As I'm sure all of you know, this campus was once home to Yenching University which was founded by American missionaries. Many of its wonderful buildings were designed by an American architect. I am, however, grateful that this day is different in one important respect from another important occasion 79 years ago. In June of 1919, the first president of Yenching University, John Leighton Stuart, was set to deliver the very first com/#mencement address on these very grounds. At the appointed hour, he appeared, but no students appeared. They were all out leading the May 4th Movement for China's political and cultural renewal. When I read this, I hoped that when I walked into the auditorium today, someone would be sitting here. And I thank you for being here, very much. (Applause.)

Over the last 100 years, this university has grown to more than 20,000 students. Your graduates are spread throughout China and around the world. You have built the largest university library in all of Asia. Last year, 20 percent of your graduates went abroad to study, including half of your math and science majors. And in this anniversary year, more than a million people in China, Asia, and beyond have logged on to your web site. At the dawn of a new century, this university is leading China into the future.

the most important of these things is an activity which at most gradually builds up something that you are glad to see coming into existence. women who take an instinctive pleasure in their children can get this kind of satisfaction out of bringing up a family. artists and authors and men of science get happiness in this way if their own work seems good to them. but there are many humbler forms of the same kind of pleasure. many men who spend their working life in the city devote their weekends to voluntary and unremunerated toil in their gardens, and when the spring comes, they experience all the joys of having created beauty. the whole subject of happiness has, in my opinion, been treated too solemnly.

it had been thought that man cannot be happy without a theory of life or a religion. perhaps those who have been rendered unhappy by a bad theory may need a better theory to help them to recover, just as you may need a tonic when you have been ill. but when things are normal a man should be healthy without a tonic and happy without a theory. it is the simple things that really matter. if a man delights in his wife and children, has success in work, and finds pleasure in the alternation of day and night, spring and autumn, he will be happy whatever his philosophy may be. if, on the other hand, he finds his wife fateful, his children’s noise unendurable, and the office a nightmare; if in the daytime he longs for night, and at night sighs for the light of day, then what he needs is not a new philosophy but a new regimen--a different diet, or more exercise, or what not. man is an animal, and his happiness depends on his physiology more than he likes to think. this is a humble conclusion, but i cannot make myself disbelieve it. unhappy businessmen, i am convinced, would increase their happiness more by walking six miles every day than by any conceivable change of philosophy.

我的名字叫谢天元。我今年17岁。我的生日是1月1日。这是新年的第一天。我来自13类,二年级的君安第一高中。

我是一个开朗的少年,我的爱好是广泛的。在我的业余时间我喜欢打乒乓球和足球。放学后,我喜欢上网、听音乐。我也将进入阅读来丰富我的'知识,了解世界。我喜欢阅读,我经常从学校图书馆借书。我喜欢读书,因为读书可以让我快乐,每天阳光明媚。

然后我会说某事关于我的家庭。我家有三口人,我妈妈,爸爸和我。我的父亲是一个严格的但善良的人。他总是把自己的心在他的生意。我妈妈是一名教师。她做的很好。无论他们做什么,或者他们有多忙,他们总是给我深深的爱。我也爱他们。

只要你努力工作,就会有收获。这是我的座右铭。我将遵循这条道路,努力学习。

今天，我演讲的题目是——《让梦想飞翔，让信念开花》。

毛毛虫的梦想是有一天能变成美丽的蝴蝶;鸟的梦想是拥有一个干净美丽的家园;蜗牛的梦想是有一天能跑的跟袋鼠一样快，而我的梦想是当一名光荣的人民老师。

从上学开始，我就被教师这个神圣的职业吸引，我不仅从老师那里学到了知识，而且他们美好的品德、一言一行都给我留下深刻的印象。从那时起，我就将这个梦想悄悄的藏在了心中，并开始为这个伟大的梦想而努力奋斗。在我眼中，老师的知识是渊博的，我要向老师学习。就这样，我努力丰富自己的知识，开拓自己的视野，遨游在“书海”中，是一件令我痴迷的事，也成为了一件我常做的事。我用知识的露水，小心翼翼地灌溉着我播撒下的梦想的“种子”，使它长出了嫩绿的叶子，将来能开花结果。

我知道，要让梦想早一天成真，我前面的路还很漫长，但是我相信：梦想，是人生中的启明星，能指引正确的方向;梦想，是一枚徽章，是人生中奋斗的目标。因为有了梦想，人生才会精彩!因为有了梦想，明天才能更加灿烂辉煌!
