,

Naked in the sunny beams delight.

Once a youthful pair,

Filled with softest care,

Met in garden bright

Where the holy light

Had just removed the curtains of the night.

There, in rising day,

On the grass they play;

Parents were afar,

Strangers came not near,

And the maiden soon forgot her fear.

Tired with kisses sweet,

They agree to meet

When the silent sleep

Waves o'er heaven's deep,

And the weary tired wanderers weep.

To her father white

Came the maiden bright;

But his loving look,

Like the holy book,

All her tender limbs with terror shook.

Ona, pale and weak,

To thy father speak!

O the trembling fear!

O the dismal care

That shakes the blossoms of my hoary hair!'

Lost and found

In a wooden cabin near Lake Walden, Henry David Thoreau lived alone. He thought: “there is no great value to be had by rubbing shoulders with the mass of humanity.” Though Thoreau never lived in a megacity, he captured precisely one of its characters --- urban life is largely about “shoulder rubbing”. I came to Beijing 3 years ago, like what the writer says, it’s a city where the masses of humanity gather, but my life here is more than just confronting the huge crowds, actually I’ve found it be of great value.

As a freshman in college, I arrived in Beijing, thrilled at the first sight of this dazzling city, but soon the gap between the capital and my small hometown gave me the culture shock. I lost the frequent contact with my old friends, same food was served in a different way, and the new taste wasn’t to my liking. In addition to my loss of appetite, I also lost my sense of direction, especially when I came to those sixteen–lane-wide crossroads. The sheer volume of the traffic, the density of the pedestrians, drove home to me the idea of a modern metropolis. Like, the distance from my dormitory to the nearest Wall-Mart, back in my small hometown, that would cover the full length of the entire business district. And I am not proud to admit that I was disoriented.

Now three years have passed as the city keeps on growing. Philosopher Herbert Spencer says “Life is the continuous adjustment of internal relations to external relations”, so I gradually adapted myself to get along and grow together with the city. There is no fear of getting lost, since many city maps are displayed in public, and I feel free to ask for help. Once I even run into this old man who not only pointed out the way for me, but also briefed me the interesting history of the place that I was looking for. What is particularly worth mentioning is that when the summer Olympics was held in Beijing, I got the chance to be a volunteer. Working with foreign delegations, my job involves being a personal assistant and tour guide plus doing interpretation. My shoulders were not only “rubbed” but heavily loaded with responsibility. Yet when people told me the genuine “thank you”, their smiling faces and the joy of *** new friends led me to find a valuable thing here---a strong sense of achievement. Besides, wearing the blue T-shirt, seeing it everywhere within the city, I knew I was a member of the one hundred thousand volunteers, an intrinsic part of the city.

Whether it’s in the tranquility of countryside or the hustle and bustle of a modern city, people come and leave, always seeking for a better life. I’ve fall in love with the city because of its vitality and the hospitality of its people. And I am happily surprised by the change that this city has brought to my life.

15:English signs in Beijing lost in tra

English signs in Beijing lost in translation

Shelly Kraicer, a Canadian who works in Beijing as a film critic, has found many funny but mistranslated signs throughout the Chinese capital, and urges improvement to save the city's “face.”

On a recent subway ride, he noticed a grammatically incorrect sentence printed on all the gripes in his compartment -- “For is your convenient travel, please go by subway.”

It doesn't take much effort to find similar ridiculous signs inBeijing's shopping centers, hotels, parks, buses, subway, and even the airport. Hotels misuse “scatter” for “evacuate” in their emergency information signs. Tobacco shop billboards say they sell “smoke,” instead of cigarettes.

“There has been great improvement since Beijing put into practice the use of English signs,” said Mr. Kraicer, who began to work in Beijing three years ago. “But careless signs may just makethings worse.”

Beijing started using English signs in late 1980s for the 11th Asian Games in 1990. “Chinese-styled English” signs, however, are prevalent in the country, confusing and misleading foreigners.

To prepare for an excellent Olympic Games in , the host city has embarked on a campaign to improve its English signs.

The Beijing Speaks to the World Committee, a non-governmental organization that teaches common residents basic English, was set up in , which is supported by an advisers' panel of 23 Chineseand foreign experts of English.

Like many other countries, China has been working to set standards for bilingual signs, said Chen Lin, professor of English with Beijing Foreign Studies University and chairman of the panel.

Chen prefers using “Pinyin,” the Chinese phonetic symbols, to English translations for most Chinese place-names, considering it more convenient for foreigners in Beijing to communicate with local people, and for Chinese postmen to deliver international mail.

“But translating names according to their traditional meanings is also necessary, just as we call the imperial park located in northwest Beijing 'Summer Palace' but not 'Yihe Yuan' in Pinyin,” Chen said.

The Beijing Speaks to the World Committee has collected nearly a hundred incorrect English signs from around the city, and more Beijing citizens are expected to take part in this campaign to clear out careless English signs.

《Lost civilizations》

其中有一张图片的后面并没有题目,上面写了“Please sing a song for us.”。 她说:“Today is my friend’s birthday, so I want to say to her: ‘happy birthday!’当时全班爆发了一片掌声,见此情景,我立刻说:“Please send my best wishes to your friend, and say happy birthday to her!”。

讨论的话题是“Is it useful for people to study things from the past? Why or why not?”

篇17: You lost me的散文

You lost me的散文
