I know that many of you graduates today, whether you were born in 1907 or 1967, have faced similar barriers to completing your studies and have sometimes felt inferior around those you work or socialize with just because you didn t have a degree.

But I am here today -- like you are -- to prove that it can be done; that the power gained by understanding and appreciating the world around us can be obtained by anyone regardless of social status, personal challenges, or age. That belief is what has motivated me for the last 75 years to get this degree. It is also the mission of the Harvard Extension School. Without the support I received from this school, I might not have graduated until I was 100 -- a phrase that many of you have probably used in jest.

There are many students here who do not have the opportunity that I do to speak their minds and have everybody listen, whether they want to or not. But be assured, fellow graduates, that we are more similar than you might think. If you have treated education as your main goal, and not as a means to an end, then you, too, have probably been claimed as a missing person once in your academic career, whether you were lost in the stars or the stacks of Widener Library.

自从地球上有了人类，知识便萌芽在人类的智慧中，从茹毛饮血的远古到高度文明的当代，每一次社会的进步。无不显示出知识的巨大作用。知识的进步，推动了历史的发展，促进了人类的文明。知识就是力量！

当前，世界上流行这样一种说法：看一个国家、一个民族是否繁荣、富强，就看这个国家、这个民族的人民文化知识水平。我认为这种说法不无道理。即使一个国家暂时还不够富裕，但只要它有智慧的人民，有重视知识的传统，那就可以断言：这个国家是有前途的。而如果一个国家、一个民族目前很富裕，却供养着一群“不学无术”之徒，其结果必然是可悲的。它一定会渐渐地衰落下去。

历史上的唐朝之所以形成“开元盛世”的繁荣景象。除了皇帝的开明之外，最主要的原因是当时各行各业科学技术得以充分发展。国内人才济济，国家力量强大、威震四海。

古时候，风雨雷电等自然现象都被视作神的行为。每逢大旱，老百姓就杀猪宰羊。送上祭坛，磕头求神，听命道士呼凤唤雨。在今天看来，这些似乎太愚蠢可笑了，然而它正是没有知识而导致的必然结果。现在我们有了科学知识，有了人工降雨的办法，即使遇上大旱，庄稼照样可以长得很好。“老天”也不能卡我们的脖子了。人定胜天，就是因为人们有了知识。

由此可见，国家的繁荣、富强是离不开知识的。

篇19：知识就是力量作文

知识就是力量的源泉，知识就是智慧的化身，知识就是通往成功之路的金钥匙。

十二月十九日，在去学校考试的路上，我对妈妈说：“如果我考一个满分，你就得给我买二十五本书，再带我去哈尔滨看冰灯”。妈妈说：“同意”。我就高高兴兴的到学校考试去了。

十二月二十六日，我去学校取成绩，回到家妈妈就问我，考得怎么样？我说：“您自己看看就知道了。”妈妈看完我的卷子后，严厉地对我说：“不行，没达到要求，还差0.5分”

可是我不甘心，就想办法说服妈妈。于是我就对妈妈说：“读书能让我变得更聪明；读书能让我变得更有智慧；读书能让我变得更有学问；读书能让我变得更有知识;读书能让我的学习成绩进步；读书能让我长大以后变成有才能的人。”

我还知道好多知识呢！地球是一个行星；火星上没有运河；水星上没有水；公鸡是法国的国鸟；空气的流动形成了风；萤火虫的发光器在尾部；生物体的基本单位是细胞；大象和老鼠的细胞几乎差不多；千古一帝是秦始皇；楚汉双雄是项羽和刘邦；中国的四大发明是造纸术、活字印刷、火药、指南针，我还知道……

妈妈你看我说了这么多读书的好处，其实这些也是我从读过的书本里学来的，妈妈您现在是不是应该给我买书了呢?

紧接着，我又对妈妈说：“您也应该带我去哈尔滨看冰灯吧！”去哈尔滨玩就是去旅游，在旅游的过程中我能把看到的、听到的写成日记，提高写作水平；在旅游的过程中能让我增长见识；在旅游的过程中能让我大开眼界；在旅游的过程中能让我积累更多的写作素材，这样我就能提高语文写作水平。正所谓“读万卷书，行万里路吗！”

请妈妈您不要扼杀了我的读书的天分，书是阳光雨露，让我在知识的海洋中茁壮成长。妈妈再说了，你想一想，你给我买书总比给我买小食品强啊！最后，我用一大套机关枪式的大道理把妈妈说服了。

知识可以振兴国家，科学技术是第一生产力，各国之间的竞争归根到底是人才的竞争。第二次世界大战后，日本作为战败国损失惨重。但20年后，它成为世界上第二大经济国家，因为它大力发展科教兴国，“落后就要挨打”这是永不变的教训。人只有大胆创新，与时俱进，社会才会迅速发展，国家会在国际舞台上起领先作用。科教兴国是我国必须长期坚持的基本国策，可见知识力量之巨大啊！知识是催化剂，加快国家的兴盛。
