?? During extracurricular time, I finished reading The Red And The Black. It was a typical and fundamental European work of criticism and realism which was released in the 19th century. Besides, the book strongly deprecates the impuissance of monarch, noble and the contemptibility of church and bourgeois. Its way of statement is really worth appreciating too.

Julien’s two love experiences were tightly related to the social wind and cloud that time and it was one aspect of class struggle. Julien indeed fell in love with Mrs. de Renal later, but he was only out of a kind of revengeful thought against dignitary at the very beginning. The author Marie-Henri Beyle （January 23, 1783 C March 23, 1842） was better known by his pen name Stendhal. He was a 19th-century French writer. He was known for his acute analysis of his characters' psychology, and he is considered one of the earliest and foremost practitioners of realism in his two novels .The Red and the Black and The Charterhouse of Parma.

The book is divided into 4 parts. Now let me tell you the first part of this famous book.

The small town of Verrieres is located in the hillside. There is a beautiful river called Doubs .There are many wood factories stand on the bank of the river. The mayor is a noble blood man, who is very tall. A full metal hang on his chest. He is about 50 years old. His house is very large. There is the most beautiful garden .His wife is beautiful and rich, but his talent is shortage, “the wit of this man does not go beyond make sure he is paid on the dot whatever is owed to him, and leaving it to the last possible moment to pay back what himself owes ”。

At the same time, Julien becomes more brave, he thought to himself in his heart “I owe it to myself all the time to succeed with this woman, continued my petty vanity. During this term, I have read a novel The Red and the Black. The novel was written by the French writer Stendhal in the 19th century. Marie・Henri Beyle, better known by his pen name Stendha l, was one of the critical realism French writers in the 19th century . The military and theatrical worlds of the First French Empire were a revelation to Beyle. Known for his acute analysis of his characters' psychology and reflection of society, he is considered one of the earliest and foremost practitioners of realism in his two novels Le Rouge et le Noir (The Red and the Black, 1830) and La Chartreuse de Parme (The Charterhouse of Parma, 1839). Stendhal laid down for himself in a diary entry of May 1804:“regard everything I’ve read to date about man as a prediction; believe only what I have seen for myself.
