1. 通过精确定位来排除

如果前两种方法均不可以使用的话,我们就只能将选项精确的在文中定位,找出选项和阅读文章中的对应关系,注意选项中的同义代换与原文是否对应。有时会出现这样的情况,选项中有四个是和题目的关键词定位在一个段内的,但其中一个选项却定位在了另一个段落内,那么这个选项就是答案。

注意:正确答案一般是作者在文中明确反对过的,或者是根本未提到,再或者就是定位的段落未提到的(选项的关键词落在别的段落)说法。

2. 通过强对比形式来排除

如果题目中是关于A的提问,但是原文中没有直接给出与A相关的描述。不过,文中出现了与B相关的特征描述,而B呢正好是与A形成强烈对比的对象。那么我们只需要把B的特征取非就可以得到答案了。一般文章中会出现unlike,in contrast to, compared with,阅读的过程中遇到该类别的关键词注意要做笔记。

3. 发现无关信息直接排除

如果某一个选项和文章大意没有关系或者根本没有提到过,那么它一定就是正确答案了。因此,在阅读的过程中要留意文章每段的中心意思,理出文章的写作思路,以此来作为细节判断的依据。

如果能够将题目定位到某一段,那么就可以用该段的TS(Topic Sentence 主题句)来进行排除,和TS无关的就是正确选项。

It has long been known that the rate of oxidative metabolism (the process that uses oxygen to convert food into energy) in any animal has a profound effect on its living patterns. The high metabolic rate of small animals, for example, gives them sustained power and activity per unit of weight, but at the cost of (at the cost of: adv.以...为代价) requiring constant consumption of food and water. Very large animals, with their relatively low metabolic rates, can survive well on a sporadic food supply, but can generate little metabolic energy per gram of body weight. If only oxidative metabolic rate is considered, therefore, one might assume that smaller, more active, animals could prey on larger ones, at least if they attacked in groups. Perhaps they could if it were not for anaerobic glycolysis, the great equalizer.

Anaerobic glycolysis is a process in which energy is produced, without oxygen, through the breakdown of muscle glycogen into lactic acid and adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the energy provider. The amount of energy that can be produced anaerobically is a function of the amount of glycogen present—in all vertebrates about 0.5 percent of their muscles’ wet weight. Thus the anaerobic energy reserves of a vertebrate are proportional to the size of the animal. If, for example, some predators had attacked a 100-ton dinosaur, normally torpid, the dinosaur would have been able to generate almost instantaneously, via anaerobic glycolysis, the energy of 3,000 humans at maximum oxidative metabolic energy production. This explains how many large species have managed to compete with their more active neighbors: the compensation for a low oxidative metabolic rate is glycolysis.

There are limitations, however, to this compensation. The glycogen reserves of any animal are good, at most, for only about two minutes at maximum effort, after which only the normal oxidative metabolic source of energy remains. With the conclusion of a burst of activity, the lactic acid level is high in the body fluids, leaving the large animal vulnerable to attack until the acid is reconverted, via oxidative metabolism, by the liver into glucose, which is then sent (in part) back to the muscles for glycogen resynthesis. During this process the enormous energy debt that the animal has run up (run up: v.迅速积累) through anaerobic glycolysis must be repaid, a debt that is proportionally much greater for the larger vertebrates than for the smaller ones. Whereas the tiny shrew can replace in minutes the glycogen used for maximum effort, for example, the gigantic dinosaur would have required more than three weeks. It might seem that this interminably long recovery time in a large vertebrate would prove a grave disadvantage for survival. Fortunately, muscle glycogen is used only when needed and even then only in whatever quantity is necessary. Only in times of panic or during mortal combat would the entire reserves be consumed.

1. 找文章主旨

只需读每段首尾两句总结出文章主旨即可。常见的阅读文章有4种:

c)非科技文章,人文类,有鲜明的观点,语言偏于抽象、晦涩;

2. 回答关于全文的问题,分两类

但同时,我们在阅读文章的过程中也常常会碰到这样的一种单词,那就是专有名词,尤其是涉及全文主题的专有名词,难道我们就必须一一认识它?答案显然是否定的。什么叫做认识专有名词?从英到汉的翻译叫做认识?还是知道专有名词的特征叫做认识?读者请想想看,我们在阅读理解中有没有遇到过这样的问题提法:

GRE阅读:解析倒装句

在GRE阅读中,考生往往会因为倒装结构的不清晰导致无法理顺整个句子的结构与来龙去脉,所谓倒装也就是为了实现强调句子的某个成分对原有句子结构进行的语言顺序上的某些调整和变化。某些情况往往说话人也会为了某种修辞目的采用倒装结构,修辞目的的倒装结构以文学作品居多。通常在考试的情况下,试题命题人往往会出于某种迷惑考生的目的,有意将句子结构进行改写,在GRE阅读的很多文章中我们都可以发现这种情况。下面我们就结合几个典型的实例来对倒装结构进行分析常见倒装搭配的几种情况:

及物动词加介词:固定词组的固定搭配中,经常出现倒装情况。

例如:bring A to B,写作:Bring to B A例:Yet Walter’s argument , however deficient , does point to one of the most serious weaknesses of capitalism-namely , that it brings to predominant positions in a society people who ,no matter how legitimately they have earned their material rewards , often lack those other qualities that evoke affection or admiration.

The patient was taken good care of, and began to recover immediately.

The patient was taken good care of, and immediately began to recover.

这两个句子的意思都是病人受到了很好的照顾,很快开始康复。但第一句的意义重心是immediately, 强调了康复的速度,而第二句的意义重心则在于“康复”而不强调“马上”。

另外上面的第一个例句中的倒装部分还考虑了一个因素,那就是使之读起来不至于让人产生头重脚轻的感觉,而“people who....or admiration”带有一个较长的定语从句,所以就放在了末尾,另外作者在本句中所强调的部分显然是“often lack those other qualities that evoke affection or admiration,却常常缺乏其它那些能唤起他人爱戴和钦佩的品质”另外“no matter how......material rewards”为本句当中的一个插入语成分。

GRE阅读的pre-knowledge到底有没有用?对于这点,很多老师和学生的看法都不太相同,考虑到GRE阅读有两个难点:句子晦涩难懂和做题时间非常有限,一遍必须读懂,

如果你事先对某一概念了解了,那么pre-knowledge绝对可以帮你化险为夷。但是不要把自己的观点过多的带入到文章,这样会影响你的理解。而当你在阅读的时候读到了自己不熟悉的概念,可以Notebook或者Word等随时记下感兴趣或者不知道想要查阅的东西,或是直接上GOOGLE搜索一下相关概念,对于以后的阅读积累也是很有帮助的。

GRE阅读提高技巧3:主动去阅读

这是一个再强调也不过分的习惯。做GRE阅读练习时,积极的心态十分必要,也就是主动去读,消极被动的阅读态度和习惯会让你读完一篇文章根本不知道讲了什么,无形中便降低了学习效率。而主动读文章最好的方法就是PEAR法。这个不是梨的意思,而是四点首字母的集合:

1. Pause,读完每个段落停下来;

2. Evaluate,总结大意,思考此段落的作用;

3. Anticipate,预期下一段会讲什么;

4. Reassess,读完下一段再对第二步的evaluate进行评估。

读下一段接着继续PEAR直到全文读完,Reassess全文并清晰了解全文的行文方式和逻辑构思。

GRE阅读提高技巧4:Passage Map

读完文章用10-15秒在脑子里画一下这个文章的Map,行文方式,每一段讲了什么,作者态度。这是最重要的10到15秒,很多考生忽视了这10到15秒直接跳去做题,这样你不但对整篇文章做不到心中有数,更会造成读了后面忘了前面。

你在每一次读完一篇GRE文章,都需要在脑子里形成一个Passage Map,这是非常重要的。

GRE阅读:要多了解外国知识

网上都说平时要多看什么economist什么的,试问有几个人会真正为了GRE去看?我的建议就是,大家可以抽一点时间,利用相关资料(比如 wikipedia),多去了解一下GRE社科类阅读爱考的知识。以往年经验来看,GRE社科类阅读非常喜欢考黑人文学Black literature,黑人音乐Black music(尤其是Jazz),妇女(包括妇女地位的改变,妇女文学),艺术类包括impressionist、modernist等。

像那种长阅读,说的好像是什么impressionist(印象派)和modernist(现实主义)的东东。由于对这方面毫无了解,所以读这篇文章毫无感觉。我不是要大家去补习美国文化的知识,这工程量太大。

另外,GRE考试阅读务必多留意一下上述知识的代表人物!比如Ragtime就是Jazz的代表人物及一种风格。并不是要求大家知道这个人物做了什么,只需要混个眼熟,考试的时候万一碰到一大串人名,能对其中一两个有点眼熟,能大概猜测出来是关于什么的就行!等到时候文章做得比较熟了,那时往往你自己也大概了解了社科类的阅读喜欢考哪些领域了。

GRE阅读:长文章如何攻克

1、读原文 GRE阅读的基本做题方法,就是先读原文再看题目,看过题目后再根据题目定位回原文,所以读原文是做一篇阅读的第一步。有些读者已经养成了先读题目再看原文的阅读习惯,其实,做题的顺序要因阅读特点和出题方式而异,GRE阅读题目的出题顺序和原文几乎没有任何联系,也就是说第一道题可能考了原文的末尾,而最后一道题可能考的是原文的开始,故先读题目再读原文对做题没有任何帮助,反而有可能扰乱读者理解原文内在的逻辑结构。

2、读原文的同时对重点、考点做标记 做标记是指在读文章的时候用简单的符号记录所读重点内容,这应该和读文章同步进行,标记可以轻轻做在试卷边缘,也可以另外写在草稿纸上。所标记的主要目的是为了读完选项之后能快速、准确的定位,这个步骤要求读者熟悉常考考点,对应做标记的内容烂熟于胸,这样才能不费时间的给自己下一步的定位作准标记。

3、读题干、选项 读题干的过程也是个找题干特征的过程,看看题干所述和自己所做标记的内容有没有联系,如果有,则可以直接定位,故定位最主要的基础是题干与标记之间的联系。有时候题干可能没有可以捕捉的特征,这时读者不妨从选项下手,选项中也时常会有明显的特征反映出它与原文中的重点内容之间的相关性。

4、定位 定位指的是确定练习题针对原文中什么位置的内容发问,通常通过题干和选项的特征词来找,判断了原文所述的位置之后,就可以找原文和答案之间的对应关系了,绝大多数题目都可以通过找题干和选项的特征词准确的定位到原文某处。

5、(排除干扰选项后)按文字对应原则选答案 GRE考试的备选答案都是五个,通常很少有练习题能让读者非常直接的判断出正确答案,总有1-2个迷惑性比较大的选项,所以,考生不妨先竖读各选相,排除一些明显错误的选项,然后再对剩下的进行细致的比较,通过原文和选项之间的文字对应关系,进行选择。

在GRE考试中,长篇阅读的数量较少,基本上每个VERBAL SECTION都只会有一篇,而短阅读数量则相对较多,可能在3篇左右。而在具体题目数量上,一篇长阅读一般附带4道题,而短篇阅读则附带1-2道题,阅读部分题目数量占据GRE语文部分题数的一半左右。

1. GRE短阅读解题思路分析

短阅读如果只有一段,那么考生需要读懂文章的前两句,因为第一句很有可能是背景,读懂了对理解文章的中心帮助有限,第二句应该提到主旨;如果第一段全是背景的话,那就说明这个短阅读出题比较偏。如果短阅读分2、3段,第二段的第一句要仔细体会,很可能是文章主旨。

2. GRE长阅读解题步骤讲解

长阅读篇幅很多,但是也是有规律可循,因为每篇文章都有固定的行文规定。

1. 读了第一段,就应该知道作者说了什么。 是提出一种现象并解释;还是提出一个观点并举例说明;还是提出流行观点然后质疑,并提出新观点。如果是反驳,反驳的是理论还是支持此理论的事例或实验?作者对所提出的这些观点抱什么态度等等。

2. 在看完第二句和第三句后,考生就应该知道此段的结构,比如是举例说明作者观点,还是分别驳斥作者反对的理论或是观点。继续读的过程中,大家要很快地读细节,能做到读完知道细节是什么,是一个实验,还是一个人的观点以及此人是谁等等。

3. 最后一段一般都包括作者的态度变化或是理论的提出。要读懂内容,就需要找关键词。在阅读时,大家要注意对关键词的挑选:表示观点态度的副词和形容词、理论观点中的关键名词等。无论什么题型,答案都在关键词附近。所以对关键词的印象很重要。

这句话另外一个难以理解的地方是more of the preindustrial European population than the 2 or 3 percent,表示的是在工业化以前的欧洲人口中超过了那2%到3%的人,亦即占97%到98%的人民群众。

解释:本句子在所有GRE或GMAT阅读题的题干中是最难读懂的题干之一。本句不但结构复杂,而且用词抽象,使得读者如果想根据语义来搞清楚谁修饰谁,也变得极为困难。分析如下:本句的主干是Which of the following provides an analogy for the details versus constraints distinction? Versus是一个介词,等于against,即体育比赛中的VS。其他的所有成分均是一些修饰成分。其中一个对答题最重要的限制条件是from human morphology, 说明这种类比的比较双方所比的必须是人类形态上的特征。

难句类型:插入语

解释:本句主语很长,而且谓语suggested与that引导的宾语从句间被插入语but did not prove隔开,造成阅读障碍。当suggest与but did not prove连在一起使用的时候,其意思不是建议,而是指一种基于主观臆测的推理,中文翻译成“暗示”。其英文释义为:to call to mind by though or association the explosion suggested sabotage。GRE、GMAT及LSAT文章中,常用suggest,but do not prove来描述一种没有真凭实据、可能有问题的理论,然后在后面的叙述中把它否定掉。
