During the Warring States Period, King Xuan of the State of Qi loved to listen to the yu (an ancient wind instrument), especially in the ensemble.
In the palace, there was a band of fully 300 yu players. King Xuan of Qi often ordered this band to play for him.
A man named Nan Guo could not play the yu. But when he learned of King Xuan's hobby, he volunteered his service and bragged about how well he could play. He asked for permission to play for the king with other players. King Xuan was very glad to hear this and granted his request.
Thereupon, in each performance he would mingle with others, put on an act, play at random, and swindled the same amount of remuneration as paid to others. In this way, he drifted along till King Xuan of Qi died.
After King Xuan of Qi died, King Min succeeded to the throne.
Under his father's influence, King Min also loved to listen to the yu. The only difference was that he liked to listen to solos, not ensembles. King Min proclaimed that the players must perform one by one for him.
When Nan Guo heard of this, he was afraid. He knew he could not drift along any longer, so he sneaked away that very night.

Lv Meng (lǚ méng 吕蒙) was a general of Wu during the Three Kingdoms Period (三国时代,220-280AD).
He was born in such a poor family that he did not get any chance to go to the school when he was a child.
However, there was still less time for reading when he served in the army after he grew up.
Once the king of Wu summoned Lv Meng and said to him, “Since you are now a general in power, you had better read some books to widen your horizon.”
Lv Meng answered, “I am so busy with military affairs that I am afraid I have little time to read.”
The King said, “Are you busier than I am? Even I often find time to read books on the art of war and gain much benefit from them. To read more about the experience left by ourancestors will make you progress.”
Lv Meng then did according to what the king said. He concentrated himself on reading history and military writings.
On day, Military Governor Lu Su visited Lv Meng and was surprised to find that Lv Meng had become very knowledgeable.
Lu Su, who held Lv Meng in contempt earlier, said, “I did not expect that you would know so much besides fighting! You are not the one you used to be!”
Lv Meng replied, “You should look at a person with new eyes even only after a three days'separation.”
Today, when a person does something that causes others to see him differently, we can say that people “look at him with new eyes.”

One child said:
“As is known to all, things far away look smaller and things nearer look bigger. When the sun rises, it is as big as the canopy on a carnage; at noon it is only as big as a plate or a dish. Doesn't this show that when the sun rises, it is nearer to us?”
The other child said:
“We all know that things nearby make us feel hot, and things far away make us feel cool. When the sun comes out, the air is clear and clean; at noon it is as hot as putting the hand in hot water. Doesn't this show that the sun is nearer to us at noon?”

This is a very well-known story that teaches us a lot about using our time wisely.

“it's the grasshopper again!”they said.“he's always playing that violin of his. he never seems to do any work.”
the grasshopper stopped when he saw the ants.“why are you working on such a beautiful day?”he asked.“don't you feel the gaiety of spring? why aren't you dancing and singing while i play my violin?”
“we must collect food now,”said the queen of ants.“if we don't, what will we do when winter comes?”
“oh, winter's a long way off,”said the grasshopper.“you take life much too seriously.”
“but you must work today if you want to eat tomorrow,”said the little ant.“you can play your violin after you have finished working,”said another as the ants scurried busily about.
the grasshopper didn't wish to heed their advice,“go on with your work, my little friends,”he said.“i'm going to dance in the meadow in the sun!”and so the grasshopper left the busy ants and went on his way, singing.
the spring soon passed and the warm days of summer came. all day long the grasshopper played his violin as he sat in the sun or just slept on a blade of grass. soon summer was over.
one morning, the grasshopper woke up and was surprised to see that snow had fallen during the night. he shivered and looked for a great leaf for food. but although he searched and searched he could not find a thing. the long winter had come.

the grasshopper wandered around looking for a place to keep warm but there was no such place.“how silly i was not to listen to the ants. while i am dying of cold and hunger they are sitting in their warm nest with plenty to eat.”

they looked after the grasshopper until he felt better and spring had returned again. never did the grasshopper forget the lesson he had been taught.

Jiang Yan was very talented in the area of literature. Both his poems and his essays were outstanding, and he was known by nearly all the scholars of his time.
Jiang Yan once had a dream that a man came to him and said, “My name is Guo Pu. One of my pens has been here with your for several years. Please give it back to me now.”
In his pocket, Jiang Yan found a multi-colored pen, which he returned to Guo Po.
As Jiang Yan grew older, the poems and essays that he wrote were not as good as those he had written when he was younger.
Everyone said that when Jiang Yan gave away his multi-colored pen, he used up the last of his talent.

英文中与“江郎才尽”意义相近的表达是“The well of inspiration has dried up.” 或者“My creative well has dried up.”
(1)What to do when your inspiration has dried up?(当你江郎才尽的时候,该怎么办呢?)
(2)We may feel that we have nothing fresh or original to contribute, as though the well of inspiration has dried up.(我们可能会觉得没有任何新鲜的创意才思,就像是江郎才尽了。)
(3)Quickly we jump to fear or worry, afraid that our creative will surely dry up.(很快的我们就会变得害怕担忧,担心自己会江郎才尽。)
