摘要:本文从基础英语与专业英语的含义入手,明确了两者之间的关系与良好衔接的必要性,通过分析高职院校基础英语与专业英语教学中存在的问题,有针对性地提出几点建议,以期促进两者的衔接与融合。

高等职业教育是我国高等教育的重要组成部分,旨在培养面向生产、建设、服务和管理第一线需要的高技能人才。高职院校的学生除了具备相应的职业技能,还必须具备一定的专业英语能力,如从事涉外酒店、机场、4S店等服务类行业的人员,必须学会用专业术语与人交流;在企业工作的人员能够阅读英文产品说明书,以便机器出现故障时,及时对机器进行检修与维护;从事外贸工作的人员必须学懂学会商务英语,才能更好地参与对外贸易活动。因此,在高职院校的课程设置中,英语是不可或缺的一门公共课。高职英语教学分为基础英语教学和专业英语教学,目的是通过基础英语的教授打好学生语言基础,再通过专业英语的教授提升学生的专业素养。

一、基础英语与专业英语的含义

基础英语,是以讲授基本英语知识为内容的英语课程。通过基础英语的学习,学生能够掌握基本的英语词汇、语法,能进行基本的英文阅读和简单的英语交流活动,其内容较为浅显。专业英语,是根据学习者的特定需求,以未来所从事职业为目的而开设的英语课程。[1]专业英语的教学目的主要是传授与特定专业或学科相关的英语知识和交际技能,使学生熟悉并掌握所学专业的相关术语,能够进行专业资料的阅读、翻译和专业交流。

二、基础英语与专业英语衔接的必要性

高职院校开设专业英语课程的目的是培养学生在职场环境下运用英语的能力,满足相应岗位对于英语能力的要求,强调英语技能的专业性、职业性。因其专业性较强,专业词汇、专业语言等对于学生来说学习难度较大,所以学生普遍缺乏兴趣,教学效果很不理想。因而,对学生基本英语能力的培养就十分必要。基础英语的.内容更加贴近生活,容易理解与接受,趣味性更强。通过基础英语的学习,学生可以掌握基本的英语词汇、语法、语言结构和听说技巧,为将来学习专业英语知识打下良好基础。如果学生没有掌握好基础的英语知识,那么在接触专业英语时就会困难重重,影响专业英语知识和技能的学习。因此,能否做好基础英语向专业英语的衔接与过渡会直接影响到学生的学习兴趣与学习效果。作为教育工作者,我们有必要做好二者的衔接与融合,不能将其割裂开来。

三、基础英语与专业英语衔接中存在的问题

目前,几乎所有高职院校都开设了基础英语和专业英语课程,可见专业英语的重要性已经得到了重视,但高职英语教学的现状并不尽如人意,仍然存在很多问题。

1.观念问题。(1)学生方面:高职院校的学生英语基础普遍很差,工科班的学生高考及格率不足5%,文科班的学生及格率仅为10%左右。学生学习英语时缺乏自信,课堂上不敢开口说英语,课下无法独立完成作业。基础英语情况尚且如此,学生对于专业英语学习的积极性可想而知。(2)教师方面:许多英语教师观念落后,对于专业英语的教学缺乏足够的重视,导致教学随意性强,教学效果不甚理想,进而影响到学生未来的职业发展。

2.教材问题。现行的高职院校基础英语教材以培养学生的基本英语知识为目标,包括听说交际、文章阅读、应用文写作能力等,内容多与日常交流和跨文化交际有关,极少涉及专业英语词汇和知识,没有实现与专业英语教材的良好衔接。而大多数专业英语教材不能与时俱进,前沿性不足,内容滞后;有些教材虽然内容较新,但仅仅是一些国外资料的简单拼凑,缺乏系统性、条理性。专业英语教材因其词汇过于专业、职业,往往内容枯燥、乏味,学生普遍缺乏学习兴趣,积极性、主动性更是无从谈起。

3.教学方法问题。高职院校基础英语的教学大都采用传统的授课方法,以词汇、语法、阅读和听力训练为主,缺乏实用性和针对性,未能形成与专业衔接的英语课程特色。[2]专业英语的教学只注重专业词汇和专业知识的传授,往往忽视了对学生基本英语语言能力的训练,基础英语与专业英语的教学之间存在断层,没有渗透融合,导致学生虽然掌握了一些专业词汇和专业知识,但由于缺乏对基本英语语言能力训练的延续,毕业时仍然不能熟练地使用英语,无法满足岗位需求。

4.教学评价问题。《高职高专教育英语课程教学基本要求》规定:“教学评价包括形成性评价与终结性评价。”根据该规定,目前绝大多数高职院校将学生的成绩分为形成性成绩和最终成绩。在实际的教学评价中,形成性成绩就是所谓的“平时成绩”,教师根据学生一学期的课堂表现进行评价,再加上笔试考试的成绩作为最终成绩。由于笔试成绩在最终的成绩中所占比例较高,学生往往重视笔试成绩而忽视在课堂上的学习与训练。

5.师资问题。目前高职院校专业英语的教学大多由学习英语语言专业的教师负责,绝大多数老师自从大学毕业以来,一直在学校里教书,没有一定的专业实践背景,()对专业知识了解不足,导致教学中对相关专业的英语文章理解不到位,翻译不准确。另外,教师往往只是按照教材进行教学活动,教学方法、教学场所不够灵活,对于相关专业的知识更新不及时,学生所学知识不能与最新的岗位需求相匹配。

四、基础英语与专业英语衔接的几点建议

1.调整教学观念。提高教师对专业英语的重视程度,把专业英语的学习放在与专业课程同等重要的位置。考试题目不再沿用传统的形式与内容,实行教考分离,可以邀请相关行业、企业专家出题对学生进行测试,专业英语不达标将直接影响学生的就业,使教师和学生对专业英语的教与学引起足够重视。

2.改革教材内容。“工欲善其事,必先利其器”,对教材进行改革是完成基础英语与专业英语良好衔接与过渡的首要任务。首先,保证教材的系统性与合理性。可以由基础英语课教师与专业课教师共同完成教材的编写,将专业英语的某些内容加入到基础英语的教材中,使基础英语和专业英语课程内容相互渗透,由浅入深,避免将基础英语和专业英语完全割裂开来。其次,保证教材的前沿性与科学性。高职学生的培养以就业为导向,教材内容应当选用行业最新的研究成果,可以邀请行业专家、企业一线人员参与教材编写,使学生学以致用。再次,保证教材的实用性与趣味性。专业英语教材的难度应适合高职学生的英语实际水平,以实用为原则,难度不宜过大,满足专业英语的一般要求即可;基础英语教材的内容不应再像初中、高中教材那样,以应试教育为目的,重点学习词汇和语法知识,通常包括听力、对话、阅读、练习几大块,而是应该以培养学生的能力和素质为目的,重在培养学生使用英语与人交流和表达的能力。因此,基础英语教材可以添加欧美经典电影片段以及经典英文歌曲欣赏等内容,以提升教材的趣味性,让学生通过反复观看原版电影片段,模仿学习经典台词,掌握地道的英语口语。优美的音乐不仅能让学生安静下来,还可以让学生了解歌曲创作背后动人的故事。通过观看欧美电影及聆听英文歌曲,可以使学生更深刻、更直接地了解欧美文化,进而不断提高学生的沟通能力和文化素养。

3.创新教学方法。(1)基础英语的教学方法应当多样化,如提问、分组讨论、模拟、情境、角色表演、叙述及较前沿的项目化教学方法等。教学中应以学生为中心,充分运用先进的多媒体资源,模拟实际工作场景,让学生自己搜集资料,编排对话,通过不同的角色分工,让学生把枯燥的单词、语法、句型等语言知识以贴近职场生活的形式展现出来,在模拟职场交际中学习英语,提高学生运用英语解决问题的能力。在训练基础英语能力时,不妨将专业英语中较浅显的词汇和知识穿插进来,通过情境交际加强学生对专业词汇及知识的掌握。(2)专业英语的教学则应以项目化教学为主,辅以基本英语语言能力的训练,让学生在用英语处理专业领域实务时能够正确、熟练地进行表达与翻译。如:对导游专业的学生,可以让学生来策划一个涉外旅游项目,从旅游路线的确定,到订机票、车票、旅馆房间,再到旅游景点的介绍,完全用英语完成;对营销专业的学生,可以让学生完成一项业务,从向顾客介绍推销某个产品,到与客户交涉,商谈价格与订单等过程,完全用英语来完成。学生的“学”,不再局限于教室内、课堂上,可以充分享用网络资源带给我们的便利,通过慕课及翻转课堂等多种形式进行学习。

4.改进评价标准。高职英语教学评价应以考察学生英语的实际运用能力为标准,重在评价学生的学习过程。因此可适当调整形成性评价的比重,即平时成绩可占70%,期末考试占30%。平时成绩包括考勤、课堂表现、书面作业,以及课外作业。课外作业的形式可以是景点PPT、产品说明PPT、对话Video、电影配音、话剧表演、旅游策划、产品营销策划及英文歌曲演唱等。

5.强化师资力量。(1)高职院校应尽快培养“双师型”教师,或从企业、公司聘请专业人员到课堂上课,保证高职英语教学的连贯性与专业性。(2)提高教师素质,利用寒暑假对教师进行先进的教学理念、教学方法及教育技术的培训。组织英语教师到行业、企业进行实践,学习研究行业最新的知识,了解行业发展情况,促使教师不断改进教学内容与方法,提高教学水平。

综上所述,要实现高职院校基础英语和专业英语的良好衔接与过渡,还有很多的工作要做。这需要高职院校的领导与教师共同努力,不断探索、创新和实践,使高职英语的教学质量不断提高,从而实现为生产、建设、服务和管理一线培养高技能人才的目标。
