Why?

(In the listening passage, the man expresses his opinion about the Office, he believes that…)

(In the listening passage, the man and the woman…)as the reading passage indicates

(In addition to the reading passage, we also find in the listening that…)

(In this lecture, the professor gives two examples to illustrate the principle of…中间用However, in the reading passage…)

(In the listening passage, the man and the woman discuss a problem. The man was…If I were the man, I would choose the second opinion.)

(开头句:In the listening passage, the professor introduces…)

2.答题时宁过勿缺,但如果最后差几秒又实在想不出,则可说:That’saboutit (连读) 3’ OR That’s everything I can say about this topic. 5’

SCG(圣城家园)

There are more and more people in Shanghai可以换成the population is increasing;A is harmful to B可以换成A brings harm to, A endangers B, A poses a threat to B,B suffers much from A;A enables B to do sth可以换成A makes it possible for B to do sth,B is now able to do sth thanks to/ due to/ because of A......

解决:solve/resolve, address, deal with, work out, tackle

解释:tell, explain, spell out, say how..

State a good friend whohad good influences on you,或 one of your favoritefriends ...... etc。

还有像relax way or good method to keep in good shape...,同样这些也是可以套用的 I pretty like... 或 I have to tell you thatit is my best way.。.

Ex,some students prefer tolive on campus but others like to board out, which opinion do you support?或者题目是do you agree with that students should live outside in stead ofbeing in the dorm?

Answer: some students like to live out of campus butI prefer to live on campus.

建议,Ex,the video game shouldbe refrained for their children?

Answer: I disagree... ... ... children should be given one hour free oronce a week for playing the video game.

Ex: 1. what are the features you care about whenyou go to a restaurant or cafe ?

1. “This sounds interesting, but I have too much on my plate at the moment.”

When you start your disagreement with a compliment: “this sounds interesting”, it makes the person less defensive and gives you a validreason to decline “I have too much on my plate at the moment”.

2. “I’m sorry but last time I did ___, I had a negative experience.”

This is a life-saver for me every time I have to explain to people that I do not eat meat. Before I would say that I was a vegetarian, but for some reason this explanation has never worked on hospitable Italian grandmothers. They would try to feed me bacon, sausage and octopuses (yuck!) explaining it with “this is not meat” or “I just put a little in this dish”.

Now I simply say, “I’m sorry, but I can not eat meat. Last time I did, I had a terrible headache.” And it works like a charm, because no one wants to hurt you on purpose.

The focus here is not on what you want or do not want to do, but on your previous bad experience.

3. “I’d love to do this, but ____”

This is a great way of saying that you like the idea, you are willing to help, but you just can not do it at the moment.

Note: Just do not go into a lengthy justification of why you can not do it.

First, it is not necessary. Time is a limited resource and when you say “yes” to one task, you have to say “no” to other opportunities that might be more important, urgent and beneficial to you at the moment. Second, offering a lengthy explanation makes you sound guilty and unsure, so people might push further to see if you will agree.

4. “I’m not the best person to help on this. Why don’t you try X?”

If you feel that you can not contribute much to the task, have no time or lack the resources, do not beat around the bush! Let the person know it up front. This, however, does not mean that you can not be helpful. You can still refer the person to a lead they can follow up on.

5. “I can’t do this, but I can do ____ (less commitment).”

“我不能这样做,但是我可以 ___(做出较少的承诺)。”

This is another variation of the previous method. You are saying “No” to a request, but you are still offering your help on your own terms, choosing the easier, less time-consuming commitment.

6. “You look great, but ___ does not do you justice”

This is a great way to diplomatically express your opinion when someone asks you a question about their appearance, without hurting the other person’s feelings (especially if the person asking you is your friend, your superior or your spouse).

7. “That sounds great, but I just can’t put one more thing on my calendar for the next few weeks. Let me call you ___ (specific time range).”

Sometimes you might get a proposal, an idea or a request that sounds interesting. But considering the amount of tasks on your to-do list, you do not feel like taking another commitment just yet.

In this case, instead of saying a straight out “No”, you are giving yourself time to reflect before making a final decision: “Let me call you ___ (specific time range).”

However, if you are not interested, do not leave the person hanging on. Use other ways to say “No” that are more definitive (e.g. methods #1,#2 or #3). It is more disappointing when the person is counting on you and you let them down.

break before college.

As a result, it will low your study efficiency and can’t prepare you very well for future development. Furthermore, the demand of job market definitely changes more frequently than your interests do. a job popular after you graduate, although it may receive poor recognition by the society when you entered college. So it’s wise to choose a major you are interested in.

I agree that it’s beneficial for students to have a part-time job or summer intern before applying for an occupation. Firstly, the importance for their future career is obvious. I agree with that music and art classes should be offered in high school. In addition, music and art would make the day more alive and interesting, which in turn leads to more learning. It may serve as the major source of joy and relax students during their endless scientific classes. I also believe that living with roommates will make life more alive and interesting. So I’d like someone to live with me.

I tend to support that freshmen live with students of different grades. Firstly, freshmen usually choose almost the same common courses, so they have communicated enough with others in classes, it’s not necessary to make them live together for more communication. Furthermore, mixed-type living style can also absorb students since freshmen can obtain more experience and suggestions from students of higher grades. For these two reasons, I support mixed-type living manner.

I definitely agree that a discussion class is more effective than a lecture class. First of all, discussion will make us learn from one another’s strong points and get help from others to improve our own abilities in

the area. Moreover, it will improve our interpersonal and communication skills which are quite important in a future career. Most of all, students are able to make friends with those who share the same love for a particular subject.

For other types of reading materials, although poems may be of great literature values, but sometimes they are difficult to understand. When I turn to them, I’m just looking for a way

of relaxation rather than another type of learning. Magazines are always expensive and contain lots of advertisements. So I really prefer fictions to the others.

I think computer is the most important invention. The reasons are as follows: first, it keeps me company and offers me various ways to entertain myself. In my eyes, a computer could be as magic as anything. It could be a music and movie player, it could be a game machine…it could also be a library. If I wanna listen to my favorite music or watch my favorite movie, they are just a click away. Second, it offers me unlimited learning

resources. If I have problems in my study, I can do some research online by using my computer so as to find out the answers. Third, computer makes it easy for me to keep in touch with my friends. Instead of writing postal letters and making distance phone calls, I choose to talk to friends by using Facebook or Skype. In a word, computer has made my life easier and more colorful.

I rather prefer to work in an office. Firstly, although working at home

may be comfortable, it’s difficult for me to be fully-devoted to work. Maybe I’ll want to watch TV, surf the internet or even want to have a sleep during the work time. So it isn’t efficient to work at home. Moreover, it’s more convenient to communicate with your co-workers or boss when you work in an office, thus you can get the assignment more directly and solve problems by negotiating with other employees, which helps you do better and learn faster. So I prefer the traditional way to work in an office.

I tend to disagree with cutting the recycling in school. Firstly, recycling can remind students of the importance of environmental

protection. With a recycling system, students will discard garbage into the special recycling garbage boxes instead of throw them away randomly in campus. In addition, school can employ workers to deal with the garbage regularly, it can also provide a job chance for people with low-income. So for these two reasons, I support that the recycling in school should continue.

I prefer to be a leader, because I want to implement my dream and I think I can meet the qualities required for a good leader. First of all, a good leader should have the ability of team building, and I believe that I can help each individual in the team to perform their very best due to my

excellent communicating skills. Furthermore, the experience of being a leader will make me more mature and capable, because I will learn more from the process of planning, organizing and solving unexpected events. So I prefer the position of a leader to a follower.

future career in such a rapidly developing society. Third, be able to make friends with the people who have related experience and expertise and get help from them about the problems we run into in the research.

I support the idea of students having several short vacations throughout a year. Firstly, short vacations are a great relaxation after busy final exams. We can be with family, visit friends, go to concerts and do many other things besides classes. Furthermore, students wouldn’t forget what

they have learned and will be more focused on their classes when they return to school if their vacation time is divided up throughout the year. And I also think short vacations are safe for students who have a travel plan. So I find many advantages of short vacations compared with a longer one.

able to make friends with those who share the same love for a particular subject.

I think it’s more important for students to study by oneself. Firstly, classes given by teachers are designed for most of the students. You may find you are not getting enough from the class or you can’t catch up with the class. In such a case, studying by oneself is crucial to improve your learning efficiency. Furthermore, studying by oneself will help you to find out your weak points as well as what you are good at, which is benefit to you to make schedule and formulate your study plans. So I hold that study by oneself is more important.

Actually, both of internet and academic books are helpful in doing research. But nowadays I think internet is much better. Firstly, internet contains such a tremendous amount of information that academic books can never compare with. You may also raise a question about a topic and ask for help on the internet. Furthermore, it’s more efficient and convenient to use the internet; all you need is a computer, while carrying books around here and there can be very heavy. So I’d like to search online.

Students might have many choices to spend a vacation as long as they can make the vacation time interesting or helpful. For example, you can visit your families or friends, go to concerts or do many other things for relaxation. You can also plan a trip to the city or somewhere you are longing for, which will help to broaden your view and knowledge. Furthermore, you can also choose to have a vacation internship, and the experience will increase your income as well as make you familiar with the society. So there is never lack of choices.

I consider that students should not have to wear the school uniforms. First of all, young people often express their feelings through the clothing that they wear. Uniforms will take away this form of expression. Moreover, I think that our school uniforms are too traditional, especially in colors and styles. In summer, girls must wear skirts but I like trousers. In addition,, the weather change every moment. Students cannot adapt to the environment wearing one or two uniforms.

I definitely agree that one should observe before helping others when there is a danger. Firstly, you must keep a clear mind if you are able

to help solving the emergency, otherwise you may do nothing but even put yourself in danger. For example, if the rescue needs more people or other tools, you should stop and think about where to get them. In addition, some imprudent actions may even deteriorate the situation. If you move a patient with heart attacking frequently, it can even cause death. So I think one should observe before helping others.

I don’t agree that people should always tell the truth. Though honesty is one of the most important qualities of a human being, it’s better to tell a white lie sometimes. Two years ago, my families suffered terribly from the death of my little brother. My mother covered the truth to my

grandparents and told them that my little brother went to take military duty because my grandparents are too old to accept the brutal fact. Until now, they have no doubt that their little grandson is in an army and they had a happy life every day until their time came.

I don’t agree that people can judge a person by the appearance at the first glance. In the famous novel Pride and Prejudice, Miss Elizabeth considered that Mr.Darcy was an offish and arrogant man when she first met him. Finally, she realized that she was totally wrong when Mr.Darcy helped her solve her sister’s wedding problem and hold her family

reputation. In fact, Mr.Darcy was so cool and didn’t know how to express his feelings. Similar things often occur in our daily life. Therefore, it is hard to judge a person by the appearance at first glance.

是 practical purpose 还是 for fun?

If I receive a large amount of money, I would like to buy a practical thing like a piano so I could learn how to play it. First of all, learning how to play a piano is a long-term process, that is to say, it is a nice method to strengthen willpower. Moreover, learning it can also make me understand

music better and cultivate my emotional intelligence. In addition, the biggest dream in my childhood is that I can perform a melody for my friends in a party. That’s cool, isn’t it?

I usually communicate with family or friends by telephone. Firstly of all, I feel more close to my family or friends by directly talking to them. Hearing their voices gives me a sense of intimacy, especially for a student far away from home. Furthermore, it’s more efficient to communicate by telephone. I can directly describe my life and receive information about my family or friends in just several minutes, while transferring information by letter or e-mail cost time and energy. So I’d like to

choose telephone.

I don’t support having a relaxed and unhurried life. First of all, pressure engenders impetus. If you always keep living a relaxed life, you can learn nothing and even find life tedious, because you have no idea what you are living for. Furthermore, it’s impossible for one to be relaxed forever. Life is full of chances and challenges. If you are used to an invariable and easygoing life style, you’ll be not able to deal with the chances or emergencies in your life. That’s why I oppose the relaxed and unhurried life style.

Well, I prefer also enjoy the view on our way. First of all, I think my purpose to travel is to enjoy the beautiful scenery, whatever at the destination or on the way, so we should also spend time viewing the scenery on the way if they are beautiful and worth to see. Second, we could make our trip full of surprise, because we can’t predict whether there is beautiful scenery on the way, and if we find some place wonderful on my way, it must be a huge surprise for me, and it must be better than only going to the destination. All in all, I prefer enjoying the view on our way.

I think old buildings should be protected and the reasons behind my view are many. First, old buildings present a place’s history, tradition, local custom and even some unique character. They were designed to be preserved as they were in early times. They serve as a mirror ro remind modern people of their past that they should be proud of.

Second, people can make money because most old buildings are tourist attractions which attract tourists from all over the world. If they do not exist any more, visitors might go back with regret. In addition,

tourism is always a big support to economy. Therefore, we could try to bring the funding into the budget to do whatever is necessary.

I think it’s more important to learn from personal experience, although advices from others are helpful and sometimes necessary. First of all, when you have problems or get into a dilemma, you are the person most familiar with what you really want and it’ll promote you to develop the ability to solve. Advices from others may be just the opposite with your expectation. In addition, more personal experience will make one more mature and capable. You can realize the society more comprehensive and objective. So I’d like to learn from personal experience.

I do prefer to live on the plain. My favorite place is the Lianfeng Mountain Park, which locates the small Bei Daihe city east of China, abut against Bohai Sea. You can enjoy the fresh air among the brushy trees as well as the euphonic birds’ singing. More amazingly, it doesn’t take long to go to the seaside. Just imagine the blue sky and ocean together with the beautiful sunshine on the beach. Furthermore, I like to collect rainbow seashells on the beach. More important, on the seaside I happened to make friends with a pretty and kind girl with the same favor for seashells. She gave me some heart-shaped seashells, which are very unique, as a remembrance. The life in the small city is really interesting andmemorable.

《Steve Jobs

《Flipped

Flipped is a love story between a girl and her neighbor which is set in aseries of traditional American schools in a small town. By watching it, you cannot only get to know typical American teenagers’ lives but also practice yourspeaking and listening with clear and decent American pronunciation.

It is an inspiring story about a teacherand his students. You might get a better idea of what a good teacher should beor what you really want to do in the future. It might help those who don’t knowwhat major they want to study in college. Why not watch it?

Should old buildings be replaced by new buildings?

I think the old buildings should be preserved. I have two reasons to support my opinion. Firstly, old buildings are precious property of human being. We will lose those valuable historical buildings permanently if we don't preserve them. Once a historical building is destroyed, we can never restore it. Secondly, old buildings are a symbol of a city and a valuable tourist resource. Think about the Forbidden City and The Summer Palace in Beijing. They are the relics of the city and carrying great historical and cultural information. Every year they attract visitors from all over the world, which generates profound tourist income.

More information

1. Old buildings attract people.

America’s downtown revivals suggest that people like old buildings. Whether the feeling is patriotic, homey, warm, or reassuring, older architecture tends to fit the bill. Regardless of how they actually spend their lives, Americans prefer to picture themselves living around old buildings. Some eyes glaze over when preservationists talk about “historic building stock,” but what they really mean is a community’s inventory of old buildings ready to fulfill new uses.

2. Old buildings are reminders of a city’s culture and complexity.

By seeing historic buildings — whether related to something famous or recognizably dramatic — tourists and longtime residents are able to witness the aesthetic and cultural history of an area. Just as banks prefer to build stately, old-fashioned facades, even when located in commercial malls, a city needs old buildings to maintain a sense of permanency and heritage.
