公共英语四级阅读练习题【一】

Few creations of big technology capture the imagination like giant dams. Perhaps it is humankind’s long suffering at the mercy of flood and drought that makes the idea of forcing the waters to do our bidding so fascinating. But to be fascinated is also, sometimes, to be blind. Several giant dam projects threaten to do more harm than good.

The lesson from dams is that big is not always beautiful. It doesn’t help that building a big, powerful dam has become a symbol of achievement for nations and people striving to assert themselves. Egypt’s leadership in the Arab world was cemented by the Aswan High Dam. Turkey’s bid for First World status includes the giant Ataturk Dam.

But big dams tend not to work as intended. The Aswan Dam, for example, stopped the Nile flooding but deprived Egypt of the fertile silt that floods left — all in return for a giant reservoir of disease which is now so full of silt that it barely generates electricity.

And yet, the myth of controlling the waters persists. This week, in the heart of civilized Europe, Slovaks and Hungarians stopped just short of sending in the troops in their contention over a dam on the Danube. The huge complex will probably have all the usual problems of big dams. But Slovakia is bidding for independence from the Czechs, and now needs a dam to prove itself.

Meanwhile, in India, the World Bank has given the go-ahead to the even more wrong-headed Narmada Dam. And the bank has done this even though its advisors say the dam will cause hardship for the powerless and environmental destruction. The benefits are for the powerful, but they are far from guaranteed.

Proper, scientific study of the impacts of dams and of the costs and benefits of controlling water can help to resolve these conflicts. Hydroelectric power and flood control and irrigation are possible without building monster dams. But when you are dealing with myths, it is hard to be either proper, or scientific. It is time that the world learned the lessons of Aswan. You don’t need a dam to be saved.

1. The third sentence of paragraph 1 implies that ____.

A. people would be happy if they shut their eyes to reality

D. fascination makes people lose their eyesight

2. In paragraph 5, “the powerless” probably refers to ____.

A. areas short of electricity B. dams without power stations

C. poor countries around India D. common people in the Narmada Dam area

3. What is the myth concerning giant dams?

A. They bring in more fertile soil. B. They help defend the country.

C. They strengthen international ties. D. They have universal control of the waters.

4. What the author tries to suggest may best be interpreted as ____.

A. “It’s no use crying over spilt milk” B. “More haste, less speed”

C. “Look before you leap” D. “He who laughs last laughs best”

公共英语四级阅读练习题【二】

If ambition is to be well regarded, the rewards of ambition — wealth, distinction, control over one’s destiny — must be deemed worthy of the sacrifices made on ambition’s behalf. If the tradition of ambition is to have vitality, it must be widely shared; and it especially must be highly regarded by people who are themselves admired, the educated not least among them. In an odd way, however, it is the educated who have claimed to have given up on ambition as an ideal. What is odd is that they have perhaps most benefited from ambition — if not always their own then that of their parents and grandparents. There is a heavy note of hypocrisy in this, a case of closing the barn door after the horses have escaped — with the educated themselves riding on them.

Certainly people do not seem less interested in success and its signs now than formerly. Summer homes, European travel, BMWs — the locations, place names and name brands may change, but such items do not seem less in demand today than a decade or two years ago. What has happened is that people cannot confess fully to their dreams, as easily and openly as once they could, lest they be thought pushing, acquisitive and vulgar. Instead, we are treated to fine hypocritical spectacles, which now more than ever seem in ample supply: the critic of American materialism with a Southampton summer home; the publisher of radical books who takes his meals in three-star restaurants; the journalist advocating participatory democracy in all phases of life, whose own children are enrolled in private schools. For such people and many more perhaps not so exceptional, the proper formulation is, “Succeed at all costs but avoid appearing ambitious.”

The attacks on ambition are many and come from various angles; its public defenders are few and unimpressive, where they are not extremely unattractive. As a result, the support for ambition as a healthy impulse, a quality to be admired and fixed in the mind of the young, is probably lower than it has ever been in the United States. This does not mean that ambition is at an end, that people no longer feel its stirrings and promptings, but only that, no longer openly honored, it is less openly professed. Consequences follow from this, of course, some of which are that ambition is driven underground, or made sly. Such, then, is the way things stand: on the left angry critics, on the right stupid supporters, and in the middle, as usual, the majority of earnest people trying to get on in life.

1. It is generally believed that ambition may be well regarded if ____.

A. its returns well compensate for the sacrifices

B. it is rewarded with money, fame and power

C. its goals are spiritual rather than material

D. it is shared by the rich and the famous

2. The last sentence of the first paragraph most probably implies that it is ____.

A. customary of the educated to discard ambition in words

B. too late to check ambition once it has been let out

C. dishonest to deny ambition after the fulfillment of the goal

D. impractical for the educated to enjoy benefits from ambition

3. Some people do not openly admit they have ambition because ____.

A. they think of it as immoral

B. their pursuits are not fame or wealth

C. ambition is not closely related to material benefits

D. they do not want to appear greedy and contemptible

4. From the last paragraph the conclusion can be drawn that ambition should be maintained ____.

A. secretly and vigorously B. openly and enthusiastically

C. easily and momentarily D. verbally and spiritually

公共英语四级阅读练习题【三】

People living on parts of the south coast of England face a serious problem. In 1993, the owners of a large hotel and of several houses discovered, to their horror, that their gardens had disappeared overnight. The sea had eaten into the soft limestone cliffs on which they had been built. While experts were studying the problem, the hotel and several houses disappeared altogether, sliding down the cliff and into the sea.

Erosion (侵蚀) of the white cliffs along the south coast of England has always been a problem but it has become more serious in recent years. Dozens of homes have had to be abandoned as the sea has crept farther and farther inland. Experts have studied the areas most affected and have drawn up a map for local people, forecasting the year in which their homes will be swallowed up by the hungry sea.

Angry owners have called on the Government to erect sea defenses to protect their homes. Government surveyors have pointed out that in most cases, this is impossible. New sea walls would cost hundreds of millions of pounds and would merely make the waves and currents go further along the coast, shifting the problem from one area to another. The danger is likely to continue, they say, until the waves reach an inland area of hard rock which will not be eaten as limestone is. Meanwhile, if you want to buy a cheap house with an uncertain future, apply to a house agent in one of the threatened areas on the south coast of England. You can get a house for a knockdown price but it may turn out to be a knockdown home.

1. What is the cause of the problem that people living on parts of the south coast of England face?

A) The disappearance of hotels, houses and gardens.

B) The experts’ lack of knowledge.

C) The rising of the sea level.

D) The washing-away of limestone cliffs.

2. The erosion of the white cliffs in the south of England ________.

A) will soon become a problem for people living in central England

B) has now become a threat to the local residents

C) is quickly changing the map of England

D) can be stopped if proper measures are taken

3. The experts’study on the problem of erosion can ________.

A) lead to its eventual solution

B) provide an effective way to slow it down

C) help to prevent it from worsening

D) warn people whose homes are in danger

4. It is not feasible to build sea defenses to protect against erosion because ________.

A) it is too costly and will endanger neighbouring areas

B) the government is too slow in taking action

C) they will be easily knocked down by waves and currents

D) house agents along the coast do not support the idea

5. According to the author, when buying a house along the south coast of England, people should ________.

A) be aware of the potential danger involved

B) guard against being cheated by the house agent

C) take the quality of the house into consideration

D) examine the house carefully before making a decision

Questions 46-55 are based on the following passage.

Protect Your Privacy When Job-hunting Online

A)Identity theft and identity fraud are terms used to refer to all types of crime in which someone wrongfullyobtains and uses another person's personal data in some way that involves fraud or deception, typically foreconomic gain.

B)The numbers associated with identity theft are beginning to add up fast these days. A recent GeneralAccounting Office report estimates that as many as 750,000 Americans are victims of identity theft every year. And that number may be low, as many people choose not to report the crime even if they know they have beenvictimized:

C)Identity theft is “an absolute epidemic”, states Robert Ellis Smith, a respected author and advocate of privacy,“It's certainly picked up in the last four or five years. It's worldwide. It affects everybody, and there's very littleyou can do to prevent it and, worst of all, you can't detect it until it's probably too late.”

D)Unlike your fingerprints, which are unique to you and cannot be given to someone else for their use, yourpersonal data, especially your social security number, your bank account or credit card number, your telephonecalling card number, and other valuable identifying data, can be used, if they fall into the wrong hands, topersonally profit at your expense. In the United States and Canada, for example, many people have reportedthat unauthorized persons have taken funds out of their bank or financial accounts, or, in the worst cases, taken over their identities altogether, rtmning up vast debts and committing crimes while using the victims' names. Inmany cases, a victim's losses may include not only out-of-pocket financial losses, but substantial additionalfinancial costs associated with trying to restore his reputation in the community and correcting erroneousinformation for which the criminal is responsible.

E) According to the FBI, identity theft is the number one fraud committed on the Internet. So how do job seekersprotect themselves while continuing to circulate their resumes online? The key to a successful online jobsearch is learning to manage the risks. Here are some tips for staying safe while conducting a job search on theInternet.

F)Check for a privacy policy. If you are considering posting your resume online, make sure the job search siteyou are considering has a privacy policy, like CareerBuilder.com. The policy should spell out how yourinformation will be used, stored and whether or not it will be shared. You may want to think twice aboutposting your resume on a site that automatically shares your information with others. You could be openingyourself up to unwanted calls from solicitors (推销员). When reviewing the site's privacy policy, you'll be ableto your resume just as easily as you posted it. You won't necessarily want your resume to remain outthere on the Internet once you land a job. Remember, the longer your resume remains posted on a job board, the more exposure, both positive and not-so-positive, it will receive.

G)Take advantages of site features. Lawful job search sites offer levels of privacy protection. Before posting yourresume, carefully consider your job search objectives and the level of risk you are willing to assume.CareerBuilder.com, for example, offers three levels of privacy from which job seekers can choose. The first isstandard posting. This option gives job seekers who post their resumes the most visibility to the broadestemployer audience possible. The second is anonymous( 匿名的) posting. This allows job seekers the samevisibility as those in the standard posting category without any of their contact information being displayed.Job seekers who wish to remain anonymous but want to share some other information may choose whichpieces of contact information to display. The third is private posting. This option allows a job seeker to post aresume without having it searched by employers. Private posting allows job seekers to quickly and easily applyfor jobs that appear on CareerBuilder.com without retyping their information.

H)Safeguard your identity. Career experts say that one of the ways job seekers can stay safe while using theIntemet to search out jobs is to conceal their identities. Replace your name on your resume with a generic (泛指的) identifier, such as “Intranet Developer Candidate”, or “Experienced Marketing Representative”. Youshould also consider eliminating the name and location of your current employer. Depending on your title, itmay not be all that difficult to determine who you are once the name of your company is provided. Use ageneral description of the company such as “Major auto manufacturer,” or “international packaged goodssupplier.” If your job title is unique, consider using the generic equivalent instead of the exact title assigned byyour employer.

I)Establish an email address for your search. Another way to protect your privacy while seeking employmentonline is to open up an email account specifically for your online job search. This will safeguard your existingemail box in the event someone you don't know gets hold of your email address and shares it with others.Using an email address specifically for your job search also eliminates the possibility that you will receiveunwelcome emails in your primary mailbox. When naming your new email address, be sure that it doesn'tcontain references to your name or other information that will give away your identity. The best solution is anemail address that is relevant to the job you are seeking such as salesmgr@provider.com.

J)Protect your references. If your resume contains a section with the names and contact information of yourreferences, take it out. There's no sense in safeguarding your information while sharing private contactinformation of your references.

K)Keep confidential (机密的) information confidential. Do not, under any circumstances, share your social security, driver's license, and bank account numbers or other personal information, such as race or eye color.Honest employers do not need this information with an initial application. Don't provide this even if they saythey need it in order to conduct a background check. This is one of the oldest tricks in the book--don't fallfor it.

46、Those who post their resumes online for a long time will run an increased risk of becoming victims of identity theft.

47、Robert Ellis Smith says that identity theft is spreading around the world and hard to detect beforehand.

48、Victims of identity theft may suffer additional financial losses in order to restore their reputation and correct wrong infbrmation.

49、In the US,750,000 people are estimated to become victims of identity theft each year.

50、It is a safer way to find a job online when you use an email account specifically.

51、One is supposed to learn how to manage the risks if he or she is going to seek jobs online safely.

52、Standard posting allows fullest potential audience to browse through the resumes posted online.

53、Honest employers will not ask their initial job applicants to reveal their social security account, driver's license or bank account numbers.

54、Make sure that your email address will not be named in a way that could let out your personal information.

55、Job seekers are advised to describe the company they are serving right now in a general way instead of giving an exact name.

When blood is sent to the lungs by the heart, it has come back from the cells in the rest of the body. So the blood that goes into the wall of an air sac (Jl) contains much dissolved carbon dioxide but very little oxygen. At the same time, the air that goes into the air sac contains much oxygen but very little carbon dioxide.

You have learned that dissolved materials always diffuse (扩散) from where there is more of them to where there is less. Oxygen from the air dissolves in the moisture on the lining of the air sac and diffuses through the lining into the blood. Meanwhile, carbon dioxide diffuses from the blood into the air sac. The blood then flows from the lungs back to the heart, which sends it out to all other parts of the body.

Soon after air goes into an air sac, it gives up some of its oxygen and takes in some carbon dioxide from the blood. To keep diffusion going as it should, this carbon dioxide must be gotten rid of. Breathing, which is caused by movements of the chest, forces the used air out of the air sacs in your lungs and brings in fresh air. The breathing muscles are controlled automatically so that you breathe at the proper rate to keep your air sacs supplied with fresh air.

Ordinarily, you breathe about twenty-two times a minute. Of course, you breathe faster when you are exercising and slower when you are resting. Fresh air is brought into your lungs when you breathe in, or inhale, while used air is forced out of your lungs when you breathe out, or exhale.

1. In the respiratory process, only one of the following actions takes place: it is_______.

A. the diffusion of blood through capillary walls into air sacs

B. the diffusion of carbon dioxide through capillary and air sac walls into the blood

D. the exchange of nitrogen within air sacs

2. The number of times per minute that you breathe is_______.

A. independent of your rate of exercise

B. fixed at twenty-two times per minute

C. influenced by your age and sex

D. controlled automatically by an unspecified body mechanism

3. The process by which carbon dioxide and oxygen are transferred does not depend on _________.

A. the presence of nitrogen in the blood

B. breathing muscles

C. the flow of blood

D. the moisture in the air sac linings

4. The author's style in this passage can best be described as---------.

篇6:大学英语四级阅读练习及答案

The Earth comprises three principal layers: the dense, iron-rich core, the mantle made of silicate (硅酸盐) that are semi-molten at depth, and the thin, solid-surface crust There are two kinds of crust, a lower and denser oceanic crust and an upper, lighter continental crust found over only about 40 percent of the Earth’s surface. The rocks of the crust are of very different ages. Some continental rocks are over 3,000 million years old, while those of the ocean floor are less than 200 million years old. The crusts and the top, solid part of the mantle, totaling about 70 to 100 kilometers in thickness, at present appear to consist of about 15 rigid plates, 7 of which are very large. These plates move over the semi-molten lower mantleto produce all of the major topographical(地形学的)features of the Earth. Active zones where intense deformation occur are confined to the narrow, interconnecting boundaries of contact of the plates.

There are three main types of zones of contact: spreading contacts where plates move apart, converging contacts where plates move towards each other, and transform contacts where plates slide past each other. Newoceanic crust is formed along one or more margins of each plate by material issuing from deeper layers of the Earth’ s crust, for example, by volcanic eruptions (爆发) of lava (火山熔岩) at mid-ocean ridges. If at such a spreading contact the two plates support continents,a rift(裂缝) is formed that will gradually widen and become flooded by the tea. The Atlantic Ocean formed like this as the American and Afro-European plates moved in opposite directions. When two plates carrying continents collide, the continental blocks, too light to be drawn down, continue to float and therefore buckle (起褶皱) to form a mountain chain along the length of the margin of the plates.

练习题:

Choose correct answers to the question:

1.The Earth’s crust______.

A.can be classified into two types

B.is formed along the margins of the plates

A.the oceanic crusts and continental crusts

B.the crusts and the mantle

C.the crusts and the top and solid part of the mantle

D.the continental crusts and the solid part of the mantle

3.Seriously-deformed zones appear _______

A.whenever the crusts move over mantle

B.when the plates move towards each other

C.in the narrow boundaries where two plates meet

D.to be the major topographical feature of the Earth

4.According to the second paragraph, the formation of the Atlantic Ocean is the example of_______.

A.spreading contacts

B.the influence of volcanic eruptions

C.converging contacts

D.transform contacts

5.This passage is probably_______.

A.a newspaper advertisement

B.a chapter of a novel

C.an excerpt from a textbook

D.a scientific report of new findings

主语中的top和solid并列修饰part of the mantle。

Questions 1 to 5 are based on the following passage

Since we are social beings, the quality of our lives depends in large measure on our interpersonal relationships. One strength of the human condition is our tendency to give and receive support from one another under stressful circumstances. Social support consists of the exchange of resources among people based on their interpersonal ties. Those of us with strong support systems appear better able to cope with major life changes and daily hassles (困难). People with strong social ties live longer and have better health than those without such ties. Studies over a range of illnesses, from depression to heart disease, reveal that the presence of social support helps people fend off (挡开) illness, and the absence of such support makes poor health more likely.

Social support cushions stress in a number of ways. First, friends, relatives, and co-workers may let us know that they value us. Our self-respect is strengthened when we feel accepted by others despite our faults and difficulties. Second, other people often provide us with informational support. They help us to define and understand our problems and find solutions to them. Third, we typically find social companionship supportive. Engaging in leisure-time activities with others helps us to meet our social needs while at the same time distracting (转移…注意力) us from our worries and troubles. Finally, other people may give us instrumental support―financial aid, material resources, and needed services―that reduces stress by helping us resolve and cope with our problems.

1. Interpersonal relationships are important because ________.

A) they are indispensable to people’s social well-being

B) they awaken people’s desire to exchange resources

C) they help people to cope with life in the information era

A) relies on the social welfare systems which support them

B) has much to do with the amount of support they get from others

C) depends on their ability to deal with daily worries and troubles

篇9:大学英语四级阅读练习题及答案

Questions 62 to 66 are based on the following passage.

The French word renaissance means rebirth. It was first used in 1855 by the historian Jules Michelet in his History of France, then adopted by historians of culture, by art historians, and eventually by music historians, all of whom applied it to European culture during the 150 years spanning 1450-1600. The concept of rebirth was appropriate to this period of European history because of the renewed interest in ancient Greek and Roman culture that began in Italy and then spread throughout Europe. Scholars and artists of this period wanted to restore the learning and ideals of the classical civilizations of Greece and Rome. To these scholars this meant a return to human. Fulfillment in life became a desirable goal, and expressing the entire range of human emotions and enjoying the pleasures of the senses were no longer frowned on. Artists and writers now turned to religious subject matter and sought to make their works understandable and appealing.

These changes in outlook deeply affected the musical culture of the Renaissance period --- how people thought about music as well as the way music was composed and experienced. They could see the architectural monuments, sculptures, plays, and poems that were being rediscovered, but they could not actually hear ancient music --- although they could read the writings of classical philosophers, poets, essayists, and music theorists that were becoming available in translation. They learned about the power of ancient music to move the listener and wondered why modern music did not have the same effect. For example, the influential religious leader Bernardino Cirillo expressed disappointment with the learned music of his time. He urged musicians to follow the example of the sculptors, painters, architects, and scholars who had rediscovered ancient art and literature.

The musical Renaissance in Europe was more a general cultural movement and state of mindthan a specific set of musical techniques. Furthermore, music changed so rapidly during this century and a half-though at different rates in different countries---that we cannot define a single Renaissance style.

62. What does the author mean by using the word “eventually” in line 3?

A) That music historians used the term “Renaissance” after the other historians did

B) That most music historians used the term “Renaissance”

C) The term “Renaissance” became widely used by art historians but not by music historians

D) That music historians used the term “Renaissance” very differently than it had been used by Jules Michelet

63. The phrase “frowned on” in line 9 is closest in meaning to

A) given up B) forgotten about C) argued about D) disapproved of

64. It can be inferred from the passage that thinkers of the Renaissance were seeking a rebirth of

A) communication among artists across Europe

B) spirituality in everyday life

C) a cultural emphasis on human values

D) religious themes in art that would accompany the traditional secular themes

65. According to the passage, why was Bemardino Cirillo disappointed with the music of his time?

A) It was not complex enough to appeal to musicians.

B) It had little emotional impact on audiences.

C) It was too dependent on the art and literature of his time.

D) It did not contain enough religious themes.

66. Which of the following is mentioned in the passage as a reason for the absence of a single Renaissance musical style?

A) The musical Renaissance was defined by technique rather than style.

B) The musical Renaissance was too short to give rise to a new musical style.

C) Renaissance musicians adopted the styles of both Greek and Roman musicians.

D) During the Renaissance, music never remained the same for very long.

篇10:英语四级阅读考前训练及答案

“Culture shock” occurs as a result of total immersion (浸没) in a new culture. It happens to “people who have been suddenly transplanted abroad. ” Newcomers may be anxious because they do not speak the language, know the customs, or understand people's behavior in daily life. The visitor finds that “yes” may not always mean “yes”, that friendliness does not necessarily mean friendship, or that statements that appear to be serious are really intended as jokes. The foreigner may be unsure as to when to shake hands, when to start conversations, or how to approach a stranger. The notion of “culture shock” helps explain feelings of bewilderment and disorientation. Language problems do not account for all the frustrations that people feel. When one is deprived of everything that was once so familiar, such as understanding a transportation system, knowing how to register for university classes, or knowing how to make friends, difficulties in coping with the new society may arise.

“... when an individual enters a strange culture, he or she is like fish out of water, ” Newcomers feel at times that they do not belong to and feel alienated from the native members of the culture. When this happens visitors may want to reject everything about the new environment and may glorify and exaggerate the positive aspects of their own culture. Conversely visitors may scorn their native country by rejecting its values and instead choosing to identify with (if only temporarily) the value of the new country. This may occur as an attempt to over-identify with the new culture in order to be accepted by the people in it.

◆The expression “he or she is like fish out of water” suggests_______.

A. people away from their cultures can hardly survive in a new culture

B. a fish can not survive without water

C. people away from their culture experience mental isolation

D. people away from their culture have difficulties in their studies

◆ In order to identify with the new environment, some people may_______.

A. give an exaggerated picture of their own country

B. criticize the positive aspects of their own country

C. abandon their original beliefs

D. accept a temporary set of values

◆Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the author?

A. Homesickness results in culture shock.

B. A typical symptom of culture shock is confusion.

C. Culture shock is the explanation of anxiety.

D. Culture shock happens to foreign students only.

◆Newcomers may worry about_________.

A. their ignorance of the alien customs

B. their knowledge of “yes” in the native language

C. their understanding of friendship

D. their control of their behavior

◆When the foreign visitor is immersed in new problems he finds hard to cope with, he is most likely to feel_______.

A. uninsured B. deprived

C. alienated D. disappointed

答案: C B B A C

篇11:英语四级阅读考前训练及答案

The future population will be older than today, and this in turn will change the patterns of social demands. However, Mexico will still be far from the “aging societies” that will most likely prevail (占优势 ) in the industrialized countries. In less than 25 years, the country will have to add almost as much infrastructure as it has already built up to now, simply to maintain services and production at the current levels. This will be a tremendous challenge, although a similar one was faced successfully in the recent past, when available infrastructure was doubled in two decades or so. It is no wonder that much has been said about the need to reduce or preferably halt Mexico's population control which is taken for granted as both good and necessary. It has also gained supporters in the developing world, and Mexico is no exception. But the arguments about population are complicated, as the following discussion illustrates.

Even if Mexico's population reaches 125 million by the year 2010, its population density is still smaller than the 1985 population density of some 50 countries. By international standards Mexico will still not be overpopulated by the year 2010. If wealth is generated by people, the more individuals there are, the greater the wealth that potentially could be generated. Why should Mexico control its population at density levels below those of the richer countries if more population represents the possibility of generating more wealth?

On the other hand, it is often pointed out that once sustainability(支撑力) limits are near or are reached, there are decreasing productivity gains (or,perhaps more accurately, increasing productive losses) , and people become a cost rather than an asset. If we assume that there are sustainability limits and that we are close to reaching these limits at a world level, then it is appropriate to check population growth.

◆According to the passage, the population argument is focused on_______.

A. whether more people are a property or a cost

B. whether Mexico should control its population growth or not

C. whether the density of population in Mexico is large or small

D. what the standard international sustainability limit is

◆ Which of the following is TRUE according to the first paragraph?

A. Mexico has stepped into an aging society.

B. It is not necessary for Mexico to control its population.

C. Mexico population is younger than that of developed countries.

D. It is not necessary for Mexico to develop its infrastructure.

◆By “infrastructure”(Para. 2) the author means_______.

A. buildings

B. the basic framework of a country, such as schools, services, etc.

C. social demands

D. services and production

◆ It may be inferred from the 3rd paragraph that_______.

A. it isn't necessary for Mexico to control its population growth

B. population is likely to grow at a slower pace than in the past

C. the more people there are, the greater the wealth people could generate

D. Mexico should control its population growth because she belongs to the developing countries

◆ To check population growth is necessary when_______.

A. there are decreasing productivity gains

B. there are increasing productivity losses

C. we are close to reaching the sustainability limits at a world level

D. people become a cost

答案: B C B A C
