It is said that the custom of Spring Festival started in when people offered sacrifice to ancestors in the last month of Chinese lunar calendar. At that time, people prepared the sacrifice by doing thorough cleaning, having bathes and so on. Later, people began to worship different deities as well on that day. It is the time that almost all the farm works were done and people have free time. The sacrificing time changed according to the farming schedule and was not fixed until the Han Dynasty (202BC-220AD). The customs of worshipping deities and ancestors remains even though the ceremonies are not as grand as before. It is also the time that spring is coming, so people held all kinds of ceremonies to welcome it.

There are many legends about Spring Festival in Chinese culture. In folk culture, it is also called “guonian” (meaning “passing a year”). It is said that the “nian” (year) was a strong monster which was fierce and cruel and ate one kind of animal including human being a day. Human beings were scared about it and had to hide on the evening when the “nian” came out. Later, people found that “nian” was very scared about the red color and fireworks. So after that, people use red color and fireworks or firecrackers to drive away “nian”. As a result, the custom of using red color and setting off fireworks remains.

Preparing the New Year starts 7 days before the New Year’s Eve. According to Chinese lunar calendar, people start to clean the house on Dec. 24, butcher on Dec. 26th and so on. People have certain things to do on each day. These activities will end Jan. 15th of the lunar calendar.

The commenting ones, however, usually work less, and even if they want to work sometimes, they simply are not capable enough. They are no better than anyone, but show admiration to nobody either. They blame either the heaven, or the earth, but never themselves. They dare not to take any risks, but they are also afraid of any hard work. They are gossip-mongers, making stories and spreading rumors, making you feel annoyed and upset. It's not because that you have hurt them, or disturbed them, or hindered them, but because you are working. If only you are working, he is there commenting. Everything is hard at the beginning. Capable people are usually marching ahead of others and may not be properly understood, hence causing various kinds of comments, more criticism but less support;Capable people can easily succeed, thus causing both admiration and comments, more jealousy but less appreciation (only their good luck is recognized);Capable people can be sought for help and attract the attention of the society, thus causing a lot of comments, more complaints but less gratitude (even though they didn't ask anyone for help, if only they were not able to help others in a satisfactory way, it's already their fault);Capable people can also suffer setbacks (some even experience ups and downs many times)， experiencing fully the warmth and coldness of the human world, more hurts but less helps.

Let us now think of the reasons for using dead animals. People often use animals for food, make-up, medicine and especially for the clothes. Fur coats are definitely a luxury. Yes, they are warm but really they are mostly a symbol of wealth. Do you know how much a mink coat cost?

A report said in an open letter published recently, a Dutch animal-rights group has asked their much-loved Queen to stop wearing fur. The Group pointed out that making clothing from fur represents cruelty to animals. “ Fur belongs to animals, not to human beings.”

Nowadays a lot of greedy people hunt and kill wild animals and birds, so as to make money by selling their hides at high prices. This kind of killing should be stopped and seriously punished. If we don't take actions to protect the wild animals and birds, they will soon disappear from the globe. Man will one day find himself a very lonely creature on earth indeed.

Until such a day, when we finally realized that we no longer have these friends or neighbors, what are we human beings going to say? Sorry? No, it is too late to say sorry to them.
