一、抓住动作，让人物站起来

老舍曾说，只有描写行动，人物才能够站起来。动作的确是透视人物的多棱镜。动作描写，尤其是凝聚人物个性的细微动作，往往是个性化人物的特有标志。如在《小嘎子与胖墩儿比赛摔跤》中，“小嘎子在家里跟人摔跤，一向仗着手疾眼快，从不单凭力气，自然不跟他一叉一楼。”“起初，小嘎子精神抖擞，欺负对手傻大黑粗，动转不灵，围着他猴儿似的蹦来蹦去，总想使巧招，下冷绊子，仿佛很占了上风。”在这些描写中，作者对小嘎子摔跤时的动作描写极为细致。作者用了“站、围、蹦、转、揪、推、拉、拽、顶、扳”等表示动作的词语，从不同的方面对小嘎子的摔跤动作进行了细致描绘。在这当中，还夹杂着对嘎子心理活动的描写，比如，“欺负对手傻大黑粗，动转不灵，围着他猴儿似的蹦来蹦去，总想使巧招，下冷绊子”“小嘎子已有些沉不住气，刚想用脚去勾他的腿”，这些描写从另一个侧面丰富了人物性格。动词的准确运用和心理活动的细致刻画，塑造了小嘎子这个儿童形象，显示出作者在人物刻画上的功力。

二、注重肖像，突出人物性格

肖像描写又分为外貌描写和神态描写。

外貌描写是通过对容貌、神情、姿态、服饰、音调的描写，来揭示人物性格的一种描写方法；而神态描写与外貌描写是有区别的，神态描写是对人的面部表情进行刻画，可以突出人物的性格特征。如在《“凤辣子”初见林黛玉》当中写到：“（王熙凤）这个人打扮与众姑娘不同，彩绣辉煌，恍若神妃仙子：头上戴着金丝八宝攒珠髻，绾着朝阳五凤挂珠钗；项上带着赤金盘螭璎珞圈；裙边系着豆绿宫绦，双衡比目玫瑰佩；身上穿着缕金百蝶穿花大红洋缎窄*袄，外罩五彩刻丝石青银鼠褂；下着翡翠撒花洋绉裙。一双丹凤三角眼，两弯柳叶哨梢眉，身量苗条，体格风骚，粉面含春威不露，丹唇未启笑先闻。”作品具体细腻地刻画了王熙凤的容貌，在服饰方面，选取头饰、裙饰和服饰三个要点，极力铺陈王熙凤集珍珠宝玉于一身的妆扮，既使读者看出了一位贵族少妇的尊贵，也在珠光宝气之中露出了她的俗气；在容貌方面，则着重写她的那一双“三角眼”，两弯“吊梢眉”，含威不露的“粉面”，未启先笑的“丹唇”，表现她美丽的外表下隐藏着刁钻和狡黠。王熙凤的内心世界。

在《临死前的严监生》当中，“严监生喉咙里痰响得一进一出，一声不倒一声的，总不得断气，还把手从被单里拿出来，伸着两个指头。”的神态描写更是绝妙，这是一段绝妙的描写，严监生临死时，总是断不了气，却一个劲地伸出两个指头，这两个指头是什么意思呢?这一令人难以捉摸的动作给众人造成了一个难以破解的谜，最后由赵氏把谜底揭出来。原来他是看到灯盏里点着两茎灯草，怕费油。多烧一茎灯草，竟会使一个行将就木的人耿耿于怀，放心不下，难以断气，这种经过艺术夸张的描写，活生生地刻画出了一个吝啬鬼的形象。这种如同素描一般的细节描写，把严监生的特点淋漓尽致、入木三分地表现出来，给读者留下了深刻的印象。

三、个性化语言，表现人物特点

语言描写是通过人物的个性化的独白（自言自语）或对话（与别人交谈）来表现刻画人物性格的一种描写方法。

语言描写是塑造人物形象的重要手段。成功的语言描写总是鲜明地展示人物的性格，生动地表现人物的思想感情，深刻地反映人物的内心世界，使读者“如闻其声，如见其人”，获得深刻的印象。

“言为心声”，不同思想，不同经历，不同地位，不同性格的人，其语言也是不同的。鲁迅曾说过：“如果删掉了不必要之点，只摘出各人的有特色的谈话来，我想，就可以使别人从谈话里推见每个说话的人物。”能够让读者从“各人有特色的谈话”中来“推见每个说话人”，这便是成功的语言描写。在本篇课文《“凤辣子”初见林黛玉》中，未见其人，先闻其声：“我来迟了，不曾迎接远客”王熙凤的一句“我来迟了”，似给人爽朗、热情的感觉，然在贾府这个封建的大家族里，规矩礼仪是极严的。贾母是这个家族里至高无上的人物。在贾母面前，连邢、王二夫人都要敛声屏气、毕恭毕敬，何况孙子媳妇王熙凤，但王熙凤就有这样的特权。故一句话，就把王熙凤性格中重要的一个方面：张狂放肆，表现了出来；同时还可以看出她在贾府里的特殊地位。“天下真有这样标致的人物!我今儿才算见了!况且这通身的气派，竟不像老祖宗的外孙女儿，竟是个嫡亲的孙女，怨不得老祖宗天天口头心头，一时不忘。”一句，更是写出了王熙凤逢场作戏，善于阿谀奉承，做表面文章，明为称赞林黛玉，暗里投合贾母的心意。这是极富个性化的语言。

四、刻画心理，让人物活起来

法国作家雨果说过：“有一种比海更大的景象，是天空；还有一种比天空更大的景象，那就是人的内心世界。”描写人物的思想活动，能反映人物的性格，展示人物的内心世界。所以，心理描写也是刻画人物思想性格的重要手段之一。如在《小嘎子和胖墩儿比赛摔跤》中，对小嘎子的心理描写，“欺负对手傻大黑粗，动转不灵，围着他猴儿似的蹦来蹦去，总想使巧招，下冷绊子”“小嘎子已有些沉不住气，刚想用脚去勾他的腿”，这些描写从另一个侧面丰富了人物性格，使作者笔下的人物活灵活现。

五、正面描写与侧面描写

按叙述人的表现手法分类，可以将人物描写分为正面描写和侧面描写。正面描写又称直接描写，是对人或环境的直接描述。侧面描写又叫间接描写，是通过对其他人或环境的描写，从侧面烘托所写人物、所写之景从而收到“烘云托月”的效果。

如在《“凤辣子”初见林黛玉》中，通过两个方面的描写，展示了王熙凤的性格特征。未见其人，先闻其声：“我来迟了，不曾迎接远客”以及对王熙凤的肖像描写和王熙凤对林黛玉说的一席话，是对王熙凤的正面描写。林黛玉的思忖、纳闷与贾母对王熙凤的戏谑谈笑的评价，是对王熙凤的侧面描写。

至于林黛玉和贾母对王熙凤的感觉和评价则从侧面很好地配合了正面描写，与那些正面描写共同完成对王熙凤性格特征的刻画。
