上课的时候强调过的,如果同学们对写作一头雾水,首先要训练的两项内功和意识就是有关观点和现象,或者说表象和实质,或者说是具体和抽象,或者说是演绎和归纳,或者说色和空。今天我们着重锻炼这个层面中的一个――各种观点的表达。

【认知】

今天我们的选段来自于考研英语第四篇阅读理解的第一段。大爱这一篇文章的写法,不过由于时间关系,我们还是只呈现其中一段好了。

It’s no surprise that Jennifer Senior’s insightful, provocative magazine cover story, “I love My Children, I Hate My Life,” is arousing much chatter C nothing gets people talking like the suggestion that child rearing is anything less than a completely fulfilling, life-enriching experience. Rather than concluding that children make parents either happy or miserable, Senior suggests we need to redefine happiness: instead of thinking of it as something that can be measured by moment-to-moment joy, we should consider being happy as a past-tense condition. 昨天讲过,在分解的过程当中,我们首先考虑的是大处着眼,从宏观到微观,所以在分析段落的过程当中,我们首先能看到的是段落当中的一些关键字。何为关键字?简而言之,就是你能看懂并且认为重要的字。如果你仍然认为干扰太多,结构太复杂,就去寻找这个文章和段落的观点以及立场。

第一句话里面it is no surprise只是作为一个语气类的引入,对句子的正负没有任何影响。于是主干出现了cover story is arousing much chatter。后面的破折号一般表示解释,所以可以暂时不看。大概意思大家应该明白,就是引起了讨论,只是chatter在这里不是那么正面的色彩,所以翻译成“口水仗”。绿色的.rather than后面可以略过,看逗号后红色的部分,我们大概明白了这个story的作者的态度--我们应该重新定义幸福或快乐。冒号后面是解释,可以暂时不看。如果硬要看,可以看红色的部分。看到Even though,知道重点在后面,于是挑出主干,红色的部分大家可以尝试阅读。

整个段落的大致结构已经出现:

1 故事引发讨论+解释

2 反观点+正观点(注意:这里不是罗列反观点,而是用反观点衬托作者Senior的正观点)

3 进一步细化反观点的衬托+进一步细化正观点

这个是正反观点的一种写法变体,大家好好模仿吧。恳请各位同学不要再写some people believe...others believe...I believe...了……求你们了!中国烂模板害死人不偿命啊!

我们来看看具体的句子,结合我们前面所提到的相关句型仿写的写法,我们逐一分析。

It is no surprising that xx is arousing much chatter.

除了用it is no surprsing that...后面接一个观点或者现象,还可以用it is not uncommong/unusual等相关的写法。这个句子比较简单,所以不赘述了。

nothing gets people talking like the suggestion that child rearing is anything less than a completely fulfilling, life-enriching experience.

我们看到另一种表达最高级的方式,如同nobody moved so fast like he did. 大家很容易看出来,意思就是he moved faster than anyone else. 所以这个句子中the suggestion加上后面的同位语从句,成了使得大家热烈讨论的导火线。用这样的方式写句子,除了更好的表达最高级,还可以在结尾的名词处多出一个同位语从句,一举两得的。

在看句子里面,A is anything less than B,如果不熟悉anything less than就是by no means或者not at all的意思,我们可以推理出,anything就是任何事物,less than是小于号,也就是倾其所有也达不到的感觉,自然是否定的。顺便提一下,两个形容词修饰名词的情况,这个上课讲过,但是这里,出现了副词修饰形容词A,加上合成形容词B的方法。如果暂时学不会,可以不用勉强。

rather than doing A, 加上主句。这个仿写比较容易,注意一下suggest和前文的suggestion,都是揭示,暗示的意思,具体的原因可以通过后面句子的时态看出。

再次强调,instead of 不要理解为“代替”,求你们了,它的本质含义就和rather than类似,理解成“而不是”。可怜的同学们肯定是因为背了单词书的英文和中文直接对应,忽略了它的语境,再次大声疾呼,一个词汇和短语的意思要在句子中才能体现出真正含义啊!!对了,注意Instead of doing A,后年有定语从句,这样也就不会和前面的rather than显得重复。这就是有变化的重复的另外一种变体,绝对不是只把important换成significant那么简单。

简单的让步状语从句,即使……也……稍微注意一下那个hard前面的合成副词,大家应该还记得我上课说过,能把副词用到极致的人,是高手,这里的soul-crushingly hard就是很好的例证,不过我忍不住问一句,为什么这里的hard不变成difficult呢?

在这一段当中,字数已经达到了171个字,同学们在写作文的时候,肯定没有必要写那么多,不过正如上课所讲的,如果你要练习一千米长跑,我们平时训练的时候一般都会多跑几百米,所以,如果这里字数超出考研作文要求,那是因为文章整体字数也超出了很多,所以按照适当比例,我们可以推断出,如果文章写5段,4段,3段,分别每段在多少字为宜,这里不赘述。除了句型,今天要解析的重点就是背景介绍的逻辑和模式,这也是我们十种论证方式当中的第四种(关于数据逻辑的方式大家可以去微博看相关视频,上课有讲到)。

我们很容易看到,同样是讲到成为热点话题,用到了talk,类似于我们原来接触过的焦点“attention”或者“focus”等的表达。当然,xx has been the talk也基本类似于xx has become the heated topic或者xx has been under heated discussion或者xx has become the public attention或者xx has become the focus of differnet social groups。

值得学习的是,我们原来写完这一句就结束了,后面的时间ever since加上名词,表达相应的时间或者状态,可以很好地延展句型,同时也可以将套话和具体事件结合起来。还有一点需要注意,就是decision后面的两个修饰,一个是关于要做某事,一个是关于decision的发出者,这些都是使得句子变得相对复杂的包装。

今天选择的是20考研阅读的第三篇的第三段。

我们今天只分析第一句,当一句话当中的语言点比较多的时候,我们采取的是从宏观到微观的方式,这样的话,不会漏掉语言点,也不会显得凌乱。每个复杂句子的构成就和我们做图画一样,是一层一层坐上去的,所以读的时候自然需要耐心,不能操之过急。不过分解的过程如果比较慢,合成的过程就会比较快了。道理和上下坡是一样的,能量守恒,RP守恒,whatever you name it.

在读到这个句子的时候,同学们的第一步应该是梳理主干,所以主谓宾应该是第一位的。顺便提及一下,有同学写信来问到,在听力的时候如何很好地区分主干,答案是:一般主语后面有从句或者修饰成分,在念的过程当中,会在成分和从句结束之后以及谓语动词到来之前有停顿,尽管不是所有的停顿后面都是谓语动词,不过既然知道了停顿的特点,找起来就容易很多了。我们来看这一句。

相信,如果是the same dramatic technological changes have also increased the risk这样对的句子没有同学会觉得痛苦的(当然,如果非常吃力,可以把句子再缩略呈the changes have also increased the risk),同学们很容易就联想到了,在不用从句修饰的情况下,句型升级的方法也仍然有很多,其中第一种我上课讲到的就是名词动词形容词前后的修饰,这里无疑,在changes的前面加上了technological表示属性,dramatic表示规模,初中的.时候好像学过一个语法,关于名词前面一连串的形容词应该怎么排序,大家不用特别担心,一般写作的时候,能够在同一个名词前面加上三个形容词就已经是极品了,加上5个以上的就属于极品中的极品。所以我们不必担心,只需要比较几个形容词谁更接近名词的内涵就好。这里值得一提的是dramatic,很多人一谈到变化就用到great,然后经过老师指正后,会用到tremendous 或者enormous。后来又背过一个和dramatic很形近的单词drastic。这些词语当中,只有dramatic最为鲜活的体现出了像电视剧电影一般的变化。几十年前我们认为神仙能够做到的天眼通天耳通等神通,或者认为只能出现在电视剧电影当中的变化,在现今的科技下,几乎都能够实现。所以这个词,往深了去,就是我们所说的画面感生动形象和贴切的意境,往浅了讲,也是高频语言习惯。

定语从句我上课讲的很清楚了,这里就不赘述,至于为什么要在more后面加上括号,我简单说一下。去掉括号就发现变成了more and more diverse communications chloices,很容易理解为“越来越多”多元化的选择,而作者的意思是更多数量且类型的选择,所以为了区分开,就用了括号。

后面的同位语从句,这个是上课讲过的,上一篇讲过的不要随便去自己造,我们可以通过复述和仿写的方式,慢慢增强同位语从句在我们语言习惯当中的分量,久而久之,自然就会写出地道的句子。从句当中首先要提到的是VOICE their opinion(关于passionate在这里的用法,暂时不讲,因为需要更高的功力才能写出这样的形容词修饰consumers)。典型的名词动词化加上小词妙用,想想我们说“表达观点”时,一般会怎么说?show one's opinion, express one's opionion, present one's opinion?小词的画面感和冲击力是不同凡响的。再看后面的in xxxx ways。上课讲的是in a .....way或者in a ....manner/fashion(其实大家一定能够超越这个句子的,因为你们可以写出in such a manner that……只是这句里面已经有一个从句了,再套从句会显得冗长)。再来看三个形容词,都是用的比较级,但是明显看得出,在文法上想体现出我们上课时候所讲的并列递进结构,而三个里面明显最核心的是最后那一个。顺便说一下,传说老外和中国人不一样,中国人喜欢压轴,把最核心的放在最后面,老外喜欢开门见山,有话直说。其实真的是我们很大程度上的误读。充其量也就是老外喜欢从宏观慢慢进入核心(google earth搜索模式),而中国人喜欢螺旋式(其实,也是慢慢进入核心,只是在螺旋的过程中看到的景象,会让人觉得有些缺乏显性逻辑联系。)

【应用】

刚才说过了,如果解读起来比较痛苦,那么整合起来比较容易的,我们首先要做的就是仿写主句。而变化无处不在,而任何变化都有风险,更何况是如此巨大的变化。所以基本上这个句子不用怎么变。The same dramatic technological changes have also increased the risk. 下一步要做的就是什么样的风险,比如年轻人被这些变化从现实生活当中异化,句子变成The same dramatic technological changes have also increased the risk that teenagers have been pulled away from real life in quicker, more visible and much more direct ways. 后面可以再写三个例子,证明如何快速,如何显性,如何直接。

关于加入定语从句,应该不难了,事实上也是给他们更多的选择导致的结果,所以可以照抄就好。

真正的难点在这里,上课时候讲过,如果你可以让别人随便说一个话题或者一句话,然后轻易地用指定的句型结构表达出来,就算是学有所成了。这里我来出题,大家可以尝试写写,只要和“荣誉”有关的句子就行。提示:先按照句子的主干造出主谓宾,然后写成英文,然后再添加相关成分进行修改。PS:所有的中国人(在国外生长大的孩子和四岁半以前去国外的孩子除外)学外语的过程当中,都必经这个翻译过程,也就是中文转换成英文过程,只是有的人速度很快,我们看不出来。还是那句话,不是他比你牛,是他比你熟。大家加油。

A 我们又一次看到了和昨天一样亲切的the decision to do sth的表达,呵呵,不知道是不是巧合?亦或者是不同作者相同的写作思维模式?值得一提的是,今天的语言点里面变成了the decision to do A to do B,里面涉及到了决定的目的,已经这个目的背后的目的,这个可以称之为二次推理。除了在语言点上给我们启发以外,更多的是希望提醒大家,我们做事情的时候,要有进一步思考的意识,在分析别人的动机的背后,也许还需要分析更深一层的动机。如同决定考研的同学的动机绝对不是因为别人都考研了所以你也考研,需要更深层次的思考,当然,也不能出现这样的循环,考研是为了有个好工作,有个好工作是为了有个好家庭,然后生个好孩子,再让他考研。

B 还有一点需要注意,就是那个unconvertional,是同学们一般不会想到要用的词汇。这一句就是我们上课时候所讲的Topic sentence.

A 这句话就是我们上课时候所讲到的developing sentence。它的目的是支撑和解释第一句话的, 为什么这个人的决定是不合常理的?因为这么多年了猎头找的CEO都是在任的,而不是请辞的那些人。虽然这里没有用到大家老生常谈的becasue, as, for,但是仍然是有个因果联系的(特别提醒,句首的for,是和years连接在一起的,表示很多年了,不是表达原因的连词啊)。

B 大家应该能够读懂adhere to the rules是什么意思,一边拿我们会在rules前面加上不成文的规定--unwritten rules或者看不见的规则hidden rules,后面的that后面就是我们常说的同位语从句,上课时候说过,不要自己坐在那里想同位语从句,阅读文章里面多的是,随便拈一个考试就够用了。这个句子应该比较好仿写吧,毕竟我们遵循的规则还是很多的。

C 大家可以想想看,这里为什么不直接说the most attractive CEOs must be poached而非要用the most attractive CEOs are the ooes who...这样讲话或者行文可以达到先引起对方的'注意,然后再说重点内容,信息能够有效传递的效果,比如中文讲:“天气预报是这样一档节目。”听众的注意力会被提起来,并且猜想后文,然后再给出下文,“一直以来它都竭尽全力说真话,但是尝试一次,就几乎失败一次。”这样的处理,听众或者读者满足了预期,说话者或者笔者收获了关注。

A 这个虽然是引语,不过在这个段落里面,充当了例证的角色,完全符合我们课堂上面所讲授的观点句,支撑句,例证的写法结构。稍微注意一下这个双重否定(注意我上课讲过的双重否定的功效绝对不是加强语气,而是为了展示炫技,当然在阅读理解里面,它还有一个绕晕考生的功效)。

B 值得注意的是,在考研作文当中,我们一般少用i,所以,这个地方的i can't think of。。。可以改成客观的评述,比如 it would be wildly impossible to think of 等。

c 在a single search的后面出现了两个定于从句,一个是修饰search的特征,一个是描述search里面的内涵,那个where自然等于in which。

【应用】

思想:给出观点,分析原因,给出事例。

结构:重新审视这些句型结构。

只要是观点,就一定能够推理出前因后果,只要是观点,就能够找到适当的例子,大家可以尝试年考研涉及到旅游和环境的话题,给出自己的观点,然后分析原因,然后给出一个新的事例。

3) 表示递进

针对考研英语作文的要求和特点,可以概括的得出一个总体法则:高分作文=打牢基础+妙用技巧

(一)打牢基础应从以下几方面着手:

1.首先要客观而清晰的对自己现阶段的真实英语水平有一个认知,以便能对症下药并合理的进行复习。

如果自己的英语基础十分薄弱,首先要攻克构成写作根基的单词和语法,从现在起至八月底必须拿下考研大纲词汇,对大纲词汇必须做到见到就能准确联系到其释义,而对其中的高频写作词汇更要做到熟练拼写,准确运用,当然在记忆单词时不能只孤立的记忆单词的汉语意思还要去消化吸收一些单词后给出的例句,以此达到通过例句巩固对单词的记忆并掌握怎样在语境中去运用单词;同时,如果对英语的遣词造句感到无从下手,这说明自己的语法知识比较欠缺,从现在起到8月底同时需要去找一本条理清楚,简单易懂的语法书进行学习,在看语法书时,侧重理解语法规则,关键消化每种语法规则对应的例句,最有效的方法是看到相应汉语例句,自己动手把它翻译成英文,在对照给出的英文找出差距;如果自己的语法基础还行,尤其是那些已经通过了大英六级的考生,可直接参照执行以下提供的复习计划,当然那些基础较薄弱的考生经过一段时间的强化复习后,也可借鉴这一复习计划:

每每课间游走于教室时,总能见勤勉刻苦的同学会努力的在每一个他们不认识单词的上方标出汉语意思,字迹工整,详实丰富。这可谓之正确的做事。但是每次我都会告诫同学们以后切不可如此,因为这样的标注会使自己下次复习的时,视线呈波浪状起伏,阅读到认识的单词时视线是平的,到不认识处,视线自然上升。这样其实不是在阅读英文而是在阅读中文,以后再看到满页的英文时还是会觉得恐惧。阅读的能力依然很难提高。所以我们虽然在正确的做事,却没有做正确的事。下面跨考教育英语教研室靳姝老师来谈谈再接下来90多天英语阅读应该怎么复习和最后提高成绩。

1.对题目进行分析

很多考生,包括英语实力比较强的部分考生,没有给予题目及选项足够的关注。他们认为英语水平够了就可以在考研(微博)中获得不错的成绩。诚然,英语基础和实力是考研成败的重要因素,然而考研英语从某种程度上说,就是用英语包装的了一种思维方式的考察。如果说在前期大家都是在做知识性储备的话,那么到了后半期,大家水平和实力相当的情况下,就是看谁更能够把自己的解题思路不断靠到考研命题专家的思路上去。因此,考研准备的过程,也就是把自己的思路不断贴近命题专家的思路的一个过程。

2. 做题要进行错误分析

许多考生在最后的冲刺阶段都会花大量的时间和精力去做许多模拟试卷。这种复习方法不仅耗时耗力,事倍功半,而且甚至会因为模拟题的仿真程度不够好,导致自己的做题思路发生偏差。因此,即便是在最后的阶段,建议同学们也不要大量做题,而是应该保证做题的效率和成效。模拟题可以做,但是量不要太大,否则就会陷入题海之中不能自拔。一般程度的同学一周做一套模拟题足矣,而且应该注意自己的英文实力应该和做题数量呈正比,自觉水平高的同学,做题的量可以大一些,而如果到目前为止感觉基本大纲词汇和真题还没有完全吃透的同学,模拟题可以少做甚至不做。在做模拟题的时候,很多考生会对题目只停留在一个简单的对答案的程度上,这是远远不够的。既然我们花了时间和精力来做模拟题,就应该在投入点时间把它们彻底的研究透彻。在这里,向同学们建议至少要进行一下错误分析,即把所有做错的题目挑选出来,进行分类整理研究,找出自己错误的原因,并进行改正。这样才能真正做到有的放矢,有针对性地进行冲刺。

在复习阶段,大家要花大力气做的一个工作,就是对每个题,每个选项认真揣摩和分析。为什么对,为什么错。对的选项是以一种什么方式设置出来的,错误的选项到底具有什么特征,跟我们设置了什么陷阱。在这样不断的分析的过程中,我们会慢慢把自己解题的错误思路一个个堵住,最后只剩下了正确的思路和答案。这就是我们说的,复习到最后的境界:文章看完后,看题目和选项的时候,就发现正确答案在眼前“闪闪发光”。

3. 提高阅读速度

就考研英语的阅读题来说,一定要千方百计给自己留出充裕的时间,每篇材料精读两遍,理解上一定不会有什么大的偏差。所以说,最后准备时间,你一定要意识到速度是至关重要的。如果你注意力高度集中而且读得快,在相同的时间里,就能比别人多读一遍,有更深一分理解,答题的准确率也就大大提高了。

那么怎样提高阅读速度呢?必须锻炼出自己一目十行的习惯和速度来。当然这必须是在读懂70-80%关键信息的基础上!!我们在练习的时候,必须给自己规定一定的时间,有紧迫感,模拟考场环境,给自己一个安静的环境,每天一套模拟题,按照前面建议的方法,精神高度集中。争取每个篇章你都可以精读两遍!对历年考研英语上线及合格分数的统计表明,只要在阅读部分你拿到了一个中等偏上的分数,那英语总分最终才可以在及格线之上。
