1 准确性胜过速度

优点：黄皮书搜集了I和A的题库，最重要的是每道题都用中文翻译了，这对于刚上手的战友可以说方便了不少。

缺点：部分题目特别是Issue有很多地方(譬如一些题目的key words)中文翻译有部分问题，大家在用的时候还是要留心了。不过，错误还是相对较少的。

使用用法：每天在空闲的时候不断过英文题目，诸如，刷牙，吃饭，泡澡。然后照着题目练习打字，这样有利于在考试的时候加快审题速度，到考场上你会发现，几分钟时间是相当宝贵的。另外，时间不够的G友，可以熟悉下中文的翻译，和每个题目的关键词，这样至少可以在时间宝贵的考试中，知道题目在讲什么。总之，考前过题库是一项必须的工作。

优点：相信看过它的同学都知道。时代里面大部分文章都充斥着相当数量的GRE单词，而且就文章种类而言，也包含了政治，历史，社会，经济，娱乐等等诸多方面。因此无论是从语言还是从内容上来讲，都是一本对备考GRE相对有用的杂志。另外，复习累了，可以看看他上面的图片。(记得Bush总是被拍得很丑……恩……虽然真人也不咋的)。

缺点：文章长，词汇难，看不懂= =。对于刚上手的同学来讲，阅读时代上的文章的确不是件容易的事情。但是，日积月累，多读多写多背，随着时间的推移，自然就能慢慢习惯了——这就是学习语言的方式。另，建议备考时间稍长的同学使用。

使用方法：当初我使用的时候，主要是拿来找例子的，记得有一期上面花了很大篇幅写了小平筒子的生前成就(当然，Time上的例子大部分都是最潮最新的。)，好东西啊。。(Time上的文章有我们值得学习的一点，对于例子及其论述把握得相当到位，所以那篇文章在描写小平的成就与贡献的时候，那个逻辑链就十分地清晰，同样也符合老米的思维方式，有些语言相当诙谐，有时间的同学不妨可以研究一下，对于写作的提高也是相当有好处的。)

但是，Time上出现的文章，我们不能直接照抄，原因如下：

其一，文章篇幅较长，如果原封不动地拿下来，就显得有点累赘，很难把握中心。

其二，ETS可是有雷同侦测器的，所以完全照搬的后果大家应该很清楚啦。

其三，记不住。

因此，大家需要对其总结和归纳，那要怎么做呢?一般来讲对与一个例子要抓住这几点：人物，职业(政治家，历史学家，科学家……)，行为(成就，贡献)，影响(无论是反面亦或是正面，这点很关键，要围绕你的论点)。

另外，我记得每期都有一个ESSAY版面，文章内容会讨论或者论述一个比较热点的话题，这可是纯议论文的文章，不妨可以抽些比较好的句子，然后，背背，写写，就是你的了。

GRE写作具体的练习方法

拆分法

分析题目极为有效的一种手段，其基本原理就是面对一个云山雾罩的抽象的大的概念，将其一分为二或者一分为多进行分别讨论。

解析法

通过对题目主体的需求进行分析，从而找到支持论证的有说服力的理由与典型的论据。主体需求，可以是个人，教育，社会，政府与文化发展等方面的需求。

正反法

对题目的主张或者结论分成两面分析。没有绝对对错，哪边理由与例证多我们走哪边。也可写成让步式或者对照式两面论证。

比较法

适用于题干中两个对等概念的比较。

这四种解题办法可以交替结合使用。下面我们通过几道典型题目举例说明拆分法在解题中的应用。

93.“The concept of 'individual responsibility' is a necessary fiction.Although societies must hold individuals accountable for their own actions，people's behavior is largely determined by forces not of their own making.”

在英文中，如果将一个概念定义为FICTION 或者 MYTH，基本就等于对其的否定。这里一个大的抽象概念就是个人责任，题目对其进行了否定。本题涉及了 “个人的行为”是由什么驱动的? 是个人责任还是外在因素?

如果我们只关注“个人责任”这个貌似很哲学的概念，然后上网铺天盖地一顿查询，得出一堆很高深的哲学与政治概念，我们就把题目给复杂化了。这样准备题库里的244道题目，将把你的GRE备考带进一个没完没了的泥沼。我们需要做的就是把 “个人” 这个概念拆分成一些自己熟悉的，有把握写好的，能够分析其行为动力的不同的人群。

首先，想想白领，White collar workers，every Monday when they step into the office building，they are compelled to do because they have to labor hard to keep their heads above water.驱动他们做不愿意做的工作是因为，他们要Pay for their bills，make their ends meet，take care of their families，concern their social status，being overwhelmed by anxiety about their retirement，etc).

那么白领是一种可怜巴巴的人群而已，他们并不代表所有的 “个人”，必须分开讨论。可能有同学已经能想到一些高尚的人，如在印度为穷苦病人提供人道主义救援(Humanitarian Relief)的Mother Teresa，和战地天使，现代护理学创始人Florence Nightingale.另外，还有美国社会的志愿者：救世军，Salvation Army，为流浪无家可归的穷人提供Shelter，food，clothes等，还有法国的医生无国界组织Doctors without Borders，美国红十字会 American Red Cross，为世界贫困地区提供志愿医疗服务。这些都是具有利他主义精神的个人，Altruistic individuals，并不是社会外力强加他们去做这些闪烁着人道主义光芒的事业。比如南丁格尔，出身贵族的大小姐，完全可以享受上流社会(upper class)的生活，比如医生，本身是高收入人群，(decent income)，却选择去非洲与印度。

因此，把个人这个概念一分为二，这道题就很好展开讨论了。炳炳老师的举例只是为了开拓大家的思路，抛砖引玉，显然并不是唯一思路。

这里的抽象大概念实际涉及了两个，一个是政治决策，另一个是人们生活。大家对那个领域熟悉就拆分哪一个。

比如，Barack Obama上台之后，大刀阔斧实施了一系列新政，试图刺激美国在Bush Administration 期间留下的经济烂摊子回升，从各个方面对美国人民的生活产生了深远的影响。比如，拆分生活领域，可以从三个方面入手，交通工具，就业市场与日常消费刷卡。

1.现金换旧车计划。Cash for Clunkers，美国人过去在能源便宜的时候爱开大型SUV and Pick up trucks.现在能源要枯竭了，Fossil Fuel Depletion，政府鼓励大家开小排量的清洁环保汽车，就给换旧车(trade in the gas consuming clunkers) 的顾客现金补助。政府从政策上引导大家的低碳经济意识与环保意识，从而改变了美国人的日常生活。

2.Bail out General Motors.GM是美国生产制造业的象征，它的破产，不仅会导致GM几十万工人失业，还会导致整个产业链上(Raw materials industry such as steel，rubber，tires，spare parts manufacturers，distributers，repair shops) 的几百万人失业，加剧金融危机，这是联邦政府所不能坐视不管的。因此美国政府收购GM股权，对其资产注入，成为大股东。使得GM通过破产保护与重组获得新生 (Rising from the ashes through bankruptcy protection and restructuring)，保证美国人就业。

3.Credit Card Act.美国信用卡法案，为保护消费者不受信用卡金融机构的剥削，限制了最高的年利率(APR，Annual Percentage Rate)不得超过一定百分比。不得有隐藏条款，Hidden Term and Conditions，比如年费Annual Fee.从而保护消费者不会债台高筑。

接触了两个拆分解题的过程，相信这个题会比较简单。大的概念是Study.是否需要质疑，要看学习的内容。

1.如果是Well established principles and theories，就别质疑争议了吧? 各专业的同学可以列举出一堆这样的内容。

2.如果是Controversial issues，就质疑争议好了。找你最有话可说的领域争议一番。

最好写的可质疑争议内容包括：Stem cell research，abortion，same sex marriage，nuclear power 等。

174.“Laws should not be rigid or fixed.Instead，they should be flexible enough to take account of various circumstances，times，and places.”

这道题目的大概念是法律，千万别一头扎进法律的起源，精神与演化之类的东东。我们在45分钟内是难以说清楚大师们用大部头都写不清楚的东西来。现在我们手起刀落把法律斩为两段，一为基本大法，另一为地方法，整个世界就清静了。对美国来说就是Federal Law and State Law的二分。

1.美国的联邦法从立国以来不是没变化，而是变化很少，著名的有First Amendment，规定了权利法案(Bill of Rights)的修正部分，国会不得通过法案干涉言论自由，宗教自由等。Second Amendment，规定了公民可以持有武器，在公民认为全国或者地方选举有舞弊行为时，可以武装保护选票箱，防止infringement by the federal government.当然，如果你不了解这些，没关系，可以说基本法变化甚少，比如权利法案，三权分立，总统选举，国会立法。这是国家立国之本，大部分同学也都比较熟悉。

2.各州法律，自然就随着时间地点的不同而千奇百怪。比如西部人烟稀少的高速公路，SPEED LIMIT就是80英里/小时，东北部人口稠密地区，就是65英里/小时。(1 英里mile = 1.6 km)。美国有些州允许赌博，如Nevada，New Jersey，Connecticut，Louisiana，其他州打死也不准。有些州比较自由 Liberal，允许同性婚姻，Same Sex Marriage，如California，Massachusetts，New Hampshire，有些保守 conservative 的州就坚决不准，如 Texas，Virginia.

A 6 paper presents a cogent, well-articulated analysis of the complexities of the issue and conveys meaning skillfully.

A typical paper in this category:

presents an insightful position on the issue;

develops the position with compelling reasons and/or persuasive examples;

sustains a well-focused, well-organized analysis, connecting ideas logically;

expresses ideas fluently and precisely, using effective vocabulary and sentence variety;

demonstrates facility with the conventions(i.e., grammar, usage, and mechanics) of standard written English but may have minor errors.

1. complexity:事物的两面性(同一事物有优点就有缺点，相比较的事物有各自的优缺点)，从多角度分析事物(分析不同领域中，不同情况下)。论点一边倒的文章论述得再好也只能得5分。

2.insightful position：在有全面深刻理解的基础上，观点最好新颖独到(对ets来说)，但必须保证能自圆其说。5分文的要求是well-considered position,因此只要求多论述几个理由，多考虑几个方面，表明你确实好好思考过，而不强求对论述题目有全面深刻的认识。看看ets范文的3篇5分文，你就能感觉的它们和6分文在思考深刻全面上的差距。所以，若对某方面论题不了解，还有一个月就要上考场的话，就不必花大时间饿补相关知识，只需看看别人的提纲，结合自己肚里的东西(足够)，整理出自己的提纲，考场上有条理性的加以论证。但切记，既然在这个给分点上你已经失去了优势，就应该在其他给分点下功夫：论述结构，论证技巧以及语言运用(参看本文其他部分的分析)。

3. conveys meaning skillfully:可用于论证的一切技巧(估计老美自己用起来也得费点心思)。比如文章的行文方向，起承转合不用明显的标志词(first, second, however, on the other hand, the second example illustrating my point)，而是依靠论述的内在脉络(只可意会不可言传)自然而然的引到下一块内容。总之是看不到transitional phrases确能明显感觉到论述的方向及其改变(例ets范文2, 6分文的第二段首句的作用)。再比如巧妙地运用引言代替自己的reason(如ets范文1的As the head once said)。再有一个深受老美喜爱的论证技巧：vivid metaphor(如ets范文1的to inspect only one's toenails is to ignore the whole body)，使枯燥的reason生动形象。总之，此点是用来筛选6分文的，故对5分文作者不要求。5分文的要求是conveys meaning clearly,所以把话说清楚别词不达意，茶壶煮饺子倒不出来就行。

4. compelling reasons(reason就已经够令人头疼的了，有加了个compelling)：这是最重要的一个得分点。就是你的理由及其论证，目的是让读者认可你的理由，从而接受论点。5分文要求logically sound reasons,结合ets范文可看出6分文要求理由非常有说服力，而5分文要求理由合常理，读者认为没错即可。

5.persuasive examples：用来支持reason的，使抽象的reason更具体，更易被读者理解，从而产生共鸣，或使其更可信，更有说服力。可用的例子有自己的经历，引言。在范文里Ets重点表扬过两种举例方式：1). extended examples(见范文1, 6分文)，叙述例子的过程就是reason的过程;2). examples are varied(见反问2，6分文)，举各个领域的例子或例子涉及的范围很广。恰切的例子一定要论述充分(不然ets都替你可惜)。5分文要求well- chosen examples, 4分要求是relevant examples，因此我个人认为，要达到5分要求，例子一定得典型，多少有点说服力。个人经历是最好的例子，但不能是特例。

6. well-focused:简单说就是不跑题。中心论点明确，全文不跑题;各段主题句明确，围绕主题句论述。使读者读完后对行文脉络，各段段意有清晰的印象。5分的要求是：is focused，内容上不如6分文联系那么紧密，但也应给读者留下同样的印象

7.well-organized：文章采用的论述结构，分几个部分论述，每部分有几段，各部分、各段间的关系是什么。切记，每个大的论述单元后要小结;全文结尾(最后一段)要对全文进行总结延伸：不能单纯的重复罗列各分论点，要根据全文的论证脉络，把论述过的分论点有机的结合起来(可用一些起承转合词)，起到深化主题的作用。全文结尾的总结很重要，运用好了能鬼使神差的把跑题的文章变成考虑全面，论述充分的好文(例ets范文2，6分文)。相比较下，许多人提倡的文章开头的提纲挈领反倒只有坏处没有好处：一是很容易弄的文章头重脚轻;二是这样做束缚了作者的手脚，后面的每一步论证都要考虑是否回应了文首的概括，反而不能reason fluently。三是容易弄巧成拙，本来是想让阅卷人清晰地把握文章内容，可他很可能会觉得你的reason不够skillfully,而且在文章结尾的时候，得再一次总结全文(必不可少)，若对英语的驾驭不是很好，很可能重复文首的那句话，这恰巧是阅卷人最善于揪的一个小辫子(可从ets范文评语中出现的频率看出)。再说，能够在开头把文章就概括得很好对我们来说也不容易。所以，还是把精彩的放到后头，前面简单的表明立场即可。

8.connecting ideas logically：using transitional phrases起承转合词，过渡句，或有此种作用的句子，总之起到help organize the ideas and move the argument forward(摘自ets范文评语)。5分作文要求connecting ideas appropriately,个人认为就是ets可以容忍用transitional phrases把不logical的ideas强行联系到一起，起码表面上过得去。所以，当你觉得段与段间的内容衔接得不顺，就干脆加个明显的起承转合词。

9. precisely:不要罗嗦，表达简洁。但如果以上几点做得好，这缺点可以忽略不计。

10. effective vocabulary：基本上挺难，但不影响大局，为避免重复大胆的用你想用的词，阅卷人能理解。

11. sentence variety：最好长短句结合，ets藐视总用短句的人：Since most of the sentences are short and choppy, the ideas they try to communicate are also choppy(摘自ets范文1，1分文评语)。

12.还有语法错误等等，小毛病，先把上面的问题解决好在理它吧。

There are some who would say that the media reflects the values of society. I believe however, that the media in fact tend to create values in a society. The first medium that comes to mind is music. Through music we can proclaim our love, communicate feelings, and express new attiudes. Music is widely available to almost everyone in our society. To see how music has changed the values of our society, one needs only to look to the urban sprawl. Rap and gangsta styles of music reach millions of city teens and young adults. It's message is quite simple- violence, drugs, and sex . Young people are constantly bombarded with the message that if you want something all you have to do is to take it. The values of human life, respect for elders and children have been lost. We have gangs and random killings in the streets of most cities in our country. Are these my values? They are most certainly not. This music does not reflect the values of this society. This music is the very core of this degradation of our values. How many tricked out gang cars to you see that don't have the annoying bass rumble of Rap music vibrating out of them? This music is part of the persona of a whole generation of people. It is just as much a part of their ego as the guns, drugs, and abuse of women. Another medium that is shaping the values of our society is advertising.

Advertising is everywhere, on T.V., billboards, radio, even at the ballpark. Through advertising some vendors can create “values”. To illuminate my point I will use tobacco companies as an example. Joe Camel has convinced millions of young people that it is cool to smoke. The Marlboro man has done the same. The audience is always the same. These ads are targeting young people. They have created the “value” among children that it is ok for kids to smoke. Again the values of society have been changed by a powerful media. I'm sure there are not too many parents out there who would want their children to start smoking. Another advertising media that will surely change the values of ous society is the Internet.

The internet is really just the world's largest commercial launched under the veil of access of useful information. It will be interesting to see just how this new network that has brought the world together will affect our values. These are just examples but I think they are effective at making my point. I think they serve to illistrate that the media can in fact change our values. As for me, I'll be out back smoking a Don Lino, on a beautiful trout stream while sipping a cold beer, waiting for the trout to rise and hoping a couple of those girls from the Coors commercial show up.

如果你还没有掌握一个单词，你可以进行meaning negotiation practice。在学习一个单词的时候，找很多这个单词的例句，通过例句不断猜测单词的意思，直到你找到了一个可以在所有的例句中都解释的通的意思，然后再去看答案。这种方式会促使你更加注意一个词汇的context和collocation，更加有助于你对于一个单词的language network的形成。

3. 单词进行例句背诵，例句仿写

对于已经学会的单词，如果你想去回炉把它训练成一个你在写作中可以很容易使用的词汇，你可对这个单词进行例句背诵，例句仿写等学习方式。

4. 最后，多读多写

想掌握好写作的用词，你要多读多写。特别是在写作中，刻意的去模仿别人使用高级词汇的例子，最后形成自己的写作风格。

Last year, the neighboring island of Torseau enforced similar limits on moped rentals and saw a 50 percent reduction in moped accidents. We predict that putting these limits into effect on Balmer Island will result in the same reduction in moped accidents.”
