Nature or Nurture?

While many individuals complain that they are not sufficiently clever to succeed in life, I firmly believe that personality and development are decided more by education and training after birth than any given gene.

To begin with, environment is a determining factor of one's personality. One may think that personality is already shaped once a baby is born, but in fact there are many contributing factors. The baby, for instance, would most likely be pessimistic if he or she lived in a poor family, where the baby always received punishment from his parents. His view of life would be very different from another individual who lived happily in a perfect nurturing family with encouragement and psychological support from his parents.

Further, education after birth plays a significantly role in one's development. Education, which helps children develop their thinking and accumulate their knowledge, is a deciding factor of one's success. For example, a high-school level person commonly may not to the extent of a person who has received an university education. This is not only because of the greater breadth of knowledge acquired, but also due to a more critical and focused way of thinking that is imparted and refined during ones senior education. A wolf child, to offer another instance, due to a deficiency of education by contact with human beings, could hardly live in our society or self-develop.

Admittedly, nature, decided by the genes given by one's parents, also affects one's personality and development. One can clearly find differences among younger kids in their learning ability, which could prove the importance of genes in this regard. However, when compared with other factors after birth, the role genes play in one's personality and development may not be particularly significant. Not all genius will inevitably be successful, and similarly not all great men are genius in their childhood. Therefore, I hold that environment and education after birth weigh heavier than nature in regard to one's personality and development.

Compete or cooperate?

Both competition and cooperation play a large role in the advancement of society, both in business and non-business areas. Competition forces people to improve their products or services, and hence benefits the recipients of these products or services. Cooperation, however, plays an even more important role in development of individuals and the society as a whole, because it drastically increases the scale of these improvements. Working in groups and teams far increases the productivity of individuals. Thus, I firmly believe children should be taught to cooperate rather than to compete.

First of all, cooperation is an important skill in the future life of all children. They will need to live with other people throughout their life, since they will not study alone, work alone, nor spend their leisure time alone. If they do not know how to cooperate with their classmates, their colleagues, and other family members, then they will lose the chance to live happily. Thus, cooperation skills should be taught before they grow up to face serious problems living with others.

Furthermore, cooperation is a significant contributing factor to the development of society. While competition generally ends in a win-lose result, cooperation advocates that one plus one is larger than two, three or even a larger number. For example, the competition of two business firms would ultimately lead to the result that one becomes stronger and the other fails and goes out of business. However, if they cooperate with each other successfully, they may group together to form an enterprise larger than the mere sum of the two. The more successful cooperation there is, the better the society develops. Thus, cooperation should be taught to children, because eventually they will be the executives of important corporations.

Admittedly, competition also plays a significant role in many areas. Stressed by the competition, individuals and organizations have to struggle to survive, and so they are forced to make improvements and develop.

However, in comparison, cooperation is more effective in helping individuals and societies to develop, because it benefits not only individuals, but also society as a whole. The reality is that children should be taught both, but if forced to choose only one, parents should undoubtedly teach their kids to cooperate rather than to compete

Some people believe the purpose of education is to prepare individuals to be useful to society, while others say the purpose is to help individuals to achieve personal ambitions. Please discuss both views and give your opinion.

范文:What does education mean for a person - to gain the knowledge and ability to excel in professional career or to enable him to contribute meaningfully to society?

As for me, they are not mutually exclusive, and further, the latter can and does embrace the former.

Narrowly, education facilities an understanding of oneself, providing a chance to enlighten one to know more about what he wants.

That is, from kindergarten to university, one gradually realizes his desire that usually comes with different types and requires skills and ability of various kinds to fulfill. Then, in order to make these dreams come into being, he has nothing to do but learn, and more importantly, being educated, other than self learning, is more effective way to expedite this. Consider, for example, a girl who dreams of becoming a nurse. Only by attending the college will she be able to fulfill her ambition.

Then, for a broader perspective, becoming truly education requires sufficient mastery of one particular academic area to permit individuals to make contributions to social development and construction. It is a fact universally acknowledged, that any society is made up by individuals who work in positions of all kinds. Then, through education no matter what form it is, they become knowledgeable citizens and, at the same time, take on the role in their communities. Theoretically, the more education they receive, the more they will pay back to the society. Hence, great benefits eventually accrue to society as a result of education.

To sum up, it is easy for me to draw a conclusion that education amounts to far more than gaining knowledge and ability; that is, it deals people a chance to be entitled to self-determination. And with all these individual efforts coming up together, the society develops greatly.

Describe a person that moved home

Speaking of a person who moves to a new accommodation, I just think of my friend Linda. Her neighbor frequently played his music excessively loud, which rattles the change off her coffee table. She spoke to him repeatedly and he always turns it down to merely loud. But then turns it back up within the hour. She said she couldn't stand her downstairs neighbor any more so she changed her living place. Now her new neighbors are about 70 years old and they are very quiet. She stays at college most of the time. They don’t have anything in common and just say “hi” when they meet.

The new accommodation she moves to is in a suburb. Linda has to drive 20 minutes to go to the grocery store. But she doesn't mind it because she can live in a bigger than before. When she looks out of the window, she can see the flowers and cute birds flying in the sky. The only thing should be improved of her new accommodation is the blue-color stars all over the walls. Although they glow in the dark, during the day they make her feel depressed. Therefore, she plans to add some posters on them.

My cousin just moved to a new place near her school.

She is about to start her senior year in high school, which means she’s under huge pressure ‘cause the college entrance exam is just around the corner. So she needs a proper environment to prepare for her exam. However, the apartment she used to live in can’t give her that. I mean, her neighbors are party animals, and they always like to throw parties and play loud music at night, which made it really difficult for her to concentrate on her study. Also, there’s a homeless dog wandering around in her old neighborhood, and kept barking at night, you can imagine how noisy it was right? Plus, she had easy access to the Internet in her old house, which was a huge distraction for her. She couldn’t resist the temptation of those social networking websites and she always liked to chat with her friends online.

So in order to make her more focused, her mom decided to rent a new place near her school, for one thing, that would be convenient for her to get to school. For another, she could have a quieter environment to study.

Now in her new apartment, there’re only two bedrooms, and there’s no TV, no WI-Fi, so all she could do is study. Her mom is quite satisfied with the new arrangement, however, I’m sure for my little cousin, it must be a torture.

My friend Xiao Ming just moved into a new apartment off campus because he couldn’t stand the terrible environment in his dorm.

Here’s the story.

He had 5 roommates, so you can imagine how cramped it was. And you know how boys are like in college right? I mean, there was one roommate who never changes his socks, and he also doesn’t like to take a shower. And one of his roommates is a heavy smoker, the worst part is, he never smokes outside. So you can imagine the smell in his dorm, uh? It was unbearable. And it is really noisy as well. All of his roommates are big fans of video games, so every night the dorm is just like an Internet bar, you know, full of people who kept yelling and screaming to their microphones, which made it really hard for him to go to sleep.

And the most annoying thing was, a few weeks ago, some of them kept a dog in the dorm, who always made a huge mess and kept barking at night. Actually it’s against school policy, but he couldn’t tell on his roommates, you know, ‘cause that would reflect badly on me.

So they left him no choice but to move away.

Right now he’s living in a studio all by himself, which is much quieter and cleaner than before.

This topic reminds me of an experience of moving house taking place 13 years ago when I was to enter the primary school. It happened that the headquarter of my father’s company was relocated; so he had to change the working place from the small city we lived to the provincial city Jinan.

It was a long-distance moving, so we borrowed a van from the relative. We took most of the furniture we could carry and left some big ones like the bed and wardrobe. It was quite unforgettable experience to me, because that’s the first time I left the flat we lived fornearly 7 years.

One day later, we settled down in a more spacious flat with 2 bedrooms, a living room, a small kitchen and a beautiful balcony with French windows. I went to a famous primary school with good teaching quality and fame. Currently, my parents and I still live there.

That was the only time of house moving I experienced, but it changed my life thoroughly.

neighbors who often annoy us by making noise by throwing parties

neighbor with a newly constructed supermarket/outlet/seafood market

We bought a bigger house in the outskirt area/city center

We moved out from the grandpa’s and lived separately

我听一个口语外教曾经说,a successful international speaker should grab several tones.

In an attempt to provide a better way for citizens to spend their leisure time, it is recommended that more public parks or sports facilities rather than shopping centers should be constructed. As far as I am concerned, I completely agree with this proposal.

To commence with, the construction of sports facilities enables citizens to take more exercise in their free time, which is conducive to both physical and psychological health. In contemporary society, fiercer competition and heavy workload restrain employees from being relaxed, even cause them contract mental diseases such as depression. Supposing that devoted to a basketball or football match after work, they are able to relieve themselves of stress and escape from harsh reality temporarily. As for keeping fitness, it is conceivable that regular exercise strengthens immune system, improves blood circulation as well as increases the size of muscle fibers of body. Consequently, spending free time in sports activities is a preferable choice for the public.

In addition, public parks are places where residents can spend weekends with families and friends. Having a picnic or chatting, reading books, playing games with children are common activities they could do there. What’s more, the young and old can do running, jogging or Tai Chi in the mornings or evenings in parks. Without adequate parks, hardly can people engage in those actives during their free time.

Admittedly, shopping centers are useful business establishments in which people enjoy time off work by purchasing fancy goods. Despite this, merely a small proportion of citizens are able to attain such kind of enjoyment due to their affordability of items in malls. Therefore, investing resources in their construction fails to ensure the majority, particularly the poor and old, enjoy their leisure time.

In conclusion, I firmly support the number of public parks or sport facilities should exceed that of shopping malls, for the reason that the former benefits more people and serves a purpose in leading a healthy lifestyle for citizens.

While the price of real estate is rocketing in metropolitan cities in recent decades, the living space for city dwellers is drastically squeezed. This situation does not only mean the square meter of their home, but also refer to the outdoor public space and commercial buildings they are allowed to utilize.

City residents need space to do outdoor activities. They need to walk their dogs, do exercises, or play with their little children. Equipped with some sports facilities, these places can serve a role of encouraging physical activities and healthy lifestyles. Public open space also facilitates local residents to meet their neighbors and feel to be included in a community. This sense of belonging can be vital for the establishment of a healthy and safe cohesive community. Open areas are the most significant for children. Especially for those children with no siblings, the public ground around their home is the place where they regularly socialize with their peers in their neighborhood.

Of course, plazas, gardens and parks occupy land, posing a real challenge for metropolis planners, who have to balance between the growing demand for residence as well as commercial buildings and recreational infrastructures. Furthermore, the size of such facilities should also be under scrutiny. A large civic central square does not actually serve a better function for local residents than a smaller one around home because the distance travelled between would be long, and this inconvenience can discourage people from regular participation. Imagine the Tiananmen Square, not in Beijing but in a town with small population in a regional area. Would it serve its best to local people?

Therefore, here is my conclusion that citizens deserve large commercial shopping centres for recreational purposes. In the meantime, small sporting facilities ought to be established outside each residential quarter.

Up to 66% government workers( 30% male ones and and 36% female ones ) work more than 46 hours a week, while only 4% female employees in private companies work so long, considerably lower than that for their male counterparts(34%). However, fewer workers work 31-45 and 13-30 hours a week in government institutions than in private companies. To be more specific, as few as around 10% male and female employees are at work for that time , compared with approximately 23% in private companies.

Although there are 50% workers working 6-12 hours every week in total in both institutions, the figure for women workers in private companies is as many as 35%, different from that for private company male employees (merely 15%) , and for male and female government staff (23% and 27% separately). 23% government male workers work 1-2hours each week, 18% higher than that for those in private companies. It is interesting that the proportion of female workers who are at work 1-2 hours a week in government institution is the same as that in private companies, with both accounting for 18%.

Overall, most employees work more than 46 hours and 6-12 hours in government institutions and private companies.

Talking about a person of decency, the first man popping into my head would be Mr. Zeng who happens to be my teacher. He is polite not because he greets people in the morning, but because of his true respect for everyone. You know, most teachers in China, as they are invariably superior intellectually, would despise those holding different opinion with them. It is true when they face their colleague, and it is no less true when they confront their student. They often tend to criticise the student if he/she has an opposed idea about some issue. Yet, Mr. Zeng is completely different. He is such a gentleman that he respects all the ideologies he meets. When talking about the westward movement, he would ask us of our opinions. One of my classmates said the Movement was doing more harm to the diversity of American culture than shaping it. The entire classroom then was filled with scorn. However, Mr. Zeng did not. He calmed the class, and asked the student the reasons of saying so. After the reply, he admitted that it was such a great idea which may change the history of history and that he would take this ideology as a fraction of his teaching content next semester. That's when I realized that what true politeness is. Mr. Zeng showed me that kind words and compliments are not indicators of politeness. Instead, it is the respect for people especially people's way of thinking that paves the road for the grand hall of gentleman.

This is an interesting question. I know a bunch of people who have really good manners. On top of my list though, is this guy I met in high school. What was his name...um Chris. That’s right. He was a foreign teacher from the united states, and I studied under him for a year. What’s great about him was that he never made me feel uncomfortable in any way in our English conversations. As someone who had been struggling with English speaking, I must say that’s very impressive. You know how intimidating those conversations can be. Well actually you wouldn’t know because English is your mother language. But anyone in China with the experience of learning English as a second language knows how difficult it is to create an environment in which Chinese students feel comfortable speaking.

He did it with his politeness and the respect he showed to every student, whether they were good at English or not. He was very successful in making us feel confident around him. For example, what he usually do is he would see you coming from a mile away and start waving his hand, walk towards you and raise his tone of voice to suggest that he was pleased to see you. No one thought he was acting either, because he wasn’t faking his passion for his students. Another thing that he used to do during conversations is that he would lean forward just a little to pay attention while you talk and he would nod his headonce in a while to show that he understood what you said.

I think being polite is all about showing respect, and Chris is an exemplar in showing respect to people who might otherwise feel dwarfed by his presence. I couldn’t have possibly covered all his polite behaviors but those are the two things that I have noticed.

My meeting with John was an exceptional event. After my acquaintance with him, I felt like I met the most polite man in my life. He truly is a man of gentle nature. He is kind and loves to meet with people and help them in their needs. Though he needs to suffer for his politeness, he is unable to give up his natural habit. This is a nice cue card task for me and I am happy to have the chance of describing him.

I came to know about John in my university. He is the only person who came to my help when I was in a dire need of support. In fact, I lost my class diary and a pen on my way to the university and it was John who helped me with his own pen and shared his notes. Later, I came to know that he had a single pen that he gave to me and he did not write a line on his exercise book for the want of a pen. When other students were busy with them, he came forward for my help selflessly. It was his politeness that made me amazed.

John is polite in every sense. He never makes any rude remarks to anyone while others find it interesting to make statements on other's troublesome situations. Moreover, when someone is in distress, it is John who moves ahead before everyone else. His speeches are well constructed and he always carefully tries not to hurt anyone with his speech. He is unable to say something against any rude remarks to him and remains silent in this situations. He is well-known both for his gentle nature and talent.

I am highly glad to have this person on my friend list. In fact, he is a model for everyone to learn courtesy. He never breaks his promises and makes promise considering his ability. So, I like him very much for his politeness and other qualities.

Well, the most courteous man I know is my uncle, who’s my father’s little brother. We are pretty close. He’s only 10 years older than me and we always hang out together. He’s well educated, I mean, he just got his doctoral degree. He’s been to a bunch of formal occasions, and he’s quite familiar with social etiquette.

Here are some few examples:

Whenever he’s out with someone, he’s always properly dressed. I didn’t get why he would go through so much trouble to “impress” others, but he explained, the whole point was not to impress, but to show respect.

And he’s super modest when talking to others. Besides, he’s a good listener. He never cuts others off. It always feels good when I have a conversation with him.

And he’s extremely polite when interacting with waiters and taxi drivers. He would say thank you many times after he’s been helped.

On top of that, he pays attention to small details in our daily life, like knocking on doors before entering a room, holding the door for others behind him, and holding the elevator when he sees someone rushing to the door.

So you see, he’s really a nice person, and he’s a good influence on me. Spending time with him has helped me become a better person.

Courteous = polite, especially in a way that shows respect此处就是为了替换一下polite,例如:

a courteous young man

The hotel staff are friendly and courteous.

Etiquette = the formal rules of correct or polite behavior in society or among members of a particular profession如果感觉记忆有难度的话,说social manners也OK.

A good listener = somebody who you can rely on to listen with attention or sympathy

Cut somebody/something off = to interrupt somebody and stop them from speaking,例如:

My explanation was cut off by loud protests.

On top of that = also, additionally, moreover. (Wiktionary) 不过也有一种用法是强调用于列举一堆不好的事情的,例如The Free Dictionary给出的解释:in addition to the bad thing already mentioned,例如We missed the bus, and on top of that it started raining.

Ok, right then, well the person I’d like to talk to you about is a very good friend of mine called Matthew, the reason being that he must be one of the nicest and most polite people I know, which I’ll come to explain in a moment.

But firstly, as for how I know him, well we’ve basically known each other since middle school, because we were in the same class together, and we still see quite a lot of each other. You know, if I feel like going out and doing something, I normally give him a call and see if he’s free to meet up.

And moving on to why I think he’s so polite, well it’s basically because he’s just got really good manners. And just to give you an example, he always says thank you to people, even for the slightest thing. For instance,I’ve noticed that whenever we’re eating at a restaurant, he will thank the waiters and waitresses every time they bring a dish to the table. And another example would be that whenever he gets off a bus, he will always say thank you to the driver, which a lot of people probably think isn’t necessary, but I’m sure the bus drivers really appreciate it, as do the waiters and waitresses, because it’s not all that often they hear people thanking them!

So yeah, that’s basically why I’d say he’s such a polite person, and I’m just trying to think if there’s anything more to add, um……, oh yeah, and one other thing to mention would be that he’s always very complimentary to people. So what I mean is that he tends to always say nice things to people, for example he might make a comment about how nice someone’s looking, or how good their cooking is, which I know might be seen as being a bit um,…what’s the word……um… insincere, but I think he genuinely means what he says, at least most of the time anyway!

And I mean, I can’t remember a single time when he’s ever been rude or unpleasant to anyone, and I also can’t really imagine him being nasty to anyone either.

So yeah, that’s pretty much it then. Thanks for listening.

While some people believe that the government has a duty to provide art to the public, others argue that the government money should be spent on other urgent matters. This essay will examine whether governments should invest money in art.

Throughout the ages, men have created beauty through painting, music, sculpture and other artistic expression which are essential to the cultural heritage of human beings. Investing in art often means that many different forms of culture are maintained: songs, literature and traditions etc. They all contribute to the richness and variety of human culture. Besides, art could be an important part of economy. It can stimulate tourism and create chances of employment. Therefore, it is easily understandable when people claim that the government has a duty to offer art to its citizens.

However, governments need to balance their spending and spend wisely on art, especially when there are many other important issues. In many countries, a large proportion of people still do not have easy access to education 'and medical care. And in some places, famine and poverty are still national concerns. Considering the fact that the budget of the government is not unlimited and investment in art usually in the form of museums is not a small amount of money, the government should give its priority to some other issues.

To conclude, I believe that the government have a responsibility to provide its citizens with art and to make art available to the public and that the proportion of investment in art should be carefully decided as the government is entrusted by its people to improve the quality of life.

Some people think that art (such as painting and music) does not directly improve quality of people's life, so government should spend money on other areas. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Art has less connection with the higher quality of life, as some people contend. Therefore, they claim that government is supposed to allocate funds for other things such as public service and facilities. From my perspective, both material and spiritual needs of citizens should be satisfied as they are directly related to life quality.

On one hand, it is the social welfare and basic infrastructure funded by the authority that meet citizens’ physical demands. A good case is that sound and complete medical care system is an essential service which enables patients to receive accurate and timely treatment; apart from this, children in some poverty-stricken areas are not able to attend primary or secondary school, in which case, the state should fulfill their obligation to invest budget in compulsory education. In terms of public facilities, well-planned transportation system, spacious parks as well as libraries serve the purposes of providing a convenient and comfortable life for the masses. Considering that, policy makers who play a regulatory role in enhancing people’s living standards should regard those resources and services as the first matter of government’s agenda.

On the flip side, it is undeniable that art is the highest from of enjoyment, satisfyingindividual needs in spiritual and mental respects. A man does not live only by bread. Artistic projects such as exquisite sculptures in public exhibition centers, fine paintings in galleries and the concert of classic music in theaters do help people cultivate a better taste for arts and improve the sensitivity of beauty. What’s more, appreciating art works is deemed as an enduring solution to relieve modern people from the highly stressed work and life.

In conclusion, I agree that government should place priority on other tasks while arts deserve financial support as a person who lives in high life quality is not the one that is materially abundant but spiritually barren.(311 words)

Though some art forms, one perfect example of which is Hollywood movies, can bring in huge revenues for the government, most arts, like painting and music, do not directly bear on our life. However, this does not follow that the government should not invest in such arts.

In the first place, even if arts, when compared with education, health care system, and technologies, do not help much with the material aspects of our life, they do have much to do with our emotional and spiritual life. In fact, if we admit that our happiness consists not only in material contentment but also in spiritual satisfaction, we will have to admit that our life could not do without arts. When we feel sad, we can stand in front of the smiling Monalisa and very soon we may recover from our sadness and regain our peace of mind; we when are happy, we can dance with a beautiful piece of music, which will multiply our happiness.

Besides, arts may have an even more important role to play in getting people of a troubled nation united as one and fight the problem they have. We all know how Winston Churchill’s powerful speech had encouraged British people to fight Nazis bravely in the Second World War, and how Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” had motivated African Americans to pursue the social justice they deserved in the Civil Rights Movement. Today, arts that have appeared right after 9/11 terrorist attack have in the same way effectively brought Americans together in face of the nightmare.

In summary, far from being illusionary and useless as some people might think, arts can be very important in our life, both to the individuals and to the nation as a whole. To maintain a healthy and robust society, therefore, the government should not marginalize the arts.

1). 表格题的动态题解题思路大致可以分为四步:①先相减(年份大的减小的);②后分类(上升一类,下降一类);③挑出极值(最大值);④挑选数值(倍数关系,变化明显的数值);

2). 线图的解题思路大致分为两种:第一种:①按整条线来写(可以把相同趋势的线放在一起,也可把相反趋势的线拿来做对比);②挑选重要信息(整体趋势,起点,重点,最高点,最低点);③整体作比较。第二种:①按时间区间来写(横轴对上去有共同拐点或交点的分为一段);②对比着写(强调交点,拐点,最高点,最低点);

3). 动态柱图解题思路:把各个柱子的顶点连起来就是几条线,所以按线图方式处理;

上升动词类:increase, rise, grow, jump, surge, shoot up, soar

下降动词类:decrease, decline, fall down, drop, sink, dip

持平动词类:remain the same, stabilize, remain stable, remain constant

最高点:reach the peak/top/highest point

Increase to the peak/top/highest point(所有上升类的动词都可以替换掉increase)

最低点:reach the bottom/lowest point

drop to the bottom/lowest point(所有下降类的动词都可以替换掉drop)

占了:occupy/make up/take up/account for/represent/constitute

Double

Increase/decrease three times

Approximately/About/around+数字

Eg: The number of aged people over 65 increased significantly from 1 million in 1940 to 1.2 million in .

Eg: There was a significant increase in the number of aged people over 65 from 1 million in 1940 to 1.2million in 2000.

句式三:时间+see/experience/witness+ 表示趋势的名词+in+ 变化的主体+ 数值

Eg: The period from 1940 to 2000 saw an upward trend in the number of aged people over 65 from 1 million to 1.2 million.

句式四:表示趋势的名词+be+seen/experienced/witnessed+in+变化的主体+时间

Eg: An upward trend was seen in the number of aged people over 65 from 1 million in 1940 to 1.2million in 2000.

1). 表格题的静态题解题思路大致可以分为三步:①先分类(横向,纵向或者横竖交替);②挑出极值(最大值与最小值);③挑选剩余数值(倍数关系,两个数值,变化明显的数值);

2). 静态柱图解题思路:第一种:①按颜色来分类;②总体做比较。第二种:①按特征分(把有相同特征的分在一起);

1). 占据:

take up / make up / occupy/ account for

Constitute / be the instrument of 致成物

the rest

the remainder

sth is in the charge of

due to/owing to/attributed/ascribed to/ for sth

60%= three-fifths/three out of five

5/6=five-sixths

a/the majority of = a large portion/ part/ share / proportion/ percentage

>80% (93%)= a lion’s share/maximal proportion of

5%= a minority of, a tiny portion

37.8%= comparatively a majority of (<50%的最大值)

87%/76% = comparatively a minority of

①A is the largest/smallest/longest...

②B is a close/far second with just+数字less.

或者:which is followed by B.

③Third comes C with only +数字

或者:C is close/far behind with +数字

或者:C takes third spot/place with +数字

④Following C comes D with +数字

⑤Finally/the rest is ,……

A occupied the maximal portion of the 研究对象, with 数字, while B accounted for comparatively less rate, with only _(占据), ranking second. Furthermore, the third, forth and fifth places(或者用数字)altogether of the 研究对象 was shared by C,D and E(共享). The remaining part of it was due to F, G, H, I and J which follow the same trend and taking sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth respectively.(剩余)

When all things are considered, young adults of today live more satisfying lives than those of their parents, in my opinion。

这句话当中的“when all things are considered”和“in my opinion“都显得多余。

Young adults of today live more satisfying lives than their parents。

Due to the fact that our grandparents were under an obligation to help their parents, they did not have the options that young people have at this point in time。

Because our grandparents were obligated to help their parents, they did not have the options that young people have now。

The farm my grandfather grew up on was large in size。

The farm my grandfather grew up on was large。

My grandfather grew up on a large farm。

My grandfather has said over and over again that he had to work on his parents' farm。

这里的over and over again就可以改为repeatedly,显得更为简洁:

My grandfather has said repeatedly that he had to work on his parents' farm。

The situation that resulted in my grandfather's not being able to study engineering was that his father needed help on the farm。

My grandfather couldn't study engineering because his father needed help on the farm。

There were 25 cows on the farm that my grandfather had to milk every day. It was hard work for my grandfather。

My grandfather worked hard. He had to milk 25 cows on the farm every day。

My grandfather worked hard milking 25 cows daily。

Dairy cows were raised on the farm, which was located100 kilometers from the nearest university and was in an area that was remote。

The dairy farm was located in a remote area, 100 kilometers to the nearest university。

In the fall, not only did the cows have to be milked, but also the hay was mowed and stacked by my grandfather's family。

In the fall, my grandfather's family not only milked the cow but also mowed and stacked the hay。

My grandfather didn't have time to stand around doing nothing with his school friends。

My grandfather didn't have time to loiter with his school friends。

Profits from the farm were not large. Sometimes they were too small to meet the expenses of running a farm. They were not sufficient to pay for a university degree。

Profits from the farm were sometimes too small to meet operational expenses, let alone pay for a university degree。

People today can shop, work and communicate with others via the Internet. They do not need to do these face-to-face. Is it a positive or negative development?

Nowadays, many daily tasks can be accomplished without us meeting other face to face. Generally, I tend to believe it leads to many desirable resuits.

It is evident that fulfilling some tasks over modern technologies such as the Internet and other computer networks is highly efficient. In the past, if people had the need to do shopping, they had to go to the shopping mall; but today, all can be done with the click of a mouse and the goods will be delivered home, even at a lower price. Also, we used to need to go to the bank and wait for a desperately long line if we wanted to make a transaction from one bank account to another: instead, now we may comfortably make use of the self-service banking at home. Actually, almost all banks and financial organizations are well-connected to the Internet, which promotes the development of international trade and world economy dramatically.

Thus, obviously, the efficiency of life has been improved significantly due to the technological advances.

However, that is not to say that lack of face-to-face communication brings about no problems. One of the biggest concerns is safety. With the increasing virus threats and well-trained hackers, online deals are well exposed to all kinds of risks and losses, for example, the wide-spread problem of identity theft. Therefore, when making the most of the desirable changes brought about by technology, we should be aware of its potential downsides and find a way to minimize the negative impacts.

Overall, there are both favorable and unfavorable effects on individuals and society if everyday tasks are performed without the need of seeing each other. But I am quite optimistic about its future, and I think people and countries alike will benefit from it on a new level soon.

People today can shop, work and communicate with others via the Internet. They don't need to do these face to face. Is it a positive or negative development?

We live in an age of electronic communication, and the Internet does help us in a lot of ways. Yet the fact that we have computers and smartphones readily available does not mean that we do not need face-to-face communication any more.

Electronic technology has dramatically changed the ways we shop, work and communicate and has brought about a myriad of benefits. From emails to instant messaging to Skype to social media, the Internet has made our communication faster and easier than ever before. Besides, the cost of the Internet communication is significantly lower than the traditional means of communication like face-to-face meetings. The technology connects us to our online suppliers, colleagues in the workplace, families and friends from all over the globe for just a small fraction of the cost required of an offline meeting.

That being said, scientific evidence is mounting that the advent of digital technology is having a detrimental effect on interpersonal relationships. Everything from body language and facial expressions to attentiveness and engagement can indicate different thoughts and feelings—each of which can only be truly observed through face-to-face communication. So, despite the clear upsides of digital communication, there are circumstances under which there is no substitute for face-to-face communication. Meanwhile, the complete dependence on the Internet for communication may result in the sense of alienation and depression which will keep us apart from the rest of the real world.

In conclusion, it is necessary to balance those Internet interactions with face-to-face communication. It is hard to say how far the Internet would go, but face-to-face communication has not yet been and never will be replaced by technology.(274 words)

In such a digital age, which features the wide available of internet to individuals, users are able to deal with a bunch of daily tasks online, ranging from doing shopping, arranging and completing working projects as well as interacting with strangers and friends. In my view, this tendency is largely beneficial for people’s work and life.

To commence with, it is conceivable that telecommuting saves time for employees. Without spending time on the way to and from work, office workers have more disposable time and the flexible schedule, in which case, they could work the hours they wished and have a better rest. In addition, online communication enlarges the circle of friends. More specifically, social networking websites is deemed as an effective way to make connections with people with similar interests and goals. What’s more, long distance communication relieves couples or families from lovesickness and homesickness. Even though living thousands of miles away from hometown, they can stare at the faces of their beloved and listen to their voice.

In terms of online shopping, it has been thought as the indispensable part of modern life due to its convenience. Instead of going to malls, the only thing consumers have to do is viewing the high-definition pictures and click the button of payment, the commodities they choose would be delivered at home in several days or appointed time. This is especially useful for people working on a tight schedule or in times of inclement weather. Undeniably, customers can purchase goods all over the world; in consequence, there is no need for them to travel to foreign countries for some fancy dresses or handbags.

On the flip side, a lack of face-to-face contact does generate harmful effects, among which the most obvious is that the loss of interpersonal skills in reality. In fact, body language such as eye contact and gestures, and social psychology laid emphasis on in real way are invalid and ignored in virtual world, making people incompetent and unskilled in face-to-face situations.

In conclusion, although the dimension of communication would be diminished, I strongly contend that the increasing popularity of communication via internet benefits people from all walks of life.

1,沒有相匹配题型;

都不可以应用习语,或是一小段文案的表述(譬如说a lot of, heaps of, tons of这些),也不能引用名言警句.

Does the younger generation know best?

Arguments

1. The young are better educated and more broad-minded.

2. The young enjoy a lot more things than the old: they have money to spend; they are less dependent on their parents; they grow up more quickly; and they enjoy more freedom.

3. The young question the values and assumptions of the older generation and they are right.

4. The young enjoy more freedom and have a stronger sense of responsibility.

5. The old tend to settle differences by conventional politics and violence.

6. Some old people do not have noble ambitions and only strive for material possessions.

7. The old are unable to keep away from the rat race, in which they have lost touch with the most important things in life.

8. The old can learn from the young. Young people are more devoted to their friends.

9. The young know how to enjoy work and leisure and not to be inhibited.

10. The young live in the present rather than in the past or future.

Counter-arguments

1. The young do not assume their responsibility; they evade it.

2. The young have too much money and they are spoiled.

3. The young are only interested in themselves.

4. The young seek material possessions like clothing, cars, etc. They do not wish to work for them.

5. The young should feel grateful to the older generation, who have created a good life for them.

6. The old provide the young with a good education and money to spend.

7. The older generation fought in the two world wars. They faced real problems, but the young have an easier life.

8. Young people have too much freedom and have no sense of morality.

9. The older generation is too kind and soft with the young. A tougher policy is needed and might work wonders.

10. Young people's outlook on the world is very bleak and they are sceptical of everything.

Does parental permissiveness affect children's development?

Arguments

1. The excessive pennissiveness of present-day parents is doing more harm than good to children and society as well.

2. Children should develop the habit of working and living independently and, meanwhile, practise the virtue of being filial to their parents.

3. Children who have a surfeit of happiness in their childhood often emerge like stodgy puddings and fail to make a success of life.

4. The fact that young people nowadays are self-centred, indifferent and inconsiderate of others is largely the outcome of parental permissiveness in their childhood.

5. Parental authority in a family helps a child to develop his character healthily.

6. Parents should exercise strict discipline over their children because, the more permissive the parents are, the more rebellious against their parents the children will become.

7. Lavish care and excessive permissiveness will only give rise to hedonism among the younger generation.

8. If one lets the child do whatever he wants to, he will ruin the child for life.

9. We have to admit the fact that we now have got a generation of spoilt, selfcentred brats with no respect for their elders.

10. The spread of juvenile delinquency in our age is largely due to parental pennissiveness.

Counter-argmnents

1. More care for children is not the same as permissiveness to them.

2. The truth is that parents nowadays do not take enough care of their children and often neglect their development because the parents are only interested in their careers.

3. Parents are not at all permissive to their children. Violence often takes place in families in which children are abused.

4. Only a relaxed family atmosphere can help the physical and psychological growth of children.

5. To let children do what they like contributes to their independence and competence in their adult lives.

6. It is unfair to blame parents for the spread of juvenile delinquency. There are a lot of other causes involved.

7. Many cases show that children leave home and become members of street gangs just because they can not bear authoritarian control over them by their parents.

8. Strict discipline does not always work in terms of developing children's personal qualities. Too much pressure on children leads to rebellion and other extreme actions.

9. Parents are not justified in using violence to keep discipline and maintain their authority over the children.

10. Children are human beings, too. They need to be protected instead of being frequently scolded or physically abused.

Advertising can tell you a lot about a country.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

Model Answer:

Every country has its own culture and traditions. There is no doubt that an advertising campaign conducted in Russia will not have the same affect here in the United States. Let us take for example advertisement of food and restaurants.

A huge amount of fast food stands suggest their services for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper here in Houston. The competition is very strong. Every week you get in your mail-box an envelope with different types of discounts in exchange for visiting them or ordering pizza. Watching TV you are also from time to time invited to visit a restaurant in order to taste some delicious food. It is not because it is easy to make money cooking but because the demand for such service is high. First of all, people like to go out sometimes to have dinner with friends. Second of all, it is often impossible to drive home for lunch. It can be time consuming.

As for Russia, it is a great tradition to have dinner at home with the family and go to the restaurant for big holidays. Additionally fast food is not popular in Russia. So you will see advertisements of yogurts, coffee, dairy products and juice instead of restaurants and fast food stands.

In conclusion I would like to add that in order to succeed in advertising campaign especially on the international market company must know traditions, language and history of the country.

Write about the following topic:

It is becoming more and more difficult to escape the influence of the media on our lives.

Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of living in a media rich society.

Model Answer:

The media is about communication and I suppose most of us would agree that, as human beings we need to communicate. We need to know what is going on in the world generally; we want to be entertained and to keep in touch with people. Older media, such as newspapers, radio and TV help us do this, but the newer media, particularly the internet and mobile phones go further. We have more choice in terms of what we watch or who we talk to.

I have an I-Phone which allows me - just by using one device - to make phone calls, use the internet, listen to music, play games and watch videos. And it's all immediate, and portable. It makes you feel in control, but there arc disadvantages too.

People are always texting and emailing each other and if they don't have their phone or laptop around, they feel cut off. Also, have you seen a group of teenagers in a cafe where they're not talking to each other, but using their phones? It's a very common sight these days, which many people feel is worrying, as we seem to prefer using technology to face-to-face communication.

We are also spoilt for choice - perhaps too much choice. There are so many TV channels, but so many of the programmes are poor quality. There's also so much advertising all around us, trying to persuade us to buy things we don't really need. To survive in such a society, you have to be very aware of the power the media can have over you, your actions and your opinions, and try not to let it control your life.

To my mind, there's no doubt we live in a media-rich society, and there's nothing we can do about that. What we can do is use the media responsibly and not let it use us.

Scientists and the news media are presenting ever more evidence of climate change. Governmnets cannot be expected to solve this problem. It is the responsibility of individuals to change their lifestyle to prevent further damage.

What are your views?

Model Answer:

Recently scientists worried about climate change have urged governments to introduce measures to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that are seen as its main cause. Simoultaneouslty, politicians and environmentalists have urged individuals to make changes to their lifestyle. I shall argue that governments and individuals should take join responsibility for this problem.

Firstly, industry accounts for a large proportion of the greenhouse gas emissions, and this can only be controlled by government action. Measures could be taken to discourage pollution, such as limiting or taxing the use of fossil fuels. Alternatively, subsidies could be offered to industries to clean up their production processes. If these ideas were adopted, I believe that businesses would regard pollution as a financial issue.

Secondly, only discussion between governments can ensure that solutions are successful. The Kyoto agreement, for example, tried to reach global agreement on how to address the problem. Without such co-operating, it seems to me that efforts to reduce fuel consumption are unlikely to be effective.

However, national and international policies will only succeed if individuals also change their lifestyle. For example, people could think more carefully about how they use energy in their homes. By using less electricity, installing energy-efficient light bulbs and electrical appliances, or investing in solar panels, individuals can make a real difference.

In addition, I think individual attitudes to transport need to change. Instead of making short tips by car, people could choose to walk, cycle, or take a bus. Since cars are a major source of the problem, changing our behaviour in this area would have a major impact.

In conclusion, I would maintain that only a combination of international agreement, national policies, and changes in individual behaviour will succeed in preventing further damage to the environment.

There is no doubt that traffic and pollution from vehicles have become huge problems, both in cities and on motorways everywhere. (I think that) Solving these problems is likely to need more than a simple rise in the price of petrol.

I think / my view is that 表明个人观点,more than 却能紧扣主题:不能仅仅通过提升油价改善交通和环境。

While it is undeniable that private car use is one of the main causes of the increase in traffic and pollution, higher fuel costs are unlikely to limit the number of drivers for long. (解释原因) As this policy would also affect the cost of public transport, it would be very unpopular with everyone who needs to travel on the roads. But there are various other measures that could be implemented that would have a huge effect on these problems.

I think to tackle the problem of pollution, cleaner fuels need to be developed. (This is because) The technology is already available to produce electric cars that would be both quieter and cleaner to use. (Therefore) Persuading manufacturers and travellers to adopt this new technology would be a more effective strategy for improving air quality, especially in cities.

However, traffic congestion will not be solved by changing the type of private vehicle people can use. To do this, we need to improve the choice of public transport services available to travellers. For example, if sufficient sky trains and underground train systems were built and effectively maintained in our major cities, then traffic on the roads would be dramatically reduced. Long-distance train and coach services should be made attractive and affordable alternatives to driving your own car for long journeys.

In conclusion, I think that long-term traffic and pollution reductions would depend on educating the public to use public transport more, and on governments using public money to construct and run efficient systems.

Some people believe that unpaid community service should be a compulsory part of high school programmes (for example working for a charity, improving the neighbourhood or teaching sports to younger children). To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It has been suggested that high school students should be involved in unpaid community services as a compulsory part of high school programmes. Most of the colleges are already providing opportunities to gain work experience, however these are not compulsory. In my opinion, sending students to work in communities services is a good idea as it can provide them with many lots of valuable skills.

Life skills are very important and by doing voluntary work, students can learn how to communicate with others and work in a team but also how to manage their time and improve their organizational skills. Nowadays, unfortunately, teenagers do not have many after-school activities. After-school clubs are no longer that popular and students mostly go home and sit in front of the TV, browse internet or play video games.

By giving them compulsory work activities with charitable or community organisations, they will be encouraged to do something more creative Skills gained through compulsory work will not only be an asset on their CV but also increase their employability. Students will also gain more respect towards work and money as they will realize that it is not that easy to earn them and hopefully will learn to spend them in a more practical way.

By giving them compulsory work activities with charitable or community organisations, students may increase their employability, earn a higher salary and make more contribution to the society.

Healthy life balance and exercise are strongly promoted by the NHS, and therefore any kind of spare time charity work will prevent from sitting and doing nothing. It could also possibly reduce the crime level in the high school age group. If students have activities to do, they will not to be bored and come up with silly ideas which can be dangerous for them or their surroundings.

In conclusion, I think this is a very good idea, and I hope this programme will be put into action for high schools’ colleges shortly.

1) Weak:There is no opportunity for promotion.

Revision:No opportunity for promotion exists.

2) Weak:Here are the books you ordered.

Revision:The books you ordered have arrived.

Weak:The trees are bare. The grass is brown. The landscape seems drab.

Revision:The brown grass and bare trees form a drab landscape.

Or:The landscape, bare and brown, begged for spring green.

1) Weak:The team members are good players.

Revision:The team members play well.

2) Weak:One worker's plan is the elimination of tardiness.

Revision:One worker's plan eliminates tardiness.

1、Weak:The organization has been supported by charity.

Better:Charity has supported the organization.

2、Weak:The biscuits were stacked on a plate.

Better:Mother stacked the biscuits on a plate.

1、Poor:My supervisor went past my desk.

Better:My supervisor sauntered (=walked slowly) past my desk.

2、Poor:She is a careful shopper.

Better:She compares prices and quality.

1、Wordy:My little sister has a preference for chocolate milk.

Improved:My little sister prefers chocolate milk.

2、Wordy:We are in receipt of your letter and intend to follow your recommendations.

Improved:We have received your letter and intended to follow your recommendation.

3、Redundant:We had a serious crisis at school yesterday when our chemistry laboratory caught fire.

Improved:We had a crisis at school yesterday when our chemistry laboratory caught fire.

4、Redundant:My sister and I bought the same, identical dress in different stores.

Improved:My sister and I bought the same dress in different stores.

1、Weak:They will not agree to his proposals in any shape or form.

Improved:They will not agree to any of his proposals.

2、Weak:I need her financial input before I can guesstimate our expenditures next fall.

Improved:I need her financial figures before I can estimate our expenditures next fall.

Writing Task 2

1) 题目和问题-要认清题目的要求和找出题目中想问的问题;

2) 介绍-这是用来表达文章的大意,如果要写的是一篇评论文,笔者的方向也要在这里表达出来;

3) 主体-如主体分为三段的话,通常前两段是观点和理由,后一段是用来平衡讨论的相反观点;

(Introduction)

(Body)

与介绍文一样,主体文每段的第一句都是用来说明整段的大意,之后的内容可用连接词(如However, Although, Notonly, Also, Even though, Consequently, In addition等等)或顺序词(Firstly, Secondly, Thirdly ...)

Many people…

Others…

Those who disagree believe that ... / may argue that ... /point out that ...

However, I strongly disagree ...

Nothing could be further from the truth (Strongdisagreement) because ...

In fact, ...

... for the following reasons: I find it hard to agree...

Nevertheless, I cannot agree ... (Mild disagreement)

Perhaps this is true, but it cannot be denied that ...

This is partly true, then again ... (Concessionaldisagreement)

(Conclusion)

(In general, To sum up, Toconclude, In conclusion等等)来串联整段。

It is shown that many criminals have a low level of education. Some people argue that the best way to reduce crime is to educate criminals in prison to help them find jobs when they leave prison. Do you agree or disagree?

Crime from the juvenile to the adults, obviously, has become an serious social problem, which cannot be ignored. Gradually, more people focus on the future of criminal released from the prison, and believe that to provide them educational opportunities does help the reduction of crime; as for me, I am an advocate of this idea.

As the major reason of high crime rate in today's society, low education level has been blamed. People without receiving enough education would be attempted easily, and do not have the equal and excellent skills to compete with others when looking for a job; besides, lacking sufficient moral knowledge to distinguish right from wrong contributes to go astray on their way to pursue the goals. It is worth providing the prisoners, especially committing minor crimes, with education opportunities before free, which not only can give them another chance to learn some practical skills and accumulate certain knowledge to find a job and start again after the sentence, but also decline the risk that they would turn to crime again.

On the other hand, educational opportunities in prison cannot be the universal solution of all the problems the prisoners face. The huge life pressure and the attitude from other citizens could lead them to go back to the old lifestyle, or even cause more serious problems to both the society and the individuals financially and mentally. However, no one can doubt the function of education as the basic mean to provide people and the society a brighter future; thus, though education cannot solve all the problems at once, it is necessary for a long time.

In conclusion, in spite of many causes in high crime rate, our society should realize the importance of education, and give all the criminals the second chance to do something right and have a better development in the future life.

Task:Many scientists believe that now we can study the behavior of a three-year-old child to see whether they will grow up to be criminals. To what extent do you think the human nature produces crimes? And how can we prevent children from growing up to be criminals?

Does a child’s performance at the age of 3 decide whether he or she would be a criminal in the future? Personally, I partially agree that gene defects in some cases indeed cause some illegal actions, while it is unwise to attribute all crimes to the gene problem, and my reasons will be explored as below.

Admittedly, to the extent of Geneticism, this assertion is reasonable, because some of human behaviors, attitudes and characteristics are determined by DNA, and there is always homeotypical continuity from inappropriate behaviors in childhood to criminality in adulthood. For example, symptoms of gene-based psychological abnormality, which stems from the imbalanced secretion of hormones in brain, can be reflected in the very young age as inattention, restlessness, apathy, the lack of guilt about wrongdoings, and unkindness to other children. In adulthood, there is a high possibility that these morbid emotional traits evolve into anti-social minds--specifically, disregarding of rights of others or rules of society, irresponsibility, aggressive personalities and misperceptions about the right and wrong.

However, I strongly believe this assertion is problematic, for the reason that it completely underestimates more fundamental influences of other aspects on children after their birth. Firstly, parents always play a key role in children’s formative education that directly shapes behaviors, minds and values of them. For example, poor parenting skills in daily life, such as violence and corporal punishment, tend to make personalities of children aggressive and rude, even irritable, which might turn into dangerous behaviors and anti-social minds in adulthood.

Besides, violent contents on the internet, TV programs and video games are also responsible for juvenile crimes. It is because youngsters, unlike adults, are lack of abilities to distinguish right from wrong. Therefore, too much violence in the virtual world could twist the social values of young viewers. As a result, they, more often than not, consider violence as the main or even only way to solve problems, thereby leading to crimes.

In conclusion, there are more factors that might result in delinquencies of the youth than genes, and the impacts from parents and media on children’s growth are bigger than that from DNA.

Task:Crimes committed by young people are increasing in major cities throughout the world. Discuss the causes and how to solve this problem?

Nowadays, it has been reported that there has been an increasing number of crimes committed by youngsters in major cities all over the world. What causes this phenomenon and what people could do to resolve the problem have been widely discussed. In this essay, I would investigate the reasons and suggest some possible solutions accordingly.

There are two main reasons why this kind of crimes is on the increase. Firstly, violence on the internet, TV programs and video games is responsible for this situation. It is because youngsters, unlike adults, are lack of abilities to distinguish right from wrong. Therefore, too much violence in the virtual world could render young people aggressive. As a result, they, more often than not, consider violence as the main or even only way to solve problems, thereby leading to crimes. Secondly, low employment rate in many big cities around the world could be another major reason. Most countries are experiencing economic plateau or even backwards due to global economic crisis occurring a few years ago. Consequently, many businesses and factories have decided to cut off their staff or ten d to employ experienced workers over young graduates. This means some youngsters become jobless spontaneously once they graduate. Some of them even turn to commit crimes to make a living or get revenge on society.

In order to solve the problem, some main methods are advised accordingly. The first solution is to apply censorship and classification in issuing programs. This means governments or non-governmental organizations should censor the violent and prostitute contents of programs and label them such as “adult only” or “viewers excluded below 14” before programs are publicized. This would help to keep youngsters from too much violence on programs away. Another method is to carry out free job training programs designed closely related to the demand of the job market. After training, youngsters, more of ten than not, can expect better chances of being employed. Other ways could include tax-reduction policy for university graduates self-employment, providing paid social service positions for youngsters, etc.

To conclude, methods such as censorship on programs and free job training for youngsters are strongly recommended too much violence on programs and low employment.

Many people are afraid of leaving house because of crime. Some think more action should be taken to prevent crime, but others think little can be done. What is your view?(题目来源:9月3日大陆雅思大作文)

An ongoing topic of debate in traffic safety world has been whether the age for driving should be raised or not. Typically, the legal age to drive alone needs to be 17 or so, but there is a proposal, underpinned by some groups.

It is fairly hard to imagine that home has become the only place of safety in modern society, where residents are worried about various kinds of crimes, street robbery, car theft and even shooting. This is obligation of the government to protect the civil life and work, which, I think, could be classified into three aspects.

First, deterring potential crimes is considered as a direct way to improve living environment for residents. Some strict laws and regulations should be imposed on specific crime cases. For example, prolonging the term of imprisonment could be an effective way to deter crimes, like theft and robbery. Also, lowering the minimum crime age on punishment is another solution to ordinary crimes because younger criminals are liable to escape from punishments.

Second, the high rate of crimes is derived partly from the widening gap of living in cities. Therefore, creating more job opportunities after investing in manufactures and public services could, to some degree, bring about stable incomes. Reduction in the number of the homeless and unemployed contributes to decline in the level of social chaos and conflicts. When everyone is satisfied with the company they work for and the salary they are paid, there may be no need for them to risk committing crimes.

Third, popularity of primary and secondary education or opening more technical schools is an urgent task. People who live in slums with minimum education more probably commit crimes than those with decent education and comparatively higher social status. Therefore, the level of education reflects living condition and public security in communities, which for a long term is regarded as the foundation of civilized society.

In conclusion, there are plenty of solutions to crimes and social problems, which depend on effectiveness of activities and continuous efforts from both government and individuals.

Young people who commit serious crimes should be punished in the same way as adults. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

范文:

Nowadays, there is an increasing concern that there are many young people who commit crimes. However, some people argue that these criminals should receive the same kind of punishment as adults. I agree with the view that if they have done it more than once, there is little reason to protect them from harsh punishment.

Firstly, it is obvious that some underage criminals do not have a clear understanding of the consequences of behaviour when they make the mistake for the first time. The main point of punishment to this group is to educate them the importance of obeying the law, rather than punishing them for being ignorant of the law. Therefore giving them a softer punishment could be enough to prevent them from doing further harm to the society.

Moreover, the shortcoming in education is the root cause contributing to the growing juvenile delinquency. Chances are that if children receive appropriate education in schools and families, they will get into trouble in the future. So the favourable education must be available before children having habit of unacceptable behaviour.

That is not to say that if these underage criminals never learn the lesson and keep crossing the bottom line of the legal system, a severer treatment is still unnecessary in this case. The law could not forgive a law breaker again and again, which can trigger people’s doubt on legal justice. So no matter how young they are, breaking the law seriously for the second time deserves the equivalent punishment as adults.

In sum, I believe that those young people who have only committed a serious crime once deserve a less harsh and punishment and more rigorous education whereas those who keep ignoring the consequences of their wrong behaviour should be treated the same as adults. Only in this way can the social justice be respected to a large extent.
