Good morning everyone, it's my pleasure to be here and talk about dreams and ambitions with you. When I was a primary school student I wrote in my composition that I want to be a scientist when I grow up. At that age I didn't know what is a scientist, nor did I know what is dream. I wrote it because it's a standard answer for a composition test. And I know if I wrote that I want to be a peasant I would be criticized and laughed at, no matter what reason I gave it. But now in university, one of my classmates changed my idea. At the career planning class when asked about our dreams, one of my classmates stood up and said, “ I want to be a peasant because I grow up in a peasant family and I love it.” No laughter, no criticism, he was the only who winned a clapping.

It sets me thinking, which should be a man's dream? a scientist, or a peasant? It's not a simple question and my answer is both. This is exactly my understanding of this topic. Dreams are something we really want and are willing to try every effort to achieve, no matter how great or how small, no matter how others think, it depends on you.

Life is long, and we are just on the starting point. Finally we'll understand life is not just about making a living. There're something much more important than money and material enjoyment, that is spiritual wealth, that is dream. It's the process of your pursuit of dream, the process when you are trying, when you are seeking, when you are struggling, when you failed and restarted again and again with your determination, hardwork, and perseverance that make you, build you, and help you to lead a worthy and significative life, whether you'll achieve your dream or not, the result is not that important.

不好让安全成为咱们心中永远的痛

安全是什么，安全是企业的性命，是家庭的愉悦，是平安，更是一种珍爱性命的人生态度。春天走了会再来，花儿谢了会再开。然而，性命对咱们却只有一次啊!安全这沉重的话题，带给咱们的思考确实太沉重了!安全上班，安全回家，会让亲人少一份牵挂，父母多一份宽慰，家庭多一份欢乐。

做好安全生产工作，是企业生存发展的基本要求，是事关职工群众性命财产安全，企业发展稳定的大事。坚持“安全第一、预防为主、科学管理、持续发展”的方针。在实际工作中严格遵守“三不伤害”的原则，以饱满的热情，细心的工作态度，在各自不一样的岗位奉献自我的聪明才智，为企业的发展贡献自我一份力量。安全生产无小事，谁忽视，谁放松，谁就要吃苦头，谁就要受到惩罚。在工作中咱们要坚决与各种各样的不安全行为、现象作斗争。当产量、质量、工程进度和效益与安全发生矛盾时，优先思考抓好安全工作，坚决做到一切从安全出发，千方百计杜绝、遏制、消除各种不安全现象。

“千里之堤，毁于蚁穴”!警惕与安全共存，麻痹与事故相连!当侥幸心理闪现时，麻痹思想抬头时，请想一想那一幕幕血的教训。安全不是生产指标，欠产了能够追回来。安全是人命关天的头等大事，任何单位只要发生一齐安全职责事故，不仅仅给企业造成经济损失，有时甚至会赔上性命，再想弥补，一切都晚了。历数以往发生的大大小小的事故，无一不与粗心，疏忽有关。记得年初淮海站开业前培训时，从经重点领悟过南通叠石桥加油站火灾事故，一辆社会油罐车运送90#汽油15105升到南通叠石桥加油站，油品卸完后，为卸净余油，站长取下静电接地夹要求驾驶员将车辆沿外侧加油岛绕行一圈后，停放在加油站罩棚下方的两个加油岛中间，站长与押运员用一手提小铁桶从油罐车底阀接放油品。此时，油桶突然起火，并且火势迅速蔓延。当地消防车接警后先后出动近20台消防车救火。此次事故烧毁油罐车和小货车各一辆、恒山牌加油机4台、加油站钢结构罩棚严重烧塌。分析事故原因发现南通通州叠石桥加油站作业人员严重违反加油站接卸散装油品的作业规程，不接静电接地线并用铁桶接卸余油，驾驶员违规停放车辆，油站也未及时发现并制止。另外加油站接卸油作业现场管理混乱、监管不严，制度执行不到位，应急处理不当，安全教育培训

不到位。南通分公司零售、物流、安全等职能部门安全检查、日常管理和监督考核不到位等诸多薄弱环节，也是造成这起事故的原因。发生这样的事故难道说是必然的吗?如果咱们的安全意识强一点，咱们的职责心再强一点，这样的事故是完全能够避免的。工作时一丝不苟，严格按操作规程操作，遵守一切规章制度，是生产工作得以正常进行，减少和杜绝一切安全事故的前提。从我做起，从此刻做起，从日常生产工作中的每件小事做起，珍爱性命，杜绝违章作业，就是给企业、家庭创造的最大财富。

“前车之鉴，后事之师”，安全工作只有起点，没有终点。“不伤害自我，不伤害他人，不被他人伤害”是咱们建立和谐社会、和谐企业的基础。在每一天生活和工作中，咱们每个人要始终将“安全先于一切，重于一切”的工作方针根植于心底，立足岗位，始终做到防微杜渐，警钟长鸣，把遵守各项规章制度当成维护自我的性命一样来对待。

每道工序、每个岗位都不是孤立存在的，而是相互呼应，紧密相连的关联。当同事需要帮忙时，当一个同事违规操作时，当有人不遵守安全操作规程时，咱们就当时时提醒他“安全这根弦不能松”。同事们的这种关心、规劝多了、提醒多了，违规及不安全的举动也就少了。大家齐心协力争创安全先进群众，争当安全先进个人，正因正是“安全”持续着咱们企业高速、迅猛的发展态势，也正是“安全”让咱们企业不断的走向发展壮大。

some say growing up in rich family promotes children's personality and character. some think otherwise. what's your opinion? why?

well, it's quite a question argued by people all the time. i think a person's personality has little relation to his family economic level. it's commonly said that a child in rich family will has more chances and better choice for his study. however, if the kid himself isn't aware of this, that is all in vain. it's not unusual that many children from rich family are quite rude and conceited although they are always receive the best education. then, how about the poor family's children? there is another saying that adversity cultivates heroes. to be honest, i disagree with it too. poor children should learn harder and catch every chance to strengthen themselves. however, the reality is often not like that. subjectively speaking, poor children are easy to feel inferior and thus can't study well. even if they study well, they hardly do well in practicing ability. objectively speaking, poor children can hardly receive good and plentiful education because of the economic limit. that will cause deficiency in some literal or artistic talent such as music or dance. therefore, i think children's personality have little relation to their family situation.

A 17-year-old student who spent much of high school living bouncing around homeless shelters — and sometimes sleeping in her car — today graduated as valedictorian of her class at Charles Drew High School in Clayton County, Ga., just outside of Atlanta.

Getting a shower, food and clean clothes was an everyday struggle,” Fearce said in a speech she gave at her graduation ceremony.

Fearce overcame her day-to-day struggles by focusing on a better day.“I just told myself to keep working, because the future will not be like this anymore,” she told WSBTV.

“Don’t give up. Do what you have to do right now so that you can have the future that you want,” Fearce said.

That’s how I came to be the leader of the antisocial group. We clung to each other as a way of validating our rejection of all those social people.

Imagine, just for the sake of discussion, that you had a few hours a week and a few dollars a month to donate to a cause and you wanted to spend that time and money where it would have the greatest impact in saving and improving lives. Where would you spend it?

For Melinda and for me, the challenge is the same: how can we do the most good for the greatest number with the resources we have.

During our discussions on this question, Melinda and I read an article about the millions of children who were dying every year in poor countries from diseases that we had long ago made harmless in this country. Measles, malaria, pneumonia, hepatitis B, yellow fever. One disease I had never even heard of, rotavirus, was killing half a million kids each year- none of them in the United States.

We were shocked. We had just assumed that if millions of children were dying and they could be saved, the world would make it a priority to discover and deliver the medicines to save them. But it did not. For under a dollar, there were interventions that could save lives that just weren’t being delivered.

The answer is simple, and harsh. The market did not reward saving the lives of these children, and governments did not subsidize it. If we can stretch the reach of market forces so that more people can make a profit, or at least make a living, serving people who are suffering from the worst inequities. We also can press governments around the world to spend taxpayer money in ways that better reflect the values of the people who pay the taxes.

If we can find approaches that meet the needs of the poor in ways that generate profits for business and votes for politicians, we will have found a sustainable way to reduce inequity in the world.This task is open-ended. It can never be finished. But a conscious effort to answer this challenge will change the world.

I am optimistic that we can do this, but I talk to skeptics who claim there is no hope. They say: “Inequity has been with us since the beginning, and will be with us till the end – because people just … don’t … care.” I completely disagree.

I believe we have more caring than we know what to do with. All of us here in this Yard, at one time or another, have seen human tragedies that broke our hearts, and yet we did nothing, not because we didn’t care, but because we didn’t know what to do. If we had known how to help, we would have acted.

The barrier to change is not too little caring; it is too much complexity. To turn caring into action, we need to see a problem, see a solution, and see the impact. But complexity blocks all three steps.

Even with the advent of the Internet and 24-hour news, it is still a complex enterprise to get people to truly see the problems. When an airplane crashes, officials immediately call a press conference. They promise to investigate, determine the cause, and prevent similar crashes in the future.

We don’t read much about these deaths. The media covers what’s new – and millions of people dying is nothing new. So it stays in the background, where it’s easier to ignore. But even when we do see it or read about it, it’s difficult to keep our eyes on the problem. It’s hard to look at suffering if the situation is so complex that we don’t know how to help. And so we look away.

If we can really see a problem, which is the first step, we come to the second step: cutting through the complexity to find a solution.

Finding solutions is essential if we want to make the most of our caring. If we have clear and proven answers anytime an organization or individual asks “How can I help?,” then we can get action – and we can make sure that none of the caring in the world is wasted. But complexity makes it hard to mark a path of action for everyone who cares — and that makes it hard for their caring to matter.

Cutting through complexity to find a solution runs through four predictable stages: determine a goal, find the highest-leverage approach, discover the ideal technology for that approach, and in the meantime, make the smartest application of the technology that you already have whether it’s something sophisticated, like a drug, or something simpler, like a bednet.

The AIDS epidemic offers an example. The broad goal, of course, is to end the disease. The highest-leverage approach is prevention. The ideal technology would be a vaccine that gives lifetime immunity with a single dose. So governments, drug companies, and foundations fund vaccine research. But their work is likely to take more than a decade, so in the meantime, we have to work with what we have in hand – and the best prevention approach we have now is getting people to avoid risky behavior.

The final step – after seeing the problem and finding an approach – is to measure the impact of your work and share your successes and failures so that others learn from your efforts.

You have to have the statistics, of course. You have to be able to show that a program is vaccinating millions more children. You have to be able to show a decline in the number of children dying from these diseases. Remember going to Davos some years back and sitting on a global health panel that was discussing ways to save millions of lives. Millions! Still, I’m optimistic. Yes, inequity has been with us forever, but the new tools we have to cut through complexity have not been with us forever. They are new – they can help us make the most of our caring – and that’s why the future can be different from the past.

Sixty years ago, George Marshall came to this commencement and announced a plan to assist the nations of post-war Europe. It is virtually impossible at this distance to grasp at all the real significance of the situation.”

My mother, who was filled with pride the day I was admitted here – never stopped pressing me to do more for others. A few days before my wedding, she hosted a bridal event, at which she read aloud a letter about marriage that she had written to Melinda. My mother was very ill with cancer at the time, but she saw one more opportunity to deliver her message, and at the close of the letter she said: “From those to whom much is given, much is expected.”

And just feeling that you have enough of everything means that you do indeed have enough.

I have a friend named Monty Roberts who owns a horse ranch in San Ysidro. He has let me use his house to put on fund-raising events to raise money for youth at risk programs.

The last time I was there he introduced me by saying, “I want to tell you why I let Jack use my house. It all goes back to a story about a young man who was the son of an itinerant horse trainer who would go from stable to stable, race track to race track, farm to farm and ranch to ranch, training horses. As a result, the boy”s high school career was continually interrupted. When he was a senior, he was asked to write a paper about what he wanted to be and do when he grew up.

“That night he wrote a seven-page paper describing his goal of someday owning a horse ranch. He wrote about his dream in great detail and he even drew a diagram of a 200-acre ranch, showing the location of all the buildings, the stables and the track. Then he drew a detailed floor plan for a 4,000-square-foot house that would sit on a 200-acre dream ranch.

”He put a great deal of his heart into the project and the next day he handed it in to his teacher. Two days later he received his paper back. On the front page was a large red F with a note that read, `See me after class.“

”The boy with the dream went to see the teacher after class and asked, `Why did I receive an F?“

”The teacher said, `This is an unrealistic dream for a young boy like you. You have no money. You come from an itinerant family. You have no resources. Owning a horse ranch requires a lot of money. You have to buy the land. You have to pay for the original breeding stock and later you“ll have to pay large stud fees. There”s no way you could ever do it.’ Then the teacher added, `If you will rewrite this paper with a more realistic goal, I will reconsider your grade.’

“The boy went home and thought about it long and hard. He asked his father what he should do. His father said, `Look, son, you have to make up your own mind on this. However, I think it is a very important decision for you.’

”Finally, after sitting with it for a week, the boy turned in the same paper, making no changes at all. He stated, `You can keep the F and I“ll keep my dream.”“

Monty then turned to the assembled group and said, ”I tell you this story because you are sitting in my 4,000-square-foot house in the middle of my 200-acre horse ranch. I still have that school paper framed over the fireplace.“ He added, ”The best part of the story is that two summers ago that same schoolteacher brought 30 kids to camp out on my ranch for a week.“ When the teacher was leaving, he said, `Look, Monty, I can tell you this now. When I was your teacher, I was something of a dream stealer. During those years I stole a lot of kids’ dreams. Fortunately you had enough gumption not to give up on yours.’”

Don“t let anyone steal your dreams. Follow your heart, no matter what.
