记得小时候外出时，在凹凸不平的马路上乘坐三轮车，三轮车载客不规范，颠簸得让人的肠子都快抖出来了。交通堵塞更是家常便饭，带来了许多安全隐患，给旅客的出行造成了极大的不便。而如今的永定和昔日相比，真是旧颜换新貌。宽阔平坦而整洁的公路四通八达，一排排郁郁葱葱的树木挺立路旁，引来了更多的小鸟在这里“安居”了；车辆、行人熙熙攘攘，南来北往，井然有序。只要在公交车站台稍等一小会，便利快捷的公交车就迎面开来了。公交车也明码标价。从此，再也听不到乘客和售票员为了一元钱而争吵不休的声音。这一切，让我惊叹家乡变化真大呀！

永定的环境卫生也得到了改观。永定人的母亲河——永定河，原来浑浊的河面上从上游不时漂来一些白色垃圾，而且臭气熏天，让周边的居民叫苦不迭。现在，随着人们生活质量不断地提升，更多的人意识到环境保护对人类生存的重要性，他们自觉地携起手来共同保护永定河。如今，永定河河水清澈见底，在岸上，还会偶尔看见几条小鱼在水中快活地嬉戏着，有时几只爱凑热闹的小虾也会游过来一同玩耍。永定河就象是一个地下森林宝库，无数的小动物在它的怀抱中无忧无虑地生活着。

永定也被称为“土楼之乡”。走进土楼，那破损的瓦片、木柱，增添了这位历史“老人”的沧桑感。以前土楼不被重视，使得这宝贵的文化遗产被遗忘，甚至遭到人为的破坏。现在永定土楼已经申报了“世界文化遗产”。永定人已经意识到土楼等旅游资源的存在，政府出台的一系列政策更帮助了永定人们搞活经济、文化建设，让永定走向脱贫致富奔小康的光明大道。
