My dear Mr。 and Misses, my fellows schoolmates,

Good morning! As you know and see, it is a sunny bump harvest season。 In the city, in our school campus, everywhere is surrounded with roses which we together planted 4 years ago。 Today may these roses and our friendship as well be together and comfort our excited hearts!

It was four years ago that everyone of us came from every part of China and formed a new collective。 As we are young, it’s very easy for us to communicate。 It was in the past four years that we were ambitious。 It was in the past four years that we worried。 It was in the past four years that we were content。 It was in the past four years that we were vexed。 It was in the past four years that we were friendly and lonely 。。。 and it was in the past fours that we studied, lived and respected each other with genuine and with our ambitions。 Nothing in the world is more significant than we miss all of these。

We miss you─teachers who are tireless in teaching; we will keep your gestures and your white hairs in our hearts deeply; we will miss the quietness with the lights at night in the classroom; we will miss the race and exercise on the playground; we will miss even the crowds in the dining hall and the quarrel on the beds; we will still miss every green piece and every piece of waste paper flying like flakes in the air 。。。 However, today we will leave nothing but the first rose with our Alma Mater and our teachers which is entrusted with our love and respect。

4 years seems very long but 4 years seems very short。 From now on, we all will go into the society。 The society is broad and wide for us。 We will shoulder heavy responsibilities; we will work diligently; and we will expect to be informed of good news from one another。 Now, I beg you all to cherish the occasion; to remember the names, the status, appearance and the character of the person around you。 Now let’s be hand in hand together; let’s present the rose to each other。 May the rose carry our appreciation and blessing! We are very closely linked no matter what the world may be。 May the fresh rose in our hands keep its fragrants!

Thank you all again!

他只不过是 (用no more than)一个失败者。

itake with me the memory of friday afternoon acm happy hours, known not for kegs of beer, but rather bowls of rainbow sherbet punch. over the several years that i attended these happy hours they enjoyed varying degrees of popularity, often proportional to the quality and quantity of the accompanying refreshments - but there was always the rainbow sherbert punch.

i take with me memories of purple parking permits, the west campus shuttle, checking my pendaflex, over-due library books, trying to print from cec, lunches on delmar, friends who slept in their offices, miniature golf in lopata hall, the greenway talk, division iii basketball, and trying to convince dean russel that yet another engineering school rule should be changed.

finally, i would like to conclude, not with a memory, but with some advice. what would a graduation speech be without a little advice, right? anyway, this advice comes in the form of a verse delivered to the 1977 graduating class of lake forest college by theodore seuss geisel, better known to the world as dr. seuss - here's how it goes:

my uncle ordered popovers from the restaurant's bill of fare. and when they were served, he regarded them with a penetrating stare . . . then he spoke great words of wisdom as he sat there on that chair: “to eat these things,” said my uncle, “you must excercise great care. you may swallow down what's solid . . . but . . . you must spit out the air!”

and . . . as you partake of the world's bill of fare, that's darned good advice to follow. do a lot of spitting out the hot air. and be careful what you swallow.

Thank you. Thank you.

Good morning! Good morning, Class of ! You look fabulous!

Though many of you may…maybe you feel a little bit tired?

Last night, some of you were out to dinner with family. Some of you were up late packing. And some of you went out with classmates and friends.

And this is Penn, I have to ask: How many of you managed to do all three?

Okay, I thought so! But did anyone here last night find time to turn on the TV…maybe turn it on…to HBO?

Are you ready? Are you ready? It’s time for a special edition of Game of Thrones!

Graduates: All of you today sit on either side of a great divide.

To my right: Southern Alliance! Among you are several Great Houses.

Arrayed on the field are members of House Engineering! House Nursing! House Wharton! Houses…Houses Medicine to Dental; Law to…Law to Design; SP2 to Education; and Annenberg to Vet! All…all of you to my right form the Southern Alliance!

Now, to my left: The Northern Alliance! Your Great…your Great Houses may be fewer…your Great Houses may be fewer, but man, are they big?

Arrayed on the field, as you can see, are the members…many members of House College! And House Arts and Sciences! All of you…all of you to my left form the Northern Alliance.

We have two sides, and spoiler alert: we’re going to do battle. But instead of a battle with spears, this will be a Battle of Cheers.

Whoops! Who left a Starbucks cup here? Not supposed to be here! Oh well, oh well…. We’ll figure that out later.

I’m…I’m going to call on each of your Alliances in turn. When I do, you need to make…I hate to ask, I know how hard it is, but you need to make the most noise you can. The side that cheers the loudest wins! Okay? Ready?

Okay, let’s hear it from the Southern Alliance!

Impressive! Impressive! Okay, now let’s hear it from the Northern Alliance! Alright! Also …also impressive!

Both sides gave it your very best shot. Now it falls to me….

But I will not call a winner. Instead, instead, I ask you to consider this a window into the human heart.

Listen up. Here we are, proud members of the Penn community – this beloved community. Yet, when called upon, how readily we divide to do battle for our side.

Game of Thrones became a global phenomenon for many reasons. We obsess over the characters. We love the dragons and the drama. But its deepest attraction is allegorical.

In the walls of ice, in the thrones of iron, we see a mirror for our times.

We recognize our own world, where too many live for their tribe alone. Where too often, we listen only to those who think, look, and believe as we do.

Where the game seems rigged against open and free exploration. We hear too few dissenting voices, and we consider too few conflicting views. But remember: None of this is inevitable.

We can glorify our own tribe to the exclusion of others. We can build up our walls, and we can cast down those who are different.

Or we can better use the strength in our hearts and the power in our hands.

Our many identities and beliefs: We make these our threads. Our diverse backgrounds and goals: They become our loom.

From this world of differences, we can weave a tapestry of communities.

Weaving…yeah…weaving is hard work, especially when we interlace many into one. Our identities may clash. Our beliefs diverge. We disagree over where we want to go. We argue about the best way to get there.

But when – together – we embrace the challenge, the cloth of human understanding grows more resilient. We craft something stronger by far…by far than iron thrones and walls of ice.

As many of you may know, I am a first-generation college graduate – I’m proud of it. My family had very little money. We lived in a small town.

And try as I might to fit in, I always felt like an outsider and often was treated as one. My father was an immigrant, and the only person around who spoke with a strong foreign accent. In elementary school, I was the only Jewish girl.

And…and one day – I remember this vividly – in fifth grade, I learned just how easily false stereotypes about minorities can arise.

That’s when another blond-haired, blue-eyed girl moved into my class. My best friend Diane took one look, turned to me, and said, “Oh! She must be Jewish, too!”

My hometown may not have understood or celebrated diversity, but it treated me and my family respectfully.

I never took that for granted given my father’s escape from Nazi Germany. My parents even joined with others in neighboring towns to create the first synagogue.

Wonderfully…wonderfully…wonderfully dedicated and caring teachers helped prepare me for college. And I couldn’t wait to go.

when I finally arrived on campus, I was in for a surprise. In fact, I was stunned. I had never before in my life felt poor. As a scholarship student, suddenly, I was surrounded by people who were so astoundingly rich! I was also fascinated by this and other differences – different faiths, politics, ethnicities, and culture.

And sure, at times it was uncomfortable. There were many moments I just wanted to turn around and go back home to my mother’s warm embrace – and also her great home cooking!

And like every one of you…every one of you, I made the best, most important choice of my life: I would pick up the threads of differences to weave myself a new community.

This would become my cause, my mission, my identity. I had found my purpose, rooted in beloved community.

I was inspired by the work of Dr. Martin Luther King. He called upon us all to embrace inclusion, love, and justice. He preached the soul force of nonviolent protest.

He warned against the perils of tribalism, of clinging to the familiar and holding sacred the status quo.

King famously addressed his…go ahead…he famously addressed his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” not to his jailers, but to his “fellow clergymen.”

He challenged them to reject the status quo. In King’s words, we find the essence of beloved community, recognizing that: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”

We Are The World ,We Are The Future.

Someone said “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”. I don’t know who wrote these words, but I’ve always liked them as a reminder that the future can be anything we want it to be. We are all in the position of the farmers. If we plant a good seed ,we reap a good harvest. If we plant nothing at all, we harvest nothing at all.

We are young. “How to spend the youth?” It is a meaningful question. To answer it, first I have to ask “what do you understand by the word youth?” Youth is not a time of life, it’s a state of mind. It’s not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips or supple knees. It’s the matter of the will. It’s the freshness of the deep spring of life.

We all want the future to be better than the past. But the future can go better itself. Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened. From the past, we’ve learnt that the life is tough, but we are tougher. We’ve learnt that we can’t choose how we feel, but we can choose what about it. Failure doesn’t mean you don’t have it, it does mean you should do it in a different way. Failure doesn’t mean you should give up, it does mean you must try harder.

As what I said at the beginning, “we are reading the first verse of the first chapter of a book, whose pages are infinite”. The past has gone. Nothing we do will change it. But the future is in front of us. Believe that what we give to the world, the world will give to us. And from today on, let’s be the owners of ourselves, and speak out “We are the world, we are the future.”

As we know, we would feel lonely if we didn't even have a friend. But it doesn't mean we could depend on our friends all the time. There is a

famous motto saying that “A friend is like a quilt with cotton wadding, but the real thing that keeps you warm is your own temperature.” It is really true. We have to work hard together with our friends, encourage each other and help each other. When we receive love and friendship, we should repay as much as we can.

Finally, let's pray together now that one day, all of us could find the person we want to find, and could enjoy a real beautiful friendship in our lives. Let's pray the flower of friendship be-tween our friends and us would always bloom brightly in our heart

If our bodies are not strong, our spirit to do things will certainly be quite dull. And at the same time, we are lack of energy (ies) to study. Diseases will only attack the weak, but not the strong. Why are our bodies not strong? Because we do not pay attention to exercise. For this reason, ()we students must often take different kinds (sorts) of exercise in the gym.

Exercise helps us (to) strengthen our bodies and avoid disease. It also teaches us cooperation, for most exercise is played by team.

Beauty usually refers to what appeals to the eye. A nice and well built girl is regarded as beautiful. A bunch of vigorous flowers are also considered as beautiful. A splendid waterfall coming down from a mountain is as well looked on as beautiful.

Beauty also refers to what appeals to the mind. The virtue of the Chinese nation-industry and bravery are taken as beautiful, because it helped to produce such a magnificent culture in the world.() Einstein's theory of relativity is also perceived as beautiful, for it explains many natural phenomena so perfectly.

Beauty is around us. If you keep an eye or pay some attention, it is never difficult to find something beautiful somewhere about you. Wonderful natural spots, historical relics, fine arts, splendid buildings, and kind people are just a few inches away.

My Favorite Color

Blue has always been my favorite color, and I think it will always continue to be so.

I have several reasons for liking this color best. First, it is a very soothing color and makes people happy. How do people feel when they wake up to day when the sky is a dirty grey? Sad and gloomy. But when the sky is a deep blue, good cheer and joy enters our hearts.

Another reason why I am most partial to blue is that it is the color of oceans and rivers and lakes on a sunny day. Whenever I go swimming, I feel as though I were reborn.

In my estimation, blue is a very refined a noble color. I have several suits of clothes of different colors, but somehow blue seems to be most becoming to me. At the same time, all my friends say that I tend to look slim and taller whenever I’m dressed in blue.

I have also heard that in English, the term “true blue” means to be faithful. As I have a great respect for the quality of faithfulness, this is one more reason for my liking blue so much.

gloomy a.

partial a.

refined a.

becoming a.合适的

The Generation Gap

I remember that when I was in my teens, I used to rebel at many of the “do’s” and “don’ts” my parents used to dictate to me. For example, when I kept on playing jazz records on the record player, my father used to condemn such music as sheer noise and replace them with disks of classical music that I always considered extremely dull.

My mom and dad were also very particular about the friends I went out with, always quoting the maxim the “one rotten apple could ruin a whole barrel of apples.” When I insisted that I sleep with my pet dog Peppy, they immediately said NO because they thought that I would be bitten by fleas.

By the time John pulled into the little town, every hotel room was taken. “You've got to have a room somewhere.” he pleaded. “Or just a bed--I don't care where.”

“Well, I do have a double room with one occupant,” admitted the manager,“ and he might be glad to split the cost. But to tell you the truth, he snores so loudly that people in adjoining rooms have complained in the past. I'm not sure it'd be worth it to you.”

“No problem,” the tired traveler assured him. “I'll take it.”

The next morning, John came down to breakfast bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. When asked about how he slept, he replied, “Never better.”

The manager was impressed. “No problem with the other guy snoring, then?”

“Nope. I shut him up in no time.”

“How'd you manage that?”

“He was already in bed, snoring away, when I came in the room,” John said. “I went over, gave him a kiss on the cheek, said, 'Goodnight, beautiful.' With that he sat up all night watching me.

A man who lived in a block of apartments thought it was raining and put his head out the window to check. As he did so a glass eye fell into his hand.

He looked up to see where it came from in time to see a young woman looking down.

”Is this yours?“ he asked.

She said, ”Yes, could you bring it up?“ and the man agreed.

On arrival she was profuse in her thanks and offered the man a drink. As she was very attractive he agreed. Shortly afterwards she said, ”I'm about to have dinner. There's plenty. Would you like to join me?“

He readily accepted her offer and both enjoyed a lovely meal. As the evening was drawing to a close the lady said, ”I've had a marvelous evening. Would you like to stay the night?“

The man hesitated then said, ”Do you act like this with every man you meet?“

”No,“ she replied, ”Only those who catch my eye."

Though people today still use many cars, I believe bicycles will be much more popular in the future.
