It was an intensive 2 year process, and one that taught me no matter how much you put on your plate, if you are committed to achieving excellence in all of your duties, it is possible—you just need to make the time. The program required the completion of many intensive group projects and my team and I were able to complete cases, write up management reports, and present them to a simulated board of directors—all of which has helped to build my confidence in my abilities and teach me that the benefits of team work in the business world are just as essential as team work on the soccer field.

I am eager now to bring my leadership abilities, involved personality, and strong commitment to academic success to business school. I know that there is nothing I can not accomplish as long as I set my mind to it, and this next step is essential for me to realize my dreams for the future.

一、参加考试

1、办理社会安全卡

第一种类型：F签证

第一步：参加标准化考试

去美国读本科的标准化考试包括两部分：一是TOEFL，二是SAT考试。其中托福是必考的，也有部分学校可以接受雅思来替代托福成绩。对于排名前五十的学校，如果中国学生没有参加SAT考试，则一般不容易被录取。因为和你竞争这些名额的学生大多都会参加SAT考试，甚至需要考SAT 2考试。

美国本科申请对于学生的语言水平要求高。本科教育要学大量的课程，同学间交流也更频繁，更广泛，如果没有良好的英语语言基础是很难适应美国的学习和生活的。美国一般学校对托福的要求大概在80-90之间。如果是名校的话，应该在100以上。

SAT为Scholastic Assessment Test的缩写，是美国高中生进入美国大学所必须参加的考试，其重要性相当于中国的高考，也是世界各国高中生申请进入美国名校学习能否被录取及能否得到奖学金的重要参考，也有的同学会选择ACT，具体考哪个，哪个更有利，因人而异，不再展开。

第二步：准备申请材料

有了TOEFL或IELTS 和SAT成绩，申请者只是具备了申请美国大学本科入学许可和奖学金的一个基本条件。

为了完成申请，申请者还需要提交下列材料：

(1) 高中学习成绩(GPA)

申请者一般需要向所申请的大学提供高中的成绩单，要有中、英文两份，各自加盖学校的公章。高中成绩一般平均分在80分以上，对申请者来说就够用了。美国的学习成绩一般按照满分4.0折算，中国学生需要提供学校出具的原始成绩单即可。

(2) 推荐信

申请者一般需要提供3封英文的推荐信。也有的学校只要求提供2封即可。根据中国学生的实际情况，可以找班主任、年级组长或校领导来写，最好能够拿到校长的推荐信。但这2-3个推荐人都必须和申请者之间确实有过联系。

(5) 个人简历

个人简历是申请奖学金资助中必不可少的一项材料。申请大学入学与奖学金资助，要准备一份合适的个人简历。个人简历就好像一个人的经历提纲一样，使审阅人很快对申请人有一个认识的框架，然后会根据推荐信、读书计划以及其他材料再进一步了解申请人各方面具体情况。个人简历的最大特点就是有很强的针对性，一个人可以根据不同的需要和申请目的有十几份甚至几十份不同的简历，申请奖学金资助的个人简历就要专门为申请奖学金资助来写，包括一切有利于申请奖学金的各项内容。

(6) 其他证明材料

填写录取申请表时应按照情况填写，其中“获得各种荣誉及奖励”一栏与“工作经验”一栏要尽可能写得齐全。在填写内容上应尽量把有利于自己申请奖学金资助的各种经历和奖励都填写上，必要时还应附上一些证明性文件的复印件，增强其说服力。奖学金资助申请表有很多种，不同类型的奖学金资助会有不同的表格需要填写，但其内容大致与录取申请表相同。有的学校要求奖学金资助的专门推荐信，这些材料都应准备好。

第三步：网上提交材料和成绩。

第四步：和学校联络，看是否需要补充材料。

学校在审查学生材料之时，有可能会让学生提供其他的一部分材料，因此要注意多向学校询问自己的录取情况，一方面能够让学校知道自己是很重视这个学校，另一方面也能够防范万一学校审查的过程中由于一些原因而导致你提交的部分材料丢失，而无人通知你补充提交或寄送。

第五步：学校是否需要面试

第六步：等待录取，索要I-20

此时，当你收到某几所大学的录取通知书之后，当决定哪一所学校后，提交I-20申请表、电子版录取通知书、护照首页复印件、、电子版存款证明、个别学校也许会要求付一定的押金。完成这一系列的网上提申请后，学校会通过快递寄来签I-20。

Two scenes stand out in my mind from my visit to Brazil’s Wetland: Forests burning before seed planting and trees as hedgerows. Before the planting season, I could see the leafless remnants of burnt trees still standing. The burning of pristine forests destroys both the habitats and countless species which depend on and thrive in these habitats. The few remaining bare, scarred trees silently convey the cost to our natural resources of pursuing our economic interests. Some forests are preserved by government edict issued in response to international pressure. But most of this preservation occurs alongside major roads — not to protect the ecosystem, but to prevent disturbance to ranches and farms along the highways. The clash between economic and environmental concerns that I witnessed in Brazil fascinates me and attracts me to the Environmental Studies Program.

Two courses in my geography department increased my interest in the connection between the environment and economics: Conservation of Underdeveloped Countries and Environmental Impact Analysis. In the former, we studied the problems of natural resource management in developing countries. The balance is always tilted toward economics growth at the expense of environmental preservation. For example, because the Pantanal Wetland could become a highly productive agricultural system once it’s drained, it is drained regardless of the destruction that drainage causes to the ecosystem. Only portions of the wetland are preserved for tourist purposes.

The other course that piqued my interest is an interdisciplinary course called Environmental Impact Analysis in which we, as a group, created matrix and flow diagrams discussing the economic and environmental impact of logging and preservation of old growth forests. I was able to use tools that I acquired in my economics and environmental studies classes. In general, logging creates economic benefits at the local level. It increases employment in the timber industry and subsequently in related non-timber industries; it also benefits local government. Yet, it has great deleterious environmental effects: soil erosion, watershed destruction, and a decrease in specie diversity due to loss of habitat. The logging industry represents the classic clash between economic and environmental interests.

I also took two sequential classes in the economics department that are related to Resource Management — Theories of Growth & Development and Policies for Economic Development. Because the courses were taught by a professor who is concerned chiefly with economic growth, I learned the standard economic rationalizations for development unrestrained by environmental concerns.

In addition to my interest in resource management policies, I have a specific interest in Geographical Information System (GIS), a powerful tool for natural resource management. After taking several related classes in GIS, I began interning for the National Park Service (NPS). After I learn how to use ARC/INFO, a leading GIS package, I will assist the NPS in constructing projects. Some of my duties include spatial and non-spatial data analysis, digitizing themes such as fire locations, vegetation, wildlife habitats, etc., and tabular and graphical presentation of results. I hope to use the tools I acquire during this internship in my continuing study of our environment.

I would like to study the social and economic factors that influence environmental policy formation. For example, because people worry more about pollution than endangered species, laws and regulations concerning environmental pollution are more numerous and stricter than for bio-diversity. Within the School of Environmental Studies, I have a particular interest in the emphasis: Economics, Policy, and Management. This emphasis deals with how economic factors can create negative externalities, such as pollution, and need to be regulated. This emphasis also tries to consider non-economic values, such as aesthetic pleasure and specie diversity. It also discusses tools like GIS and system analysis that apply to environmental management. Because of my interest in GIS, economics, and environmental studies, this emphasis suits me perfectly. Furthermore, the interdisciplinary approach of the School of Environmental Studies attracts me since it combines social science’s strengths with a knowledge of the natural sciences necessary to protect and preserve the environment.

After completing my masters program, I would like to continue my education and obtain a Ph.D. in natural resource management. This degree would enable me to combine a teaching career with advising business and government on natural resource management issues. Teaching college students is more than a one-way channel; I would also learn from their questions like my professors have from mine. In advising business and government, I can help them strike a balance between economic and environmental concerns. GIS will be a useful tool in helping me give them crucial information.

I have enjoyed an interdisciplinary approach in my environmental studies major and become fascinated by the clash between social interests, especially economics, and environmental needs. I pursued an additional major in economics to better understand this conflict. Furthermore, my work for the NPS will train me in the latest techniques in natural resource management. I would like to continue exploring this clash and resource management in the School of Environmental Studies. Ultimately, I would like to teach and work in natural resource management. Ideally, I would like to find ways for allowing development while preventing the burning of beautiful and valuable eco-systems like the Pantanal Wetland.

My most important aim for the next few years is to further my studies of History. Studying the subject at GCSE and A Level has extended my interest in Social and European History, and how this relates to world History. The subject has enhanced my understanding and interest of current affairs and contemporary issues, which I enjoy following closely. As a student of History, I aim to extend my analytical and presentational skills. Once given an area to study, I like to research independently, but also working with others. My time at Sixth Form College has enabled me to improve my reliability, punctuality and ability to work individually, while coping with the demands of exams and deadlines. The AS levels I selected; English, Geography, History and Politics complemented each other well, enabling me to use the knowledge of one subject to develop my understanding of another. They have also extended my abilities in research, essay and report writing. My AS results proved pleasing, after analysing my results, they have given me realistic targets for the year ahead. I have evaluated my progress of my first year in order to find weaknesses in exam and study technique and I am working on these for a hopefully successful outcome for the years ahead.

In addition to my academic studies, I have achieved qualifications in first aid, and I feel confident to administer first aid in unlikely situations. Over the past two years, I have helped with a youth holiday scheme connected with my Church where I had responsibility for looking after and helping children. In my spare time, I enjoy reading non-fiction books, and travelling to see many parts of the country. My Duke of Edinburgh award scheme enabled me to deal effectively with decision making within a group.

一、资格限制高

A close relative of mine fought cancer for two years. I was much younger then, and did not understand why the doctors only wanted to “make her comfortable”, but now I do; and that is partly why I want to become a physician myself: not only to work on cures for various diseases but also to make ill people feel better, because, though I admire research, I first and foremost see myself as a practising physician. Also, I have been fascinated with babies and pregnant women ever since a child, so fascinated in fact that for two years running I insisted every morning on my mother telling me the story of my birth. From an early age on, then, this interest has led me gain a fair amount of knowledge on the human body and how it works.

I joined the Scouts when I was six years old, and continued with them for five years. During that time, I received a First-Aid badge and was nominated “Guide” of my group, which meant that I had to lead the way during orientation tests and hikes. These made me develop leadership, communication and organisational skills that I have used and valued ever since. More recently, I tried to volunteer at a local hospital, but the Portuguese NHS only accepts helpers over 18 years old. Instead, therefore, I volunteered at the Lisbon Zoo every weekend from December through April . This experience has taught me to deal with unexpected situations, because visitors were directed to me whenever they had a question and because I met new people every week, as the volunteer body was constantly changing. Physical welfare is very important for me, and sports play a big role in my life. I gained work experience in August 2007. I went for a holiday to Sri Lanka and I did volunteering work at the Coconut Research Institute. Previously in my school I achieved a first aid certificate from the Red Cross in Birmingham along with a certificate from Dr. Patricia Houlston for getting involved in a lecture about experiencing the inner city life of a GP in Birmingham. This lecture was very useful because I learnt how professionals work and communicate in a clinical working environment. I was also involved in a role - play by pretending to be GP and communicating with a patient and doing this enhanced my communication skills. I'm a forward thinking and determined person. I plan to obtain high level degree in order to continue to an MSc degree.

美国留学要准备的考试

一、美国SAT考试

I wish to combine these two passions and follow my ambition to become a journalist by continuing my studies into Higher Education. It is well known that power attracts and I, like many others, have become enchanted by the power of the written and spoken word. This fascination has created a deep interest in writing, and Journalism provides the perfect outlet to develop my skills.

Ive heard enough about the media industry to realise that experience is everything, and as Sixth Form Reporter on the College committee, I gain regular experience of journalistic writing and meeting deadlines. I have written for the official college Network, which is sent home to parents, and the Student Newspaper.

When selecting my A Level subjects, I seemed drawn to essay based courses. I enjoy writing and the courses undoubtedly helped my writing skills. However, I was required to make the opening of a film in Media, which was an experience to say the least! It increased my interest in Broadcast Journalism. Until that moment, I only had eyes for Print. Creative writing has always been one of my favourite aspects of English, and the coursework gave me the chance to write in whichever style I chose, one piece was a newspaper feature on Chelsea Football Club. I have always been interested in Sports Writing and Im considering specialising in it at a later date. I have chosen to continue four of my five AS Levels onto A2, even though it was not necessary. I have always found Psychology quite challenging as it involves deep levels of critical analysis, so I decided to carry on as I find it extremely intriguing. The different theories as to why humans do the things they do, attract me because I am interested in how people act, though one could hardly call me an anthropologist! My main priorities are English, Media and Sociology as I feel they will aid me most in my ambition, although I still find Psychology a fascinating subject.

I have often said that nothing is impossible, yet asking me to name my favourite book is asking too much. Some much-loved literature includes The Hobbit, Gone With The Wind, and Jane Eyre. In my opinion a good novel should evoke a variety of emotions from beginning to end. Music may not be my first love, but it is definitely one of my passions; I have high passes in grade 3 flute, singing, and grade 5 piano. Like my literary tastes, my choice of music is eclectic; I like anything from hip-hop to classical, soul to rock, and past to present. I also love Black history, musicals, and icons of film and music, such as Audrey Hepburn, John Lennon, and Sinatra. Lennon once said, We all want to change the world, I empathise with this view and seek to achieve it using my chosen profession and the power of the media.
