Memory
1.Do you think memory is important?
Yes, I do. If we couldn’t remember certain things, life would be very awkward and difficult. Our memories hold a lot of important information we use all the time, every day, just to live.
2.Do you think it's important to have a good memory?
It can certainly help make things easier. If you can remember things easily and not forget them it can be very beneficial. Activities such as studying and learning seem much easier.
3.What are some of the benefits of having a good memory?
I guess some people think you are maybe more intelligent, or certainly smarter than most people, especially if you have an excellent memory and can remember everything. It can help you avoid embarrassing social situations if you never forget someone’s birthday, or if you don’t forget people’s names when you haven’t seen them for a long time.
4.Are there any things that are especially important for people to memorize?
I suppose it depends on the situation. Everything is important to some people. I mean… most people get upset if their friends or someone close forgets their birthday or a special occasion like an anniversary.
5.Do you think having a good memory is important for students?
Well, it certainly helps, doesn’t it? I mean it’s so much easier to remember all those facts, or formulas or information or whatever it is you’re studying. It can save a lot of time if you can just recall most things you need in an instant and not have to review your books or look it up again each time you some information.
Music
1. What kinds of music are suitable for children? Why?
idea:欢快活泼(upbeat/cheerful/lively),朗朗上口的(catchy)旋律
reason:这样的旋律学起来很容易,也让孩子们开心(cheer them up),他们可以快乐地跟着音乐唱跳(sing/dance to the music)
reason:歌词很生动(vivid),有画面感(have pictures/images in mind),更容易吸引孩子们的注意力(draw their attention),并引起他们共鸣(relate to)
sample answer:
Well, I’m no expert on this, but I suppose one of the most important thing is the melody should be upbeat and catchy. Kids are always happy, so naturally they’d love music that cheers them up. On top of that, most children can’t handle complicated melody, what they need is something simple and memorable, so they can sing and dance to it easily and happily. Another thing I guess is the lyrics should be about subjects children can relate to. For example, the little ones normally adore songs about animals.
I’m no expert on this.
2. Do you think people’s tastes in music will change as they get older?
reason:人的一生有机会接触到(get exposed to)不同的音乐类型(music genres),然后就会喜欢上(fall in love with)一种新的音乐;又或者是跟个性特点(characteristics/personal traits)有关,年轻人精力充沛(energetic/enthusiastic),喜欢追求刺激(look for thrill/excitement),因此更容易跟动感的(dynamic)流行音乐产生共鸣,而随着年纪和经历(life experience)的增长,很多人的个性变得温和沉稳(calm),这样的心态更容易接受古典音乐(classical music)或者交响乐(symphony)这样的类型
sample answer:
Well, I think my answer is yes and no. On the one hand, people have lots of chances to get exposed to different types of music at different stages of life, so it’s very likely that they will find something that fascinates them, and their tastes in music will change. On the other hand, people just love what they liked in their youth, and his/her passion for a certain genre just never fades. Take my uncle for example, he’s been a diehard Jazz fan all his life. He just can’t get enough of it.
3. Has Chinese music been influenced by western music?
sample answer:
Yeah, definitely! It’s almost impossible to not get influenced, thanks to globalization, and I think it’s fair to say that pop music in particular has learned the most from western music. There are so many truly talented musicians in western countries, and they have inspired Chinese musicians tremendously. Nowadays you can see lots of western elements added into our pop songs. For example, rap is all the age these days in my country, and the younger generation just love it. They think it’s cool and fun.
all the rage,大行其道,很受欢迎
4. Shopping malls and shops often play background music. Can you suggest why they do that?
这是重要的营销手段(marketing tool),而且非常有效(effective)-音乐是很有力量的(powerful and magical),可以影响人们的心情(have an effect on/affect people’ mood)-像是快节奏歌曲(fast-tempo songs)能让人振作起精神(lift someone’s spirit),甚至听到以后会开心起来(put someone in a good mood)-音乐营造了(create)很好的一个氛围(an inviting atmosphere),顾客在店里会感到放松(chilled out)快乐-这样的心态下, 人们就更愿意(be willing to do)呆在店里,多试(try out)几套衣服(outfits)然后买走(pay for)
sample answer:
The way I see it, it’s just one of the marketing tools that business people use to boost sales, and I must say it’s pretty effective. We all know that music is powerful and magical. For instance, fast-tempo music has the ability to lift our spirits and put us in a very good mood. I mean, the music creates an inviting atmosphere in the malls or shops, which makes customers feel chilled out and happy. Then people are willing to stay for a little bit longer, try out different outfits and then pay for them eventually.
题库中现在在考得describe a person you want to spend time with,我们用老年人或者朋友都可以。
地点题,建议大家必备类型为,describe a house/apartment(描述一个房子),describe a city(描述一个城市),describe a garden(描述一个花园),describe a restaurant(描述一个餐厅)。选择准备的为describe a country(描述一个国家)。
1. Good service 2. Convenient location 3. Economical/ have a reasonable price 4. Comfortable environment and atmosphere等。描述花园一题,可以用于describe a peaceful place,describe a place near water甚至做一些改变,就可以用于describe a tourist attraction一题当中。
比如人物类话题,1-4月的雅思口语是A teenager you know. A beautiful or handsome person, A person you like to work or study with, A person who is trying to protect the environment这些话题综合来看其实可以用一个语料搞定。
但相当一部分学生都只会答“Fine,thank you,and you? Today is very cold.How are you? Fine,thank you,and you?
“When I was a child…”
“…I often play outside with my friends.”
“I am a college student. Every day I will have many classes.”
“If I had the chance, I would prefer to visit the beach.”
“because in my hometown there have many mountain.”

Are men better at decision-making in a family?
Well, of course, it all depends, but I believe that men are still primary breadwinners(负责养家户口的人) in the majority of families.
So, they are mostly focused on business and career decisions.
What’s more, some of them work so hard that they literally don't see their families.
As a result, women, even if they are busy at work, spend more time than men making economic decisions for their families -from consumer goods to services.
So, when it comes to buying something, a man would much rather buy the first workable product, while women would rather continue shopping in the hope of finding the ‘perfect solution’ as women would compare prices, read users' reviews, ask friends for advice. So, they know better what to buy, where to do shopping, and when it's better to do it.
Secondly, because women spend more time being engaged in family matters, they better understand the needs of everyone in a family.
Due to this, women know better what gifts to buy for kids and relatives. They know each family member's preferences.
So,they are better at catering for their family's needs.
第三部分中,考官与考生会就考官提出的问题进行讨论,当考官说“This is the end of the test。”
一转眼,听到对面的考官对着他/她的录音设备说“This is the end of the test。”
Which months have the best weather in your country(你们国家最宜人的天气在那几个月?) It is quite different that the changeable weather in our country according to the latitude, different
Describe an activity you would do when you are alone in your free time(一个单身人士的业余活动);Describe an experience that you were scared(某次被吓到的经历);Describe a television program/ film that made you laugh(让你笑惨了的电视节目或电影);Describe a book you have recently read(最近在读哪本书),Describe a law/rule that you think is good(一条好的法律或规则)。
这时候,你可以用oh, let me see……, frankly, I think that would be a long story, so I almost forgot some parts of details……I have no idea about that, maybe……
Describe a mistake you once made.
You should say:
what it was
how you made this mistake
when it was
and explain how it affected you.
The biggest mistake in my life was falling in love with the wrong girl who had a completely different view of life, love and relationship. I was hardly 17 years old when I fall hard for this girl.
Initially, we were classmates and then became friends. In a year I started to feel something about her that was quite extraordinary and hard to explain. I guess people call this 'love'. My whole world started to shift and I was surrounded by a mirage for this whole time. Not a single moment had passed when I didn't think about her. She was the centre and power source of my universe. When I proposed her, she expressed her boundless joys and acted as if I should have proposed her earlier. So far, this is a sweet and innocent love story of a teenager and I was happy to have her in my life.
However, it took me only a few months to realise that she was not serious about our relationship. When she was my whole world, I was her just another temporary boyfriend. The relationship ended in ten months and I was so broken-hearted that I could not concentrate on anything for a while. My parents also knew about it and they were very supportive of me. First few days, it was quite difficult for me to get back to my normal life, study or go outside. I simply could not appease my mind that I made a great mistake and it was like an illusion that I need to come out from soon. However, when I started realising that I made a big mistake by approaching a serious relationship without even knowing the girl genuinely, I started making peace with my mind. I was completely honest with myself and that eventually helped me to get out of the depressive time I went through at that time.
The lesson learned from this mistake made me more cautious about making any kind of relationship and I am happy that I took this mistake as an event to learn a lesson. However, I often feel bad that how someone could be so naive to play with someone's sentiment so cheaply.
Describe a creative person, such as an artist or musician, who has influenced you.
You should say:
who this person is
how he/ she is creative
how you know him /her
and explain why you admire this person.
The American songwriter, artist, writer and singer, Bob Dylan, whose original name is Robert Allen Zimmerman is a very creative person I know about. I also admire for his creative songwriting and noteworthy songs. He is, in fact, one of the most influential songwriters and singers of all time and I respect him greatly.
He was born in 1941 in the USA and due to his remarkable contributions to literature, he was awarded the Nobel Prize recently. The Nobel Prize for literature is awarded both for lasting literary merit and for evidence of consistent idealism to a great extent. Dylan's songs have such creativity, consistent idealism and universal appeal and without any doubt, he is a very talented and creative person.
He is such a powerful and influential singer that his song like 'The times they are a-changing' and 'Blowing in the wind' became anthems for the American civil rights and anti-war movements.
His creative and dazzling lyrics incorporate a vast range of social, political, psychological, philosophical, and literary influences. As a musician, he has sold more than 10 million records. Besides, he is also a talented painter.
I knew him first when I heard his song 'Slow Train' from his album 'Slow Train Coming' in my early college days. I have explored his music and heard most of the songs sung by him. I have also read several articles online about him and his works. I know him as a revered songwriter and he is one of my favourite singers of all time.
I admire him mostly because of his talent and outstanding contribution to the music, lyrics, and literary works through his songwriting. There were times when his music personally inspired me, motivated me and helped me forget my pain. I have never met him in person but he seems like someone I know for a long and very closely. I respect him as a great musician, admire him as a songwriter and consider him one of the greatest minds of the present era.

I’ve always wanted to go and see Niagra Falls near Ontario; well actually it’s on the border of Canada and the USA. There are three big waterfalls there and I remember seeing them in a documentary in TV when I was younger and I thought it was very impressive. It was my first impression of Canada.
I remember watching a boat do a tour of the Falls and it looked amazing as the people went really close to the waterfalls and the noise was incredible.
I’m planning to go with my friend. In fact we hope to go there next year because we have a plan to study English in Canada for a year and we’d love to visit Niagra Falls and lots of other places while we’re in Canada.

At the moment we’re researching possible schools to study at and all the different courses available but hopefully by the summer we’ll have made our final decision and organized our visas and everything so that we can go and live in Canada and improve our English. I think I might like to live there in the future.

When we’re there we’ll obviously go and visit some of the famous places in Canada such as Lake Ontario, the CN Tower and of course Niagra Falls, so I think between our studies and doing some travelling and sightseeing in different parts of the country we’ll be busy most of the weekends and any other free time we have.

I think it’ll be a great opportunity to meet a lot of different people and practice my English as well as learn about living in a different country and culture. I’m really looking forward to our trip because I’m sure it will be really exciting.
Is it better to travel alone or with a tour group?
Everybody is different and they have their own preferences. As far as I’m concerned, either way, it has its pros and cons and one way is not better than the other. Some people say that traveling alone is unsafe and that they would never do it. I, on the other hand, disagree because traveling in a small or large group can be dangerous too. Yes, I agree it can be more dangerous traveling solo sometimes, but one has to take precautions like not walking dark streets alone at night, hitching a ride with a stranger, or staying in high-risk neighborhoods. The same goes when traveling in a larger group.
What makes a tourist attraction popular?
I never considered this question before. I need some time to think a little……umm. I believe it has to do with what the place offers. For instance, take Machu Picchu in Peru. Thousands of people all over the world travel there because of its historical background of being the “Lost City of the Incas”. In addition, it has breathtaking views and ancient ruins. Now take the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. Thousands of people pilgrimage there every year for religious reasons. I’m sure there are other motives that make a place a tourist trap, but these were the only ones I could think of.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of going on a vacation/holiday during low season?
Right off the bat, It’s definitely advantageous to go on vacation during the non-peak season because the costs for plane tickets, accommodations, and tour packages are less expensive. However, the weather may wreck havoc on your travel plans. I remember going to the beach one year during the low season and it rained almost every day. Another downside is that the local businesses might not be operating due to a lot fewer vacationers. Speaking for myself, I prefer to go on vacation during low season to avoid the crowds and high prices. I can find activities to do even when businesses are closed for the season.
Describe an interesting talk or lecture
You should say:
When you heard it
Where you heard it
What it was about
And explain why you think it was interesting
The speech was given by a manager in a place I was working. He was giving a speech to say goodbye to one of our colleagues who was leaving to set up as an independent consultant, but who had worked at the organisation a very long time, perhaps forty years. Everyone was sad to see this person go, as they were very popular, but we all wished them well and understood why they felt they needed to move on. It was a reasonably big workforce, so about sixty of us had gathered in the open-plan office to say goodbye and present a gift to our departing friend and co-worker.
I think sometimes ‘leaving-do’s’ can be really awkward and embarrassing Everyone stands around self-consciously and there is an excruciating and brief ‘goodbye and thank you’ from the boss, and then everyone stares at the poor person who is leaving whilst they rip open and read a rapidly bought card and mumble their thanks for a rather anonymous gift. This, however, was different. Our manager had made a real effort to prepare a good speech that was funny, well-researched, engaging and genuinely affectionate.
I think the speech was good because it involved everyone, shared funny (but not too private) stories that were relevant to the leaver, and the effort our boss had put into preparing it showed his respect and admiration for the colleague who was departing. The quiz also gave everyone something to talk about, so people could chat and mingle a bit after the presentation. It was also not too long! It held interest, and was appropriate for the context.

I was then 14 years old and was very fond of quiz shows. Both of us were enjoying the programme and a few minutes later my father asked me about my school. That was a bit embarrassing to talk about since my recent exam result was disappointing. He then told me some fascinating stories from his childhood and how he felt about school, study and other stuff. My father has a natural talent for telling compelling stories or maybe I love his stories because I like him very much. At one point I was so amazed to learn that he was very much like me and had more passion for playing, hanging out with friends than studying. He then explained me the importance of studying very attentively and how my academic performance will determine my future. If the advice had not been received from my father, I might have taken it very lightly. But when he told me how he had changed himself and achieved excellence in his academic results and how that has helped him to achieve a career he always dreamt about, I took it very seriously. The best point about this conversation was that I did not feel like I was being lectured or intentionally delivered some good advice. I thought about what my father advised me and I was really captivated about the idea that my academic excellence can someday make me a person I want to be. I was really enthralled about what I want to be in the future and my father’s advice made it clear to me that I will have to study hard to achieve this in my life.
I won’t say I have achieved an excellent academic record, but this advice helped me to become interested in learning and studying. Things could have been quite different for me if I did not receive the advice in proper time. This is the reason I consider it as the best advice I have ever received from anyone. This advice grew the interest of reading and learning in me and that’s the best part in my life so far.
How parents’ decisions affect their children’s life?
Parents decision do shape the child’s life to a certain extent and I believe that in some cases it is the parent’s decision that explain why the child chooses to live life like that. Even more it is not possible for a child to take his or her decision and it is the decisions of parents that the child follows. If the parent take decisions that make a child dull or boring, there is no fault of the child. However, there are parents who teach children to take decisions and I believe it is a great thing to do.
What important things do you consider while taking a big decision?
When taking a big decision, I try to figure out every right and wrong about it. It is lot of brainstorming, the people around me and myself. I like to talk to people who have been in the same position as me, the ones who have done that. Then, I go on and talk to my parents about it. But, finally it is more of what I feel is right because I think it is good to listen to head because it tells the most rational things to do but finally I am a believer of heart and do things that my heart thinks are right.
Do you usually listen to someone’s advice?
It depends on the situation a lot. I mean, if it’s a serious situation and I have to make a big decision then usually I’ll ask people I think can help me for advice. If the advice seems to be good then I would certainly consider it.
Do you prefer to listen to your relatives’ or friends’ advice? Why?
Again, it depends. There are some things my friends might have more experience of and therefore give better advice than my relatives. Sometimes they both have good advice… so I can’t say I always prefer to listen to one rather than the other. I usually try and talk to whoever I think can give me the best advice based on the situation.
Who should give young people advice about their future career? Why?
It’s a good idea for young people to listen to a variety of advice from different sources and then make up their own minds about what they want to do. Teachers and career counselors have more knowledge about careers and the employment opportunities, but parents, relatives and friends also have a different insight which they can offer you… a more personal viewpoint sometimes. But at the end of the day, everyone should make their own decision because it’s their career - they need to be happy doing what they choose.
How can people get information about careers? Why?
I believe that it’s easier than ever now thanks to the internet. There are many sites and sources of information which explain about many different careers, which careers are most popular and which pay the best money. You can research the career you’re thinking about just like any other subject. You can find out about all the options, the employment prospects and typical conditions as well as the long term professional development opportunities which exist.
A couple of months ago I went to the supermarket to buy some seeds, because I wanted to plant a tree in the garden and help with the process of reforesting my hometown. I chose the appropriate tree for my home, a small one with tiny roots and good for the summer, because the space where I will plant it is narrow and very hot.
The lady in the shop told me that the brand had a campaign supporting the care and promotion of home-grown plantations. She was giving away some extra seeds for the purchase of a tree, so she gave me some other seeds as a gift, which I could choose from a long list of possibilities. And I thought that it would be a good idea to accompany the tree with some flowers.
The gift package had fewer seeds than the one I had bought; however, there were enough to plant some beautiful flowers in the garden. I started to read the instructions and put water and the necessary elements for planting as well as making the land fertile to plant the seeds correctly.
I thought that the gift was very useful and complemented my purchase very well, because the flowers I planted grew before the tree, decorating the garden quickly while the tree grew. I decided to plant the flowers around the tree and that was a good decision because finally when both were fully grown, the garden looked very colourful.
This whole process helped me to understand the planting procedure and the care that plants require.
Receiving this gift made me feel good for two reasons: first, because I really like the campaigns which endorse care and consciousness about the environment, promoting reforestation.
All this helps people and encourages them to plant and be more aware of being committed to improving the planet. Second, I was happy with the idea of buying a tree, planting it with some flowers and growing a beautiful garden in my home.
Overall, this was a pleasant experience that I highly recommend, because it makes you feel connected to nature by contributing to improve the ecosystem.
Do you enjoy giving and receiving gifts? Why or why not?
Yes, I do enjoy both receiving and giving gifts. When I receive gifts, I feel happy. It points that the people who send gifts to me are those who actually care for me. And they also provide me with the best things that I can use in my everyday life. So, I am happy with the gifts. And when I send gifts, I try to consider some of the specific issues and try to get the presents which would be preferable to the receivers. Being able to give something offers us a kind of pleasure that is incomparable.
Who usually gives you gifts?
Usually, I receive gifts from my parents, siblings and obviously from my friends. Besides, when there are any social occasions and I invite my relatives, they also bring some sort of gifts for me. And I love those. I probably have got the highest number of gifts from my father.
Who do you give gifts to?
Well, I usually give gifts to my parents, teachers, relatives, my friends, and my college mates. When I am invited to any event, I give gifts to the host. I have given the highest number of gifts to my parents and most of them were handmade items.
In your country when do people usually give gifts?
People usually give gifts marking occasions like birthday, anniversary, graduation day and obviously they exchange gifts on the Christmas day. Apart from that, when someone invites others to visit his house, people usually buy some presents for the host and their children.
What kinds of gifts do they give?
They exchange gifts which could be used in the daily life. Sometimes, they give gifts which look nice on the showcases. Toys, dresses, perfumes, chocolates, electronic devices, flowers, books and household appliances are the most common gift items in our country.
Do you think gift-giving customs are different now than they were in the past? How?
Yes, the gift-giving customs have changed. Earlier, people used to visit shops to get the right type of gifts for their receivers. But now they rely on the e-commerce websites to get their gifts. Besides, in the past, people used to give some physical gifts and now they are moving for e-gifts like sending an e-card for someone's birthday instead of sending some chocolates. Moreover, book as a gift item has lost its appeal and electronic gadgets have emerged as most common gift items these days.
Do you think they will change in the future? How?
Uhhh… well, the things will change in future too. The emergence of the e-shops has made it easier for people to get or send the gifts on their doorsteps. People will start relying more and more on technology to send gifts on different occasions. Hence, the appeal of receiving or exchanging gifts might have a great fall.
