Dear _,
An experienced electronic engineer trained in China's major cradle of technological talents, I am submitting this document in support of my application for acceptance into your graduate program. With more than eight years of higher learning and quality research behind me, I now stand ready to pursue advanced studies and scale grander heights in my career.
Presently, I work at a leading Beijing-based center of telecommunications research and development, jointly run by Canada's Northern Telecom Ltd., one of the world's foremost IT enterprises, and the Beijing University of Yanjiu, a major higher-learning institution in IT technologies in China. Engaged in cutting-edge research and development at this center, I have accumulated a lot of advanced knowledge and expertise in IT technologies in a relatively short time.
I obtained this coveted position at such a respected international establishment on the strength of my research experience at the North China Institute of Computing Technologies, the country's oldest research organization in computer science. Exercising my diligence and creativity, I specialized in automation research and development in this institute, which not only gave me the opportunity to make full use of what I had learned at the university but also spurred me to constantly improve myself. I taught myself Computer Control Technology, Contemporary Control Theory, Electrical control Technology and Process Control & Automation Device, among other subjects.
Because of my strong skills in both hardware and software, I was appointed in 1995 the leader of a team to design the computer control system “Distributed Control System (DCS)”. Under my effective leadership, the team completed design of the system structure, development of the modules, and programming of the software, and system debugging all in less than one year. A real-time computer control system, it can be combined with 2048 channels. For this project, I independently designed the kernels-CPU module, two other modules and the I/O interface software. The system is now a leading product in China's automation industry.
My research successes were built upon my solid undergraduate training at Tsinghua University, widely considered China's best engineering school. Between 1989 and 1994, I studied at Tsinghua as a major of electronic engineering, concentrating on basic courses as well as courses of my major. These courses solidly grounded me in theories of telecommunications and endowed me with all-round expertise in both software and hardware engineering. At the time of my graduation, my overall GPA ranked me among the top 10% of about 200 students in my grade.
Taking advantage of Tsinghua's emphasis on hands-on experience, I did a lot of lab work in my undergraduate studies. In my third year, I joined the university's Laboratory of Information Systems. In the lab I successfully designed the “2Mb/s PCM Digital Interface (32 frames)” used in the analogue PBX (Private Branch Exchange). In 1993, I independently designed a “Speech Signal Processing Card” used in the SUN SPARC station. This successful development of this card ended the situation in which the SUN SPARC station could not be used for speech processing and other multimedia applications. In the course of these projects, I became versed in hardware structure of the RISC computer, UNIX operating system and programming. All this laid a firm foundation for my career advancement.
My academic standing was so strong that I was offered acceptance into Tsinghua's graduate school without the normally mandatory admission exams. That was a privilege available to only the very best of each crop of graduating students. But I declined the offer, figuring that I should gain challenging research experience behind me, I think the time has come for me to not only undertake graduate studies but also undertake graduate studies in a quality program in the United States.
Ideally, I would like to enter into a Master's program that would lead me into Ph. D. studies later on. In such a program, I would like to focus my studies on one or a combination of the following areas: Control Systems, Communications Engineering, Digital Signal and Image Processing, or Microcomputer Applications. I will bring to the program a professional background significantly enrich my knowledge, enhance my expertise, and sharpen my research skills. If you accept me, you should find, some years down the road, that I will be a leading scientist in China's efforts to develop its IT industries.
Yours sincerely,
xuexila

Dear _,
Finance is the lifeline of modern economy and if there is no finance globalization, there is no economy globalization. Finance globalization promoted to enlarge international finance market; multinational trade species and the scale, to make finance innovative appeared, strengthen international capital function and to play an important role on the resource distribution in the world. With the communication among nations increase and the technology information development, the development of finance tends to globalization. Finance globalization is the motor of economy globalization, finance and economy was one of the important factors for holding for the whole world, information, technology and other industry were developed on the base of finance and economy.
The economy strength of a nation decided its place in the world. In the future, the world finance market would present themselves with different styles; non-essential economy began to play an important role in the world, the development of information industry made finance market develop more quickly. Moreover, finance influenced largely on the daily life of common people and made common people more concern the development tendency of finance then before and made out the relevant reaction according to getting information from all aspects, for example, the change of inflation, stock and exchange rate etc. All that influenced common peoples (people’s) lives and economical programs.
I began to realize that finance in fact was the different (difference) between microcosmic and microeconomic and macroeconomic knowledge through my learning in the university, and it owned strong practice and was not abstract knowledge. For instance, currency banking, investment and international finance etc. all offered many cases and made me realize the meaning of finance. Then I knew that finance covered a wider scope and researcher needed strong academic background and ability on macro-control by practices and analysis of cases. For example, I acted as a leader of group, each group represents an enterprise and discussed whether open new produces instead of old produces, I told every member to answer for a part and consult materials, then we talked about them together and found some materials had superposition and didn’t have close logic, even each member had different emphasis and expressions which made me know cooperation was very important in a enterprise. So I held the second meeting to talk about these questions. I asked all members to look for materials relevant to this case respectively and then analyzed them together. During the process, we thought about them deeply and fully, finally we got a best scheme.
Through this experiment, I became lover finance major than before, because it not only brought me model and data but also interest on (in) connecting knowledge with practices to make data and model vivid. Even each new idea produced different result. Finance is not a material concept but is social science, which contains a wider scope. I am very glad to involving discovering unknown things in this field. Just like discussion, many members’ thoughts inspired me and we got satisfied results. Finance is a social science which embodied human being is the essential. We could cultivate our academic taste during the learning symposia and academic discussion process. In the practices we could cultivate intuition added combination with academic background and mathematic theory; we could understand finance better.
So I pay attention to connect theory and practices more than before, in my spare time I took part in social practices, for example I visited “international finance” of newspaper office and “Shanghai stock exchange”, besides I took part in planning for the “second finance year meeting” in Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. During the process, I met many finance people and got a chance for visiting Holland bank. Moreover I often consulted lots of finance journals and website materials etc. In order to connect theory with practices better, I carried on special researches on these problems.
For example, I began to research “RMB Globalization problem” and its aim was to review substantial economy and non-substantial economy how to influence currency international globalization from demonstration and theory angle to help us understand the experiences and lessons happened on the process of each national currency globalization and offered some feasible references for RMB international globalization. I connected the fact of our national economy development, especially, the base fact of RMB used by some nations around China, through researching the general rule of currency internationalization globalization, to discuss the problem on RMB international globalization process.
First, I reviewed the main countries’ currency globalization process in the world, and found that currency globalization must have two basic conditions. The first was rich economy strength; the second was to keep valuta long stabilization. Second, I pointed out RMB globalization was the necessity choice of our national economy persisting development and the benefit of currency globalization according to the impersonality requirement of economical globalization development, and RMB globalization would more enlarge the degree for opening to foreign.
At the same time I thought that stable, quickly developmental national economy and larger economical scope made RMB of our country globalization strengthens and higher ability against risk, the last part emphasized the process of RMB globalization and the research on keeping away from risk. The process of RMB internationalization was: first implement RMB regional strategy on the basis of East Asia currency cooperation and East Asian free trade, then implement RMB globalization stratagem under many perfect factors influence.
But during this process, it was very difficult for me to research non-substantiality economy in China. At present familiar to us, it was the stock market, while in China the stock market system did not very perfect and exist some problems on efficiency, security and fair. For example, I consulted many materials and knew several stages of Chinese stock issue, international paper department how to issue stock and the relative policy and system of stock market, then I asked my advisor how to comment on it and collected some comments of experts on the website. Besides I logged in MARKET WATCH and bought several stocks to do experiment to find out the conclusion that China it was more perfect, so Chinese stock market needed to be improved.
Finance is very important in all fields and no other field can exist with breaking away from finance, so the requirements for financer should be improved in the future. Above all, in the future society, the requirement for financer was higher than before, the talent only mastered profession will unfit the future society. Because in China there are limit resources for me and I am impressed by your esteemed university, so I decided to go abroad for my future education
Yours sincerely,

Dear _,
As a 23-year-old aspiring student who has grown up and received his education in pace with the evolution of China’s market economy over the past two decades, I deem myself in possession of many professional qualities for undertaking a career in advanced marketing and business management. I believe that I have demonstrated more creativity, management skills, English language proficiency, and the courage to accept challenges than most of my peers on a number of important occasions—being selected from a large number of competitors to study at _ University of _ on an exchange program, winning prize in the _ for University Students, launching my own company upon completing my undergraduate program. My interest and my demonstrated abilities show me unmistakably that to take up a lifelong career in high-level marketing management will be very appropriate for me because that is where my potential lies. In order to scale new heights academically and to lay a solid foundation for my later-day career development, I would like to apply for a Master’s program in international marketing at the prestigious Business School in _ University. For me, this is a self-conscious attempt to face challenge and to transcend my former self. I expect to be initiated into a first-rate academic environment in which my academic foundation is consolidated and my business potential is strengthened.
It was in _ Technology and Business School that I completed my undergraduate education, majoring in marketing. As an academic discipline, marketing fascinated me for its increasingly important strategic role in modern management and for its interdisciplinary character, as it encompasses management science, psychology, sociology, statistics, etc. From the very outset of my undergraduate program, I realized the importance of seeking a comprehensive development, on both academic and personal levels, in order to become a senior management professional in the future. Therefore, throughout my undergraduate program, I endeavored to make full exploitation of all the available educational resources of my university to improve my academic performance. An examination of my academic transcript will indicate that I have maintained a year-by-year ascendance in my study. Apart from that, I have also been very active in extracurricular activities and learned German and _ languages besides English. My ability to perform independent research was cultivated and improved through writing my internship treatise and graduation thesis, both of which were given a 95-point score, the highest score in my class. In particular, my thesis On the Marketing of Hi-Tech Products, by focusing on the major business risks involved in the marketing of hi-tech products and on the short and uncertain life cycle of those products, was rated “Excellent” for detailed analyses and novel perspectives that I offered in it.
The most important part of my undergraduate graduate program is definitely my short but memorable stay in _. As a junior, I was selected through a competitive screening test to embark on a 4-month exchange program with _’s _ Polytechnic on the strengths of my distinguished academic performance, English proficiency and computer skills. This exciting and memorable experience proved extremely beneficial to me—I gained marked improvement in my English, was exposed to a totally different life style and educational system, and achieved new understanding of the concept of marketing. Plunged into a new academic environment, I demonstrated a creative and a critical spirit rare in Chinese students, and won appreciation from my _ professors. In attending the course High Tech Marketing, my team members and I spent the entire semester verifying the plausibility of a business proposal that I raised but was rejected by my _ advisor. Under my insistence and through my continued refinement, my business proposal achieved eventual success and has been incorporated into the overall business plan of _ Company. In another course International Business Plan, my fruitful collaboration with my _ classmates led to our team’s winning of the unprecedented full mark in the final evaluation of our course project. I also accumulated important experience of performing group research in the eAcademy project headed by Dr. _, in which I was responsible for the marketing planning of the enterprise.
Upon completing my undergraduate program, with the support of my friends and family members, I launched my own _ Trade Company that deals in medical equipment and provides hospital management consulting service. In doing this, I became one of the few Chinese graduates who established their own business. My business impulse originated from two sources. The first is my participation in the _ for University Students in which my team won Excellence Award (my responsibility was to formulate marketing plans for our “Optimum” Company and to conduct market surveys). Another is my internship as a senior student at an e-commerce company during which I planned and organized market investigations in preparation for the marketing of the company’s latest product—Hospital Management Information System. I saw myself as possessing necessary business management skills and marketing potential.
Managing my own company, making real business plans and designing real marketing strategies, all those have allowed me to apply my knowledge and to tap my business potential. In making this bold move, I wish to develop a clear understanding of what I am good at and to chart the course of my future career development. My present application for a Master’s program at your esteemed university is motivated by my need to receive further academic input that will enable me to develop my company into a major enterprise.
According to modern management theories, successful enterprises must be highly customer-oriented and marketing is no longer the job of a particular functional department of an enterprise. As a developing country with a planned economy for many decades, China lacks a well-developed science of management and marketing, and the current marketing practices are far from mature as marketing as a standard academic discipline is only of recent origin. Yet this may prove a blessing in disguise for me as I am located at the crucial point of China’s development in marketing theory and practice and I will enjoy greater chances of success. In my proposed degree program, I would like to focus on the marketing of Hi-tech products and on the marketing of multinational companies under cultural pluralism. The relationship between marketing and cultural pluralism has long been my major research concern and during my study in _ I have already paid special attention to the impact of cultural differences between East and West on marketing. In my future studies, I will be exposed a greater cultural diversity, which I believe will further facilitate my study and research. It is an art to deal with the subtle relationship between culture and marketing and I need to gain more understanding and experience in this regard.
Young as I am, I am fully aware of the transitory nature of life and all that I can do is to race against time to maximize knowledge and expertise and to enrich the value of my life within the limited span of my life. Through my future study, I wish to develop myself into a marketing specialist. This is an objective, and I am in possession of the necessary foundation, academic and professional, and the potential for realizing this objective.
Yours sincerely,
xuexila

Dear _,
I have always enjoyed studying Maths, Physics and Chemistry, and I would like the opportunity to continue this study. Chemical Engineering appeals to me because of the challenges involved in the application of scientific theory to practical, real world problems such as how to deal with nuclear waste. I particularly look forward to studying fluid dynamics as I was introduced to this during the Engineering Education Scheme (EES). I am aware that in today’s world chemical engineering has an increasingly important role across a wide range of industries from pharmaceuticals to petrochemicals. The broad range of career paths, and the opportunity to contribute to society through technological innovation, is for me, one of the main attractions of chemical engineering.
I have applied to take part in the Year In Industry scheme during which I hope to gain practical experience, as well as greater maturity enabling me to go into my degree course with improved skills and broader experience. I also hope to study e-learning courses on project management and presentation skills run by the IChemE. In Year 12 I took part in the EES, which improved my understanding and skills in team working, time management, and report writing, as well as visual and oral presentation. Throughout the course of the project the team had to frequently correspond with mentors in industry and academia and this experience has broadened my appreciation of practice and application in a real life situation. In July I attended a week-long ‘Into Engineering’ seminar run by REACT Engineering. Working in two teams, we were given a design exercise based upon a typical decommissioning project. I also attended a Headstart course at Newcastle University, which I thoroughly enjoyed. One of the main activities was to design, manufacture and test a small crane. I found both of these experiences very challenging, as we were given only limited time so we had to prioritise our tasks and carefully plan our work. This year a fellow student and I were awarded £500 by the European Scholarship Prize to fund a visit to Prague to do research for our A-level History coursework. I gained an understanding of the city’s culture and history and further developed my independence. During the summer I represented my school on a Connexions review of a government white paper on 14-19 education. I gained an insight into the government’s proposals and learned a lot about working with different groups of people. Last year I was part of the editorial team for the school magazine. I wrote a number of articles and I was responsible for ensuring that staff contributions were ready for the deadline. I also enjoy participating in a range of sports and have represented the school at football and cricket, which has further enhanced my team working skills. In my spare time I am working towards my Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. In September I completed a 4-day expedition in the Lake District, which tested my endurance but gave me a great sense of achievement. As part of the award I have been helping at the local youth café once a week, which I am really enjoying as it gives me the chance to meet new people. I also enjoy reading, particularly books on physics and Russian history. I am really interested in computers and I am currently trying to configure a Linux based file and print server for my home network.
For admission to a university in England you have to fill in a form from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). They for a very reasonable fee provide all applicants to unversities and colleges in the UK with a way to apply to up to 6 universities (or multiple courses at, say 3 universities). Part of the form (apart from all the obvious details such as name and address), is half a page where you are asked to write about yourself, your interests and so on. Inevitably you have to make it sound as good as possible, as you're trying to sell yourself to the universities you're applying to...I applied to the universities of Aston, Bath, Bristol, Cambridge, Imperial College London, and Loughborough. All for an MEng (Master of Engineering degree) in Chemical Engineering, except for Bristol where I went for an MEng in Computer Science, so this is tailored towards those courses. Anyway... Here it is. I don't guarantee that you won't get bored! ;-). (NB this was written in the summer of , and is therefore not too current!).Reasons for Course Choice
Since beginning secondary school, I've been very interested in Chemistry and Computing. Besides my normal schoolwork I've read around these two subjects. Because I am also very keen on Mathematics and Physics, I want to pursue a degree course that combines all or most of these. Both of my parents are Science/Engineering graduates and they have taught me some of the qualities needed for a degree course in this field. This has encouraged me to find out about the opportunities available. Aims
I have applied to several firms for sponsorship while at university and during a gap year, with the intention of getting Engineering-related work experience. This would give me valuable experience for the course at university. I hope to obtain a Master of Engineering degree and become employed in research and development in the oil or food industry. Eventually, I would like to do postgraduate study, and perhaps even teach Chemistry/Engineering. Interests
I play basketball, tennis, volleyball, and I like kayaking. By far my biggest sports interest, however, is orienteering. I've won several trophies for Andalusian and league championships, and I've helped to organise regional orienteering events. I have also designed the database system for my club. My greatest interest outside school is computing. I have done a large amount of web design. I help maintain the computer systems at my father's workplace; and I also do some part time work teaching people on a one-to-one basis how to use their computers. I like writing manuals or “notes” on things related to computers, and have published an article on web design in a small US computer magazine. I have written papers on the use of data-logging and other equipment for my school's science department. This year, I was responsible for laying out my school's entire yearbook using DTP software. Recently, I was employed developing a web site and training staff for an organisation in London. When I have time I play the keyboard, and also do some sound engineering: I used to operate the mixing desk at my local church, as well as help at my parents' workplace, which is a professional recording studio. I enjoy teaching and have given weekly tuition in Maths and English. General Points
I've lived in Spain for 14 years and am fluent in Spanish. In addition, my parents work with North Africans, Middle Easterners, Americans, Spaniards, Britons, and people of other nationalities. I have gained valuable experience growing up with many different cultures around me, and as a result appreciate the difficulties of cross-cultural communication. I have been part of several “King's Kids”, teams which perform music and dance all over Spain. This entailed travelling away from home for 3 weeks at a time, and having to work with around 60 other people. I think that this has made me a fairly rounded person, and I therefore feel confident about “fitting in” with people from any culture.
Yours sincerely,
xuexila

Dear _,
I have always aspired to work in a field which requires a great deal of drive, determination, care and compassion. It was inevitable that I would strive towards a career in medicine when first introduced to the astounding world of science. I became enticed by the workings of the world and was especially fascinated by the sheer complexity of the human body, and the diversity of the systems and functions working constantly inside of us to maintain and sustain life. An ever enquiring mind and genuine enthusiasm inspired me to study the sciences in more depth at A-Level, where my real devotion to a career in the ever-changing and greatly rewarding field of medicine flourished.
I developed a keen interest in the body's response to illness and disease during my AS-Level biology course. Independent research into pathology became evermore poignant when the focus of media coverage outlined the deterioration of our nation's health in terms of escalating instances of diabetes and heart disease arising from, for example, childhood obesity. The realisation of the magnitude of ill-health which surrounded me encouraged me to strive to make my ambition of becoming a doctor a reality.
At 15 years of age, I was disappointed to learn that I was too young to gain work experience within a hospital environment. Turning a negative into a positive, I accepted the opportunity to carry out my experience at a Veterinary Hospital and feel that from this I have gained indispensable interpersonal skills, practical knowledge of clinical procedures and a logical approach to working practice. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team enhanced greatly my ability to communicate with both staff and clients alike, and observing the daunting task of giving bad news developed my ability to empathise with others.
March 20_ saw my attendance at a PARTNERS student shadowing event at the University of Newcastle, where I attended a medical lecture and spoke with current medical students about their experiences of university life. This, and an overnight stay at Oxford University with many like-minded students, reinforced my aspiration to study medicine and made me aware of the need to possess the utmost determination and stamina to succeed.
I attended a PreMed course in September at Imperial College, London. Practical workshops offered the opportunity of wound suturing and interpreting X-rays; lectures offered a sound picture of all that medical school and a career in the medical profession entails. A non-biased account was given of the inevitable social sacrifices required to succeed in the medical profession, and the continual academic commitment required, both pre and post graduate, to accommodate the ever developing medical advances. The need to integrate recreational and professional time management to maintain a balanced lifestyle was greatly emphasised throughout the course. My love for running shall therefore remain with me through the demanding yet supremely gratifying challenge of both medical school and the medical profession thereafter.
For the past 3 years I have been and active member of St Vincent de Paul's Society; a voluntary organisation whose aim is to offer help and support to people in the local community. Focusing upon elderly care, I visit a local nursing home on a weekly basis. My confidence has spiralled as my attachment to the residents has deepened, and I feel I have gained as much pleasure from offering a friendly face, as they have from receiving one. Interaction on a one-to-one basis shows the evident importance of a holistic approach to care, which is the ethos of the nursing home.
A career in medicine where life-long learning co-exists with the opportunity to rise to new challenges is a deeply exciting prospect. Invaluable skills and attributes gained in my preparations for university have affirmed my conviction that a career in the medical field would be a most challenging, yet rewarding vocation for me to pursue.
Yours sincerely,
xuexila

Dear _,
Who am I? This is possibly the most ambiguous question, whereby a hidden depth of meaning is drowned by a trivialized sense of simplicity. I could merely reveal my name, but would that really portray who I was? “We become ourselves through others” claims Vygotsky, but are we all just conformists? Are our personalities just embedded in our genes? Do we act the way we do because we want to? Is it free will which makes us who we are? Debates such as nature v. nurture and free will v. determinism fuel my desire to learn more about both psychology and philosophy.
My passion for philosophy was sparked when reading Mitch Albom’s “The Five People You Meet in Heaven”, which overrides logic and offers an alternative to religious belief. The book itself left me highly motivated to pursue philosophical inquiry in greater depth. Through studying A level psychology I have developed a particular interest in social psychology and the influence social pressures can have on behaviour whilst developing vital skills such as the ability to critically analyse a study or theory.
Aspects of each of my A level subjects have influenced my choice of degree. Open mindedness is essential when studying A level politics. The subject itself spurs endless abstract thought, especially when concerning issues such as power. The curriculum has also enabled me to partake in structured debate with the ability to articulate personal views being essential. In addition to oral communication, essay writing is also a key feature of the syllabus and my powers of expression are constantly evolving. My ability to analyse and develop my writing skills has been accelerated through studying English at higher level, my current concentration upon metaphysical poetry and the underlying message behind abstract imagery. Studying AS level history has enabled me to investigate the different reactions to political, social, cultural, religious and economic situations.
I have been a prefect since and act as a role model to younger students as well as being an ambassador for the school. I am a learning champion within the History department whereby I work with students who require additional tutoring in order to successfully pass their GCSE’s. I have to be well prepared and patient but find it rewarding when my tutee grasps the concept. Last summer I was involved in the organization, development and supervision of a lower school fun day. Being selected to lead a small group of my peers with the brief of organizing this year’s Post 16 Prom has helped develop my confidence as it has involved visiting and selecting a venue, organizing catering, transport, publicity and the funding of the event.
Currently I work for a well established retail store; working has taught me to be flexible and adaptable as well as emphasizing the importance of time management when working under pressure. An enthusiastic, trustworthy and approachable manner is vital in the workplace in order to maintain the already high standards expected of the store. Previously I was employed in direct marketing where I monitored the system operations and the dispatch of relevant post and information. This role required me to work both in small teams and independently as well as applying my ICT skills in a real world situation.
I enjoy travelling and experiencing different cultures including the individualist New York in comparison to the collectivist streets of Havana. I am a gregarious person and enjoy spending time with close friends engaging particularly in shopping trips and social gatherings. I also regularly attend the gym in order to achieve realistic self set goals.
As an outgoing person I feel I would be able to contribute to and gain from a psychology and philosophy dual course which I see as both challenging and an exciting journey whilst helping me to understand people’s beliefs, behaviour and identity. That’s “who I am”, who are you?
Yours sincerely,
xuexila

Dear _,
I would like to apply to do a Management degree. Having acted as Managing Director on a Young Enterprise Team whilst doing my ‘AS’ levels, I came up with innovative ideas that made a very successful company. Having held management positions within Human Resources, Operations, and Finance, I quickly realised that pursuing a management degree at university would be ideal for me.
After my GCSE’s, I held a temporary job as a junior in an Insolvency practice, in order to gain work experience. Having to work to tight deadlines taught me how to work independently as part of a professional team. I learnt that in business, if one person lacks productivity, then everyone else can suffer, and also how to motivate others as a means of preventing such issues. I used the skills learnt to enhance my role as the Managing Director of my young Enterprise company, particularly methods of motivation and delegation, and the significance of being accountable for others. Having spent nearly three years working part time in a Health food shop alongside my studies, I developed my communication skills, with both colleagues and customers, and proved to be a trustworthy employee.
Being appointed as Deputy Head Boy in the sixth form was a great honour to me. My skills were greatly enhanced by holding this position, as I would often have to listen, and respond to issues brought up by fellow prefects, and students lower down the school. Through activities such as Lunch duty, I learnt the worth of different leadership skills, and that it is important to treat everyone as an individual in order to get results. I was always keen to stay into the evening to help out at school events.
Socialising is very important to me, and I am always keen to meet new people. I enjoy trying new foods to increase my knowledge of different cultures, and my culinary skills will prove very useful in independent university life. I enjoy travelling, and learning about modern history. Having recently returned from Prague, I visited a concentration camp. This was a moving experience for me, and something I will never forget. Music is one of my biggest hobbies, and I use music to help me unwind and reflect on things. I use the internet to keep up with current affairs and sports news.
I have always been a keen sportsman, representing my school in many sporting activities. I enjoy running, particularly competing in sprint races, but also long distance running as a means of keeping fit. I always try to go for a run every evening, during breaks between my A Level studies. I represented my school as a keen member of the district and Maccabi Great Britain athletics teams, particularly in the relay. I formally played tennis and table tennis in national competitions, and more recently I have played in football, rugby, and cricket leagues outside of school.
I believe that my experiences have prepared me for independent university life. My social skills together with my ambition to succeed in life prove me to be good candidate for a Management Degree.
Yours sincerely,
xuexila

Dear _,
I have been fascinated by the human mind and how it works since my early teenage years. My interest in understanding the mind and behaviour has been enhanced through studying psychology at A level. Although I have only studied this subject for a relatively short period of time, I have enjoyed the subject thoroughly and have been engaged in intriguing topics such as memory and infant attachment. I was pleased to receive the AS subject prize for psychology this year and in carrying on psychology at degree level, I will endeavour to grasp further the theories and schools of thought introduced by psychologists over the past few centuries, advancing my current knowledge and interest in such a profound field. I am enthusiast for research, finding the various concepts fascinating and have taken great satisfaction in planning and applying similar psychological research as part of my A2 coursework on factors affecting memory.
I have found many parallels between psychology and my other A level subjects, particularly Philosophy. I was principally interested in Freud's philosophical theory that God is a concept created by the superego to make sense of its experiences, and that religion in a neurotic illness stemming from sexual trauma.
I enjoy various novels and works by psychologists to expand my knowledge of the subject such as 'The Interpretation of Dreams,' which was an excellent extension to my previous knowledge of Freud. 'One flew over the cuckoo's nest' was particularly inspiring as it gave me a fictional insight into the lives of people in an asylum, principally concerned with the ways in which society applies pressure on an individual to conform to what is considered as the 'norm' in terms of attitude and behaviour.
I find psychological case studies and accounts absorbing such as 'Malignant sadness' by Lewis Wolpert and television documentaries including Channel 4's 'Mindshock' and ' Robert Winston's 'Child of our time.' Additionally, the entertainment programme 'Big Brother,' hosted on Channel 4, which the British Psychological Society labelled a “public concern,” regarding its “deliberate creation of tension and conflict,” gave me an insight into psychological disorders such as Tourettes Syndrome, anorexia and Body Dysmorphic Disorder, and increased my awareness of the ethical guidelines concerned with research.
On the British Psychological Society's website research had shown that people who have been identified as bullies believe that their bullying behaviour causes them to be perceived as admirable. Being a member of our Anti-Bullying and senior prefect team, I have to take into consideration the social and emotional factors that explain why bullies, victims, and bystanders act the way they do.
I play an active role in school life. The Community Sports Leadership Award was a valuable experience in which I attended various primary schools, created and hosted sports lessons and principally progressed my skills in confidence, team building and leadership. I have taken part in work experience in France this year working as a primary school assistant, which was truly worthwhile as I was presented with the challenging pursuit of presenting my social skills in a foreign language.
In other areas outside of school I have taken on voluntary work with primary schools and the Elderly, which has been a personal benefit, gaining confidence in communication and an overall great satisfaction from my work. I have also taken part in fund raising for charities such as Marie Curie Cancer care. I am a keen artist and additionally have an enjoyment in singing, often taking part in school music competitions and choral singing.
Along with my conscientious attitude to work and my approachable character, I would be an ideal addition to a psychology degree.
Yours sincerely,
xuexila

①自费留学生;
②全奖留学生;
③半奖留学生(免学费但需自己提供生活费);
④交换生;
1)填写完整的学生申请表;
2)申请人亲笔签名(绝对不能让人代签);
3)近期护照照片;4)身份证(或出生公证书);
5)申请费用(现行标准为每人次1000元人民币,一般依据国际汇率要进行适当的调整);
6)有效的学校录取通知书(有效性是指接收申请人的学校;
一、所有材料没有英文译文;
二、只提供近期大额存款证实;
三、没有资金来源说明的具体提供情况;
四、申请人父母双方的工作证实文件未提供具体的联系办法,无法核实其真实性;
五、未提供申请人必要的联系信息(住址、电话);

Dear _,
The more extensively one studies any subject, the more common ground one will find it shares with all the others. This can be taken to its furthest extent when applied to literature - because there is nothing that is not, or cannot be, explored in literature. Of course, this is only half of the appeal of reading and writing. For an example of the second, look to Nabokov - what does, for instance, Lolita, teach us? Only how the English language can be manipulated into something new and exhilarating, wonderfully poetic, wickedly ironic. I have a bad reading habit: I am too easily seduced by a fancy prose style.
There is nothing a true bookworm loves more than rifling through a bookshop, be it the charmingly musty atmosphere of a second-hand store, or the print-fresh fragrance of Waterstones. American literature is my current infatuation: My favourite book right now is Catch-22, an insanely hilarious (yet often extremely thought-provoking) satire set in the Second World War. I have also recently discovered that contemporary of Joseph Heller, Kurt Vonnegut, and am absolutely taken with his novels. They are all strikingly original, all of them terribly sad and terribly funny. A-Level English Literature has helped me to become a better reader; I am able to dissect texts and see the underlying meanings that may be present, and analyse the choices the author has made in language, form and structure. It has also taught me to improve my writing: it is more flowing, my expression is clearer, I have been able to curb my tendency to digress (just a little). I love exploring the possibilities of language and discovering new writers and books to feed an old obsession. Last year, a friend and I set up and now run a small book club; we have recently found ourselves (to no complaint!) in an accidentally Russian rut. We have read Dostoevsky, we have read Pasternak, we have read Turgenev, we have (appropriately, given how Nabokovian this repetition sounds) read Nabokov. Last summer, I organised for the book group to attend a reading of Chuck Palahniuk's - an author of whom I am a huge fan, perhaps best known for his novel Fight Club (later somewhat mutated into the cult film) whose excessively quotable, delightfully cynical social commentary is characterised by its repetetive patterns, unexpected metaphors, and sometimes disturbing themes. The reading was an incredible experience! I love concerts and have been attending the theatre since I was a child, but there is still something about live performances that will always remain a wonderful surprise to me. That folkish storytelling tradition is such a necessary part of literature.
Either symbiotic or parasitic is the relationship between this love and the other one; philosophy. Anyone who has devoted their time to thinking about what we could perhaps call the fundamental questions of philosophy - those concerning God, and death, and that word so often thrown around (it sounds a little common now) 'purpose', good and evil, right and wrong - will agree it is a rather consuming preoccupation. When this is the case, us readers can always return to that old escapists retreat of literature - but then, can it not be said that some of the best books ask more questions than they answer? Books are in fact to blame for my interest in philosophy, as they are for many other things: in this instance, it was a combination of a love of the Greek Classics and Jostein Gaarder's Sophie's World, a summary of a good two thousand-odd years of philosophers and philosophies. In the years since, I have read a number of other books on philosophy, most recently returning to my fascination with the ancient Greeks to read Plato's Republic; a mind-blowing excersise in the early days of Greek philosophy. The techniques used and the questions asked are certainly still very applicable today. My father is also something of a philosopher, and he has developed my interest, teaching me about and debating with me on various complex philosophical issues. In spite of, or more correctly because of my constant (allow me a colloquialism) philosophizing, I have become a christian - if a bit of an unorthodox one. I regularly attend church, and for me the main value of this is the educational one. Religion has also probably been the spur to the eleven hours of voluntary work I do at the British Red Cross bookshop (which has unexpectedly and brilliantly paid off since the manager asked me to take home any books i'd like!). This year my sixth form started a twilight A2 in Religious Education: Philosophy and Ethics, and a month into the course, I absolutely love it. It has given me the opportunity to broaden my knowledge in the subject, suggested to me new reading material, and provided an arena for philosophical debate.
An element of philosophy that seems to have gone out of fashion is that of political and economic philosophy. Stubborn and questioning from the first, I took my earliest political stance at three when I became aware of animal cruelty; although this is still an important issue for me, at the moment I excersize more concern over the state of our democracy. I am a member of a party and various pressure groups - and we are advised, when writing the personal statement, to avoid expressing a political bias either way! I shall try not to, but hope that you concur when I say that I believe in democracy, equality, freedom of speech, and as little government involvement in our lives as can be possible without risking anybody's safety, freedom and prosperity. My concern over current affairs is, however, steeped in my interest in political theory. As far as that goes, my Sociology A-Level course is of great interest. Sociology covers almost every aspect of our lives, and so informs political theory and debate no end; learning about the various perspectives on how society works pushes you to further question our culture and the prevailing normals and values, and to identify not ontly the problems in society but the possible solutions.
Now, then, for the 'outside interests' - for me, this is mainly in the arts. All too often I hear art galleries described as 'boring', but London's wide variety of galleries and exhibitions are regular haunts for me. As well as being a lover of fine art, I am very into illustration, and am a big fan of the 'Graphic Novel' - or more basically, comics! My favourite art medium, either this or sculpture - there is something that is much more real and intense in sculpture than in two-dimensional art. Juan Munoz puts this across perhaps better than any other recent artist. I have been drawing and painting for a long time, guided by my artist grandfather, and am taking a Photography A-Level. I have learned how to compose a good photograph, create an absorbing film sequence, and develop my own photos - as far as I am concerned, the most exciting part. Music and drama are also loves of mine - I was raised on Bob Dylan, establishing in me particularly an appreciation of lyrics, and I suspect that I have been writing music myself practically as long as I have known how to write! I can play very simple guitar, but someday would like to develop my abilities, as well as learn other instruments. The theatre is something else I was brought up with, but only in the past year or so have discovered the possibilities of the musical - my favourite being the fairly recent Wicked.
To conclude, very simply: the word 'philosophy' is derived from the greek for 'love' and 'knowledge' - a philosopher, a lover of knowledge. This describes me perfectly. The depth of my interest is proof that I would be able to develop my own skills and contribute to the course that I choose. I hope I have managed to convey just how much I would value the opportunity to attend a university where i could fully immerse myself in learning.
Yours sincerely,
xuexila

Dear _,
No specialty attracted me more than psychology. The weakness of human nature caused my great interests in psychology. After that I studied a couple of books which related to psychology. I realized that the ability of humans’ mind is immense. Later I was totally magnetized by the academic of psychology. An abundance of popular psychology periodicals would never failed to fascinate me during my senior school. They contained both exoteric and professional knowledge, like home and abroad, psychological counseling record and psychological counseling which I liked most. I was impressed with how seamlessly the knowledge of psychology could be applied to daily life. At the same time, I joined the psychology association as well. There I attended several lessons about personality. I showed great interests in those lessons, eager to learn more; this also made me determined my mind to do future study on psychology, and gain a solid understanding of psychology theories and concepts.
The excellent skills of math and biology made me quite confident in doing perfect work in my future psychology study. I have always been working hard on my math and biology. In primary school grade three, I began to attend math senior class in my spare time, after five years’ training I got the third prize in a nationally math match. Most of my spare time in senior school was also contributed to math. I started my biology class from junior school, even now, I can still clearly remember most of the important contains in my six text books. I have got the first prize in a science match hold by my junior school, which combined chemical, physics and biology. And the twelve years study has taught me to appreciate the enormous importance of education and the upbeat impact it has on an individual’s life.
Why I would like a degree in psychology, it is always been one of my dream. Can help people with their mental problem, compared with psychology problem
As a teenager, I can feel the study stress and the sensitive emotion problem and the presser comes from parents as well. Only a gather of these three things, sometimes, can make us disappointed to death. I also can understand those adults pressure, no matter from work children or their parents. I cannot ignore how hard the patients cope with psychology distress. I pay most attention to those children who have psychology problems, they all have bright futures, how can let those psychology problem ruined their future, they all have a long way to go, they all have countless opportunities to touch the wonderful world. I want to try my best to help those people feel our wonderful world in their limited life. I believe university education will give me an excellent opportunity to study psychology in great depeath.
However, I was not a bookworm. To extend my vision and expand knowledge, I always have enthused in school union work or association work. In my junior school time I worked for the school union, I was responsible for six grades sanitary inspection. This work made me more conscientious and more painstaking in my job. In my senior school time, I joined school’s psychology association. I worked in periodical department. After one years’ hard working, I became our department’s minister. From this, I learned how to think a thing logically, and how to organize people. Most important, I have learnt how to communicate with other people properly and clearly. In addition, I have spent considerably more time in our junior school library than my friends. The more I learnt on campus, the more I hoped to see the real world outside the ivory tower. So I am eager to go out to learn different culture to improve myself. Despite psychology, my favorite area is environment. Global warming, Melting Iceberg, sea level rise, extinct species something like that have never get out of my mind. My father always jokes on me: she is so annoying since she was a little girl. When I was taking a shower, she would always stood outside and counting the seconds; when I was driving she talks about photo-chemical smog. I not only concerned on the environment crisis, but also try my best to pursued family as well as friends stop doing harmful things to our precious environment.
Sports are always my best choice when I want to relax myself. I do sports to improve my psychical health, to meat new people, to make more close with my friends.

5.Warehouse

Dear _,
My determination to study engineering comes from my desire to seek a challenge. In life, there seems to be no bigger challenge than to learn and find out how things work. In our modern world, engineering plays a big role in the foundations of technology and knowledge and this is what I am interested in.
As my year 12 progressed, my interest in science and Maths, particularly Physics developed. Studying Physics at Advanced level allows me to think about how things move and react to forces and how these properties can be used in solving both practical and theoretical situations. Maths interests me as it develops my problem solving skills, allowing me to apply familiar concepts to unfamiliar situations. My enthusiasm towards these subjects encouraged me to take up AS Further Maths. In doing so, I hope to expand my knowledge to achieve a level of understanding satisfactory to a potential degree level student. In addition to Physics and Maths, I am also studying Biology which provides me with the opportunity to develop my practical skills as I am required to work within groups. My communication skills have been put to the test during these lessons and I have proved many times that I am a team player.
After much research, I decided to attend taster courses at City University and Queen Mary University of London to experience what engineering involves. These informative taster courses offered me a unique chance to understand and to observe different areas of engineering which subsequently led me to the decision to pursue mechanical engineering. Its ability to allow me to see how things work fascinates me and furthermore, as mechanical engineering is a diverse field, it will allow me to learn and use many skills which can be transferred onto many employment opportunities.
Although I have enjoyed the challenge that my school-based work has given me, I have always sought to extend my knowledge. Recently, I built a computer. I discovered how each component is connected and how one energy source is converted into another. This has allowed me to apply the theory I learn within the curriculum to real situations. Furthermore, I was able to see how the components fit together by taking apart unwanted pieces from my old computer.
I have always been willing to give my time to take part in activities such as volunteering. I once raised money for the Marie Curie foundation. During this period, I improved my communication skills and confidence as I met and talked to many members of the community. I found that this experience was rewarding and fulfilling. I am a trusted member of my year group and when asked to be an ambassador for my sixth form, I accepted. This experience allowed me to demonstrate my organisation and communicational skills as I was required to confidently guide and talk to many potential students to the college. In addition, throughout my academic career, I have played an active role in a variety of different extracurricular activities. I am an adept musician and passed my grade 4 examinations in flute. Although I have decided to discontinue the examinations, every year during events such as Chinese New Year, I play the flute for my local Chinese community.
I believe that success as an engineer in a modern society requires a combination of management, communication and business skills. Therefore, with my previous experiences, focused attitude and will for success, I have the ability and motivation to meet the demands of studying at degree level. The prospect of studying engineering excites me, and I feel confident that I will make contributions to university life.

Dear _,
I intend to continue the study of History at university. As a subject I have been interested in since childhood, I enjoy studying the past and how it has shaped our future. The study of History allows us to view the mistakes and successes of the past and employ them to the future. a??History is a guide to navigation in perilous times. History is who we are and why we are the way we are. (McCullough) History allows society to form an identity and to advance through learned tolerance and understanding.Last year in AS History I studied he unification of Italy which was key in my understanding of history. It was fascinating to explore how Italy came together as one country from several states and to discuss whether Italy would have formed alone or whether in required to push from those such as Garibaldi or Cavour.
Having spent many years studying modern history and decided to take it upon myself to expand my knowledge into ancient history. Earlier this year I read a book called Cleopatra by Lucy Hughes- Hallet. It was interesting to read about such a famous and influential woman of history from another womans perspective. Often Cleopatra is portrayed as femme fatale- as in the portrait by John William Waterhouse or Shakespeare who said a??other women cloy the appetites they feed: but she makes hungry, where most she satisfies.
She is often seen by historians as a seductive, potentially poisonous temptress, however this is not necessarily how Hughes-Hallet interprets her; to her she is plainer, more ambitious and less cruel. I think it is difficult to separate fact from fiction when it comes to ancient history and especially in this case someone as constantly redesigned as Cleopatra.
History has taught me to make substantiated judgments and to interpret and analyse external material as well as my own opinions. I find History intriguing because it gives me the opportunity to study the development of human society over a long-term. My inquisitive mind has further contributed to my enthusiasm for the subject and I enjoy working independently. But all three of my subjects have honed my writing skills, to be able to select and organise knowledge and communicate it coherently and concisely. More specifically, Sociology has been helpful in discerning social trends, and understanding something of the human psyche; and English Literature allows me to study works, in context. All these skills will enable me to read History at university.
I enjoy visiting museums and monuments of history when I have the opportunity. I particularly love the trench experience at the Imperial War Museum and more ancient history- such as the ancient human occupation of Britain - at the National History Museum.
I work well within a team, but also have the necessary attributes to lead if I am called upon, demonstrated in my active participation in my school's Charities Committee for the past six years, organising various charity events throughout the school. My work as secretary of the Charities Committee allows me to represent the school in the community and has taught me management and organisation skills. In school I have also been a keen participant in the orchestra in which I am lead violinist in school and also play for the borough. I have been involved in several school plays either back stage, in the orchestra or as part of the cast. I have also been involved in numerous school sports teams, including the netball and athletics teams. I am a naturally cheerful person who has a positive outlook on life, but with the maturity necessary for university, and as such, I feel that I am fully prepared for the academic step up to degree level. I greatly anticipating the opportunity not only to go to university, but specifically to read History as I know it will provide me with vital life skills, as well as giving me access to a potentially wide and varied career within the specialty.
Yours sincerely,

Dear _,
Computing and its applications have always fascinated me and for this reason I have found my A-level courses extremely interesting. This also has maintained my long-term interest in computer-related careers. I have studied mathematics, physics and computing to A-level and also during the first year at Hills Road Sixth Form College I re-took my GCSE English.
Last year and this year I have been improving my self-learning, and developing many skills with the help of the key skills qualifications and A-level General Studies. My sincerest desire is to become a computer scientist. Specifically, I am interested in exploring how problems can be modeled and solved using artificial intelligence.
I also want to learn about human cognition and machine intelligence. I have been studying the online debate over whether machines will ever become “intelligent” given the current course of research and reading about such issues as whether a machine can acquire “common sense” (as discussed in Hubert Dreyfus's book “What Computers Still Can't Do”). I have been exploring many different areas within the domain of artificial intelligence (such as neural networks, genetic algorithms, and natural language processing). The bottom line is that I want to be a part of this exciting field.
Over the summer I traveled to Russia, and thoroughly enjoyed exploring a very different part of the world. My other interests include current affairs and sports, such as football, tennis and general fitness. Ever since the start of sixth form I have been a successful member of the college football team. I have played basketball as an enrichment activity because it was a new sport to me at the beginning of sixth form. I also participated in a 5-a-side indoor football tournament at the college. In addition to pursuing my academic studies I would like to continue some of these sports at university.

Dear _,
Among the 26 English alphabets, the one I like most is the capitalized D because this alphabet, simple as it is, is the most beautiful one. The two strokes, one vertical line and one curve, adumbrate two totally divergent trajectories as if serving as constant indicator of the psyche of the professionals in the advertising industry: to travel from one point to another, there is an infinite number of routes to choose; but ultimately speaking, there are only two routes: one is along a straight line, the other along a curve. While the general public may opt for the first, advertising professionals should decide on the second. A curved trajectory may well enable one to expand his horizon, enrich his experience of life, and cultivate his capability for excellent interpersonal exchange and communication. I maintain the conviction that the longer the journey of life that one travels, the richer the experience one can derive from life and hence the greater the novelty that he can create out of the apparently commonplace.
In 1998, I entered _ University with remarkable performance at the National College Entrance Examination (among the top 10 percent of the participants majoring in Humanities Disciplines)。 During the first year of my undergraduate studies, I majored in International Law but it immediately dawned on me that I was not meant for studies in this field and my real interest lied in advertising. Therefore, with extra efforts I audited all the major courses in advertising and in the second year, with a solid command of all the theoretical knowledge of the basic courses, I transferred to Advertising Speciality. Once I embarked on studying what really interested me, I made rapid progress and my GPA reached 3.5 (among the top three for 26 students of my class)。 In addition, I achieved the highest score of the class in four most important courses in the field: History of Chinese and Foreign Advertising, Principles of Advertising, Advertisement Planning, and Mass Communication.
As I delved deeper into my subject, I came to acquire an increasingly profound understanding of the nature of advertising. As a matter of fact, advertising is an art of persuasion, concerned with how the advertiser can influence the behavior and value orientation of the general public with his individually unique mentality and perspective. It is an integral branch of mass communication, inextricably intertwined with both art and economics. At the same time, it requires a framework of scientific management. In the course of my studies, I learned to exploit another form of language, my advertising designs, to conduct dialogues with my audience and to convey through those work my ideas and perceptions in order to achieve the objective of affecting the recipients' psychology and conduct and realizing the value of communication. But I ventured beyond the mere designing of individual advertisements. I also attempted at a series of coordination work that included the planning, execution, solution and effect of advertising. This process helped me to perfect my framework of theoretical conceptions concerning such notions as personal communication, interpersonal communication and mass communication. I immersed myself in a wide variety of advertising courses. By studying advertising, I could feel the joy of thinking and the charm of knowledge.
Advertising is an art more to be practiced than theorized. For my extra-curricular practice, I worked part-time for the WuHan Silver-Horse Advertising Corporation, an advertising agency which enjoys very prestigious reputation in and around WuHan. After being subjected to the most rigorous screening test, I was recruited as one of the five undergraduate students from my university and worked on several projects under the direct leadership of the chief supervisor of the Planning Department. On account of my distinctive notion and original creativity, my design for an advertisement for an automobile maintenance center was adopted, a fact which adequately evinces my professional qualities and tremendous potential. Later, with strong recommendations from my teacher, I worked at a medium-size advertising company in Beijing, responsible for the advertising agent business in the magazine Global Weekly. With the company's support, I participated in a number of designing contests ranging from the 10th Golden Calf Advertising Contest sponsored by the Taiwan's China Times, the 2nd Academy Advertising Competition sponsored by China Advertising Association to the Annual CAC Public Welfare Advertising Competition sponsored by the publishing house of International Advertising Magazine. My participation in those events not only brought me important awards but also enabled me to derive much professional knowledge from the exchange and cooperation with other staff, apart from enhancing my hands-on ability and practical problem-solving skills.
I took part consecutively in two authoritative Competitions for Young Advertisers, which aroused my attention to the discrepancies in the advertising level and the advertising consciousness between Taiwan and mainland China as well as the disparity in the advertising management. In order to call the serious attention of China's advertising industry to those problems, I published a full-length academic paper entitled On the Eve of WTO Accession: A Perspective on the Present Conditions of Advertising Management on Mainland China on the website of China Advertising Communication and Research (this website is launched by XiaMen University, the first university in China to have established an Advertising Department and which enjoys a very high academic prestige)。
Historically speaking, China's advertising industry can only be described as underdeveloped compared with that of the advanced Western countries. Although China's advertising industry is achieving remarkable development around the turn of the century, challenges and obstacles are equally serious. For instance, the relationship between the client, the media and the advertising company has not been properly established. The advertising agent system and the relevant legal regulations of advertising are not fully developed. The awareness of self-discipline is weak within this profession and a sound system of social supervision over unlawful advertising practices is lacking.
With China's immediate accession into WTO, China's overall advertising industry will face severe challenges presented by major international advertising agencies. On the other hand, China promises a bright and alluring prospect in advertising industry as China has the largest advertising market among the developing countries. The profit of the advertising industry maintains an annual growth rate of 39.73. Such a growth momentum is sufficient to indicate the tremendous dimension and the exciting prospect of China's future advertising industry. This situation necessarily calls for the emergence of a large number of highly qualified advertising professionals, especially those who can incorporate both their intimate knowledge of China's domestic advertising market and international advertising background.
It is precisely against this backdrop that I, equipped with a solid groundwork (at once theoretical and empirical) in the field of advertising acquired from my undergraduate education, wish to apply for a graduate program. My motivation is fairly simple: only the United States, a country with the most unparalleled development in advertising industry and the most prestigious institutions of higher learning in mass communication of which advertising is a part, can offer the necessary environment in which I can mature toward my professional goals.
Now that I have charted my course of action, I am on the verge of proceeding from one point of my life to another point. To return to my metaphor of the alphabet D, I have decided to relinquish the effortless straight line in favor of the beautiful curve, for I believe that whatever the turns and twists alongside it, it will ultimately lead to my prescribed ideal. The profound truth inherent in it has already been given the most poetical pronunciation by the poet Robert Frost at the conclusion of his The Road Not Taken: Two roads diverged in the wood, and I - / I took the one less traveled by / And that has made all the difference.
Yours sincerely,
